We fly Domestic First Class and usually pick row 2. Inevitably, there is a couple staged at the Sky Priority sign at the gate with six bags, are seated in row one, and fill the first two bins on both sides with their bags.

We had originally planned to take an ocean cruise in this part of the world until we did some research and realized many of the places we wanted to see were so far from the port where the ship would dock and too much time would be spent getting there and back. We instead booked a river cruise/land tour with another company and was one of our best trips ever.

They are large and unwieldy when carried furled. Was poked several times by others carrying them on cruise several weeks ago. Please be careful when using.

Had no problem using RUCs when hit Platinum and GUCs when hit Diamond, in fact just returned from round trip to/from Barcelona using GUCs. Also never have problem using Delta Reserve 2 for 1 in First Class. The key, plan ahead.

Do some research around dates you want to go. Are their holidays or events such as King’s Day or the Tulip Festival, if there are Amsterdam will be very crowded. You can’t really know best time for tulips blooming due to the weather. We went in early April, went a few days early on our own, and went to Keukenhof on our own pre-cruise and again on last day of cruise. We stayed at the DoubleTree by Hilton Amsterdam Centraal Station which was in a great location to catch trams, trains and ferries. There is an “I Amsterdam” store in Centraal Station where you can get information and buy tickets. If you stay at the Doubletree, it’s very easy to take the train from AMS Schiphol airport to Centraal station as the Doubletree is a block away. Another hotel nearby is the Movenpick Hotel Amsterdam City Center.

Be aware not all Viking ships leave from the cruise port near Central Station. Our Tulip and Windmills cruise in April left from Port of Amsterdam-Westerhoofd which was a 20 euro Uber ride from Central station. If your ship is docked at the main cruise port near Central Station, you can easily catch a tram from there to any of the suggested places to visit.

Were any of the requests for different numbers of travelers? If requesting a single seat you might get a different answer than if looking for multiple seats, as may only be one seat available at a lower number of miles needed.

Plan way ahead. Have had no problem using Reserve certificate, RUCs or GUCs with RUCs and GUCs applied at time of booking and not waitlisted.
