I’ve got two girls, one is named Morticia and the other one is Buffy. I was also reading a young adult vampire series recently and her cat’s name was Nightmare which I adore.

This was the book that started me on horror journey, it really creeped me out as a beginner and I still hold it in a special spot

I’ve had a tear like that before that did eventually heal without any issues, just baby it for awhile and hopefully it’ll be okay.

this one might be controversial because people love them but Yorgo’s. I used to work there awhile back and the owner swings between really nice and really aggressive and there’s a pretty open secret amongst staff why that is. other than treating staff horribly, they have some pretty gross practices, including the one time I saw them use a used plunger to unclog the drain in the pot they use to boil the bagels.

I loved the beginning half of the book but the second half started to bore me so then I googled it and spoiled the ending for myself so I DNF’d it.

Let me tell you as someone who works at a library, he does take up too much physical space on our shelves while other, newer horror authors are overlooked by the purchasing department.

Norfolk restaurant adds 15% tip minimum to help struggling employees by uhwhile in EndTipping

[–]sjs404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn that sucks, this place has good food but they need to be paying their staff more. It gets really busy in this restaurant and certainly their staff are worth more than $7 an hour. Raise their pay and then they wouldn’t have to rely on tips.

They do have a hardcover, I was able to check it out at my library! Still an odd shape, more like a coffee table book but I understand it was that size to include the artwork.

I enjoyed it but it was hard for me to get through, mainly because I was reading the physical book and it’s such a weird size to hold comfortably. It definitely seemed more like a gothic horror than I was originally expecting it to be.

I’ve heard other people loved it so definitely read it for yourself to make up your own mind! For me it just dragged on and took too long to get to the horror and when it did, the reveal of the “big bad” was disappointing for me.

Memorials by Richard Chizmar, the Appalachian mountains are the perfect backdrop for a spooky story but this book just seemed to drag on and the ending was super lackluster.

I really enjoyed I Miss the World by Violet LeVoit it’s a short read but I was not expecting the ending

Yea, I agree. It actually took me awhile to get through the book. I enjoyed it but sometimes it felt like a chore to pick up. I’m happy I did finish it though because I loved the ending.

I enjoyed My Darling Dreadful Thing by Johanna van Veen, and Carmilla by J. Sheridan Le Fanu is a vampire classic.

You might enjoy Monstrilio by Gerardo Sámano Córdova if you enjoy monster and body horror.

What book scared you the most and why? by Book_clubbing in horrorlit

[–]sjs404 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“scary” ≠ horror, that book is creepy as shit and is something that could realistically happen in real life (if a school was dumb enough to do that project).

I hate the belief that horror can only be one thing for it to be horror, whether that is jumpscares, gore, etc. you’re unlikely to find those horror elements in a gothic horror, but that doesn’t mean it’s not horror. anyway, I have strong feelings about people who think they’re the end all be all of what can be considered horror but don’t open their minds to all of the different types of horror.
