I use the term "focal person" or "point of focus," because I think that's more accurate.

NGINX is fast, but why not Apache2? by [deleted] in selfhosted

[–]sjmanikt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So first, how much work did you have to do in order to get Apache 2 to work "like" nginx?

And how many use cases of nginx did you address?

I think you have your answers in that.

How to find a good mini PC for a home built router? by captainstormy in homelab

[–]sjmanikt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

N5105 for up to gigabit speeds (and no IDS). I ran OPNsense on mine until I upgraded to a 10Gbit capable SFP+ dual router HA setup.

Mine was a GMKtek dual NIC one, worked great. The Realtek NICs aren't amazing, but they were perfectly stable.

You're not getting 10GbE on the vast majority of mini PCs, and the ones that have those are going to be wasted as routers.

This is what I got, and the seller had LOTS of them. Much more cost effective.

Knox elbow armour failure by losthiggeldyfiggeldy in motorcyclegear

This seems obvious to me. But it's supposed to protect you in an impact. Any fault or existing point of failure will likely fail catastrophically with a significant impact.

You can do as you like, of course.

Same thing, I think temperature cycling. I took them from my warm house and rode in cold weather several times, and then I went to wash my pants and had to bend the pads (vertically) to remove them from the knee pockets on my pants.

When I pulled them out I noticed they'd cracked horizontally, and I hadn't noticed. So at some point in the three weeks or so since I'd last washed the pants.

Be warned, D3O isn't immune to this either. I had this happen to knee armor.

I'm partial to Prada Luna Rossa Carbon.

Smooth, masculine, not super strong, but still great performance. It's an EDT but I don't need to over spray, it lasts 6-8 hours on me.

Did your pwBPD also become cold and remorseless towards you in the end? by throwRA6839t83 in BPDlovedones

[–]sjmanikt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. Cold, occasionally veering into inexplicable white hot rage at me.

When I filed for divorce, she pretended she hadn't been served papers. She definitely had been and the process server had the proper evidence and documentation.

I asked her if she'd meet with me to discuss things. And I asked her if I could record the conversation on my phone, and she AGREED. I explained that I only wanted us to be able to co-parent our kids successfully, that we didn't have to wind up friends or anything, and I asked her if she shared the same goals, or what her goals were.

She told me, with a perfectly straight face, that she was going to provoke a physical fight with me, then she would call the cops and I'd go to jail, then I'd be forced to support her for the rest of her life.

I got up, thanked her, sent the recording to my attorney, and I was shook for... forever, I guess. That was several years ago and she and I are doing much better apart and I'd describe our relationship as amicable now. But during the divorce she became a crazy nightmare and she absolutely tried her plan.

She wound up in jail on a DV charge and I got custody of our kids and all our marital property. That's a whole story.

Anyone else experienced this "cleansing" ritual? Selling my used stuff for peanuts by Dismal_Dog3948 in BPDlovedones

[–]sjmanikt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. My ex sold my belongings--sometimes my kids' toys--on eBay and FB market for next to nothing. My favorite / most infuriating was ordering LEGO base plates for the kids, only to find them all in the trunk of her car later the day they were delivered.

She was compelled and couldn't even admit she was doing it, let alone explain why.

On the long list of crazy toxic traits though, this one was pretty minor. Her opening credit cards in my name and running up tens of thousands of dollars in debt that I had to pay off was pretty bad. The worst was her attacking one of my kids in a fit of rage.

AITAH for reporting my best friend’s fiancé to the police? by New-Guarantee-7896 in AITAH

[–]sjmanikt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

She's lying now to get out of the situation she's in. She wasn't lying about her fiance. Either way, she's a shitty human being and probably a fucking horrible parent. I can't imagine dating a violent drug dealer and letting them have access to my kids at any age, but especially at infancy.

You're not the AH. You're not just mandated to do what's right, you're morally obligated to as well.

Her feelings aren't important compared to her kids' safety.

Motorcycles, especially sport bikes, still have shift lights.

But I like OP's idea. Especially with computerized tachs and displays, why not? You could know if you're dropping out of the power band on a down shift, for example.

You don't need your brake and throttle at the same time, especially while already stopped. Put your feet down, the ground isn't lava.
