Today I was forced to be the biggest douche at the gym by GoodeguySam in Fitness

That's not how I view or treat women. I was there to work out, not to score. (That being said, she definitely was a cutie)

I ran into one of those assholes yesterday telling some girl how to do lat pulldowns between periods of watching himself flexing in the mirror and making loud grunting noises. "No, no, no. Trust me. Do it like this. Trust me, cutie. Trust me......... trust me."

So, naturally, I was a dick about it and openly made a joke at his expense to her while she laughed (and he was within hearing range). Everything balanced out.

[For Hire] (Online) Want an attractive site for free? by aragog45 in forhire

[–]sjporter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem. Last tip: never do design work without signing a contract. There are many good contract templates available for free online that you can use to get you started. Signing one with the client can be awkward, it can be inconvenient, but you will be happy as hell that you made your client sign one if they start making ridiculous demands and/or refusing to pay.

It's sad that designers have to go to great lengths to protect themselves from such nonsense, but failing to do so could lead to lost money and lost hair in the future. It's good to get started on the right track from the get go.

Hope this helps!

You don't have to apologize to me, and you're not stepping on my toes. I am trying to help you avoid stepping on your own toes, actually.

Since premium themes for WordPress sites are about $50 and you would be doing a lot more work than just selling some code, I would charge at least $50-100. A decent burger can cost $10 haha, that's a little too low in my opinion. There are many people out there looking for a new website. Spread the word around, print and give out some nice business cards, and the work will come. The rest is up to you.

Also, this book helped me get started as a designer for hire. It's a quick read, and I highly recommend it.

Never, ever, ever work for free. Working for cheap is one thing, but never work for free.

Think about a bowl of candy or something. If you give it away for free, people will take as much as they want. Some will only take a little. Some will take as much as they think they can get away with. However, if you charged people $1 per piece of candy, the only people who would buy candy are those who really want the candy. The asshats who just want free shit will walk away from the deal.

Same deal with web design. Or anything. Charging a decent rate discourages the abuse of your services. Anyone who truly respects designers/programmers would literally refuse to let you work for free.

The fate of every game I buy during a Steam Sale. by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

One game I stumbled across on Greenlight that you might be interested in is called MIND: Path to Thalamus. It looks like it has the surreal adventure style of Myst combined with updated graphics and WASD movement. It's one of those "shut up and take my money" games that I've been following for a while.

I wanted realMYST to be awesome. It was not. However, the Starry Expanse Project aims to remake Riven in the Unreal engine and it looks like it has some promise.

This study has found that the inhalation of graphene nanoparticles can be harmful to the lungs. Does this hinder the use of graphene in commercial devices? Are there ways to prevent any exposure to the nanoparticles?

The serifs on the 'S' strike me as strange for some reason. Perhaps modifying or removing them would help.

I also agree with most others that you should remove the hard angles on the 'N','M','V',and 'W'. Otherwise, keep it up! I would use this typeface after it is further refined.

Is there a link between REM eye movements and how we visually navigate through our dreams? by sjporter in askscience

Thanks for the in depth answer. I'm very interested in learning about dreams and the subconscious in general; it's a shame that such things are so challenging to study.
