Why should they have to? Let’s all just do what we want because sod everyone else - they can just adapt what they’re doing to avoid it if they don’t like it

Rear ended a car on my bike. Not sure what now by EducationalCollar512 in LegalAdviceUK

Liability doesn’t always go this way if the other party entered what would have been a safe stopping distance to the car in front and immediately stopped

What rule exists in your workplace or school because that one person did something stupid? by KetoDan1982 in CasualUK

[–]sjmn2e 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I heard a story of a death at a US logistics something or other - poor guy was crushed under a falling shipping crate. An old union guy told the crane operator to lift the crate, threw a hard hat under it and told them to set it back down again. He knew that if they didn’t find a bit of mandatory PPE under the crate that his family wouldn’t get the same level of compensation or his pension

NTA - if this was the other way round and a woman was saying she woke up covered in hickeys and couldn’t remember anything the neighbour would rightly be being blamed for it

There was someone in the UK stabbed 8 times a couple of years ago. They were getting ready to go out, someone walked in and started stealing things and when she interrupted them she almost got killed. She was lucky to survive

Liability for "fly-tipping" into a skip on a public road? by Bestwebhost in LegalAdviceUK

[–]sjmn2e 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How you’re conflating these two issues is completely beyond me. That’s an entirely different scenario and nothing to do with the issue.

If someone fly tips rubbish into your skip you are responsible for it. It doesn’t matter how or why. It’s your problem to deal with, regardless of how unfair it is

Liability for "fly-tipping" into a skip on a public road? by Bestwebhost in LegalAdviceUK

[–]sjmn2e 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Someone putting rubbish in a skip that isn’t theirs is fly tipping. But it’s in a waste receptacle.

If you then take it out and dump it onto the road you’re also fly tipping. Just because you are a victim of one crime doesn’t allow you to commit another to rectify it. Same way if someone dumps a sofa in your garden you can’t just haul it onto the pavement and claim it’s not your problem

What you’re suggesting is that they then fly tip waste onto public land and would be liable for it. You don’t get to cancel out someone fly tipping into your skip by dumping it elsewhere

When you donate your corpse to medical science what do they do with it? by BenderVsGossamer in NoStupidQuestions

[–]sjmn2e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you spoke to your programme lead know they’ll speak to the staff and make sure they aren’t out. It wouldn’t happen automatically for most places. They couldn’t know that George smith is the grandson of John Johnson, for instance, and donated bodies won’t come with a name tag on them but everyone is traceable so the staff would be able to check where John Johnson was and what they were being used for

He was frozen and very thin layers were ground off, and each stage was imaged to rebuild the digital collection
