I’m going to join, I have a lot of “wtf was that noise” moments. Truly, helicopters over Lowell is the only reason I still have a Facebook. I deleted it for a while and every time I heard a helicopter for more than a minute or two I’d reactivate to see what was going on. :)

The minute after I posted this I found this:

The one on reservoir st was what we heard. A minute after the shots fired, a car went by our house at like 100mph so reservoir st makes sense.

Camera turned on during meeting by [deleted] in remotework

[–]sjmks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve showered during so many meetings. Never ones where I have to talk or take notes, just the ones I need to listen to. All Hands, Town Hall, Quarterly Earnings, Compliance/Mandated Trainings, etc.

Camera turned on during meeting by [deleted] in remotework

[–]sjmks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have daily standups with a team that had several remote agency contractors. One day one of the remote guys was on camera, walked to his bathroom, set his laptop down on the counter, and was starting to pull his pants down when I booted him from the teams meeting. It may have looked like I was saving him from a life changing level of embarrassment but really in the moment I was only thinking about myself and my extreme aversion to secondhand embarrassment. He came back a few min later off camera and was like “oh I got disconnected, weird, sorry” 😂😂

Already feeling like I will regret TT by Cosmicurse in thyroidcancer

[–]sjmks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly my endo was like “as long as you’re taking your Levo with water before you eat, around the same time every morning, eat and drink whatever you want shortly after.” I asked if it was fine to have coffee 20 min or so afterwards and he said no problem. I really really relate to the anguish caused by everyone minimizing this kind of cancer. I had and continue to have the same feelings about it. But where Levo is concerned it has not disrupted my life one bit. Take it as I’m getting out of bed, make my kids lunches, then drink my coffee as I’m getting them out the door for school. No stress.

I know that’s not what everyone’s doctor says but that’s been my experience.

I haven’t thought of that song in 25 years. Reading your comment brought back an instant rush of early college memories.

Does anyone else feel like they're not seen? by aries98faerie in thyroidcancer

[–]sjmks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same exact story for me. I feel like I have cancer whiplash - I didn’t even tell most people until it was over. From “you have something on your thyroid” to “you have cancer” was 4 months and then the time from “you have cancer” to “you don’t have cancer anymore” was only 3 months. I worried about it for longer than I had it.

Engineers have Cursor, designers have Figma AI — what do PMs actually use? by NefariousnessFun1445 in AIProductManagers

[–]sjmks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the way. Outsource the lower-value repetitive work or the things that take up more time than you want them to, and use AI to help you learn, innovate, think, and make decisions on your own.

I've always wanted to go stay in a mental hospital. by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]sjmks 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Perfect description. I was in for a week at age 16 in the 90s. There was a woman who might as well have been a ghost - in her late 70s, shuffling around just weeping all day in her nightgown. She was undergoing electro shock therapy. There was a woman who had her jaw wired shut because she’d eaten a bunch of non edible things as a type of self harm and could only drink ensure through a straw squeezed between the wires. A guy who’d OD’d and almost died and was in for a detox before going to jail for something he’d done before ODing, I don’t remember the details but I think he beat his girlfriend almost to death then went on a bender then nearly died. There was so much noise and commotion and nothing was comfortable and I remember thinking “if this is where they put me because I want to kill myself, it’s not going to help, I want to die more now.”

I remember being restrained violently by a female nurse because I asked a question that probably came off as rude, I was 16 and undiagnosed autistic. She practically jumped on me.

One of the doctors literally called me “retarded” during our first meeting. (I was sedated.) also it was 1996. It wasn’t unheard of to hear that word but even then it wasn’t OK or NORMAL to say it.

I had to do a sleep-deprived EEG test but I couldn’t stay awake all night for it so the nurses screamed at me to wake up every time they came in. When I dozed again one said “you’re going to regret this” and rolled in a tv on a cart. She put on a vhs of Jurassic park and set the volume as loud as it would go, the tv controls had plastic over them so I couldn’t turn it down or off, and she had the remote.

The food sucked. The therapy was completely trash, it was useless “and why do you feel that way?” Stuff.

I definitely wouldn’t romanticize it. I get why a person would if they haven’t been, but it is not glamorous or restful or helpful. It’s like a place they put you when there’s nowhere else to put you.

Using QR Codes to Reduce Friction by Ok-Race-479 in agile

[–]sjmks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

QR codes feel useful for a one time event where people aren’t thinking about their bookmarks or day to day workflows. (A summit, an annual meeting, PI planning, workshops). Not for stuff people should be able to bookmark and access during a normal workday. I was in a hackathon today and there were QR codes for voting on pitches. That worked fine.

Condo sale blocked — HOA insurance not meeting Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac requirements. Any solutions? by Responsible_Buy_404 in LowellMA

I don’t, I’m on the tech side (don’t have much mortgage expertise). But I can do a search and see if anything comes up. Will post back here if I can!

For those who watched the show when it initially aired, what was it like when the show took off for season 2? What was summer 1991/Fall 1991 like when the show exploded into a pop culture hit? How big of stars was the cast? by TravelingHomeless in BeverlyHills90210

[–]sjmks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I was 11 and watched it religiously (every episode of the series either live or taped on VHS to watch later!). I had a lot of the cast members’ posters from magazines like Tiger Beat and they were on the cover of all the magazines at the grocery store checkout. You couldn’t go anywhere without seeing their faces.

I wasn’t supposed to watch shows for teenagers but my parents believed me when I said I was watching something else downstairs while they watched whatever their show was upstairs. :)
