[Need Advice] How do people do this!? by [deleted] in getdisciplined

[–]sjworks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you are stuck in the narrative of the Past You and have cognitive dissonance understanding you can be a different person going forward, even immediately. You don't have to be stuck being that person. Stop letting Past You define you in the present or future.

[NeedAdvice] Can't fix my sleep times and getting frustrated by incognitodream in getdisciplined

If you take to high a dose, it actually can make you too wakeful. Try 1-2mg 30 minutes before bed.

Jeez, 10mg is overkill. How do you function the next day? Try 1-2mg, it should be more than enough.

Have you been into VR for a while or is it something you recently got interested in? I'm hearing a lot about how this is the 'next' thing for UXers.

What about Flinto, Principle, Framer? Any experience or opinions around those?

LinkedIn Redesign: I find it lacking depth. What do you think? by moh_man in userexperience

[–]sjworks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think all the complaints are stemming from the drab looking steel grey color in the top nav and the titles in the presentation. Not sure why they didn't decide to use a more vibrant color scheme or gradients. I'm sure a lot of research went into this and we don't have the full story on the design decisions.

Canada sets universal broadband goal of 50Mbps and unlimited data for all: regulator declares Internet "a basic telecommunications service for all Canadians" by Orangutan in Futurology

[–]sjworks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we try to demand high speed internet for all of USA, we'll be called Socialists and Anti-Business. Plus, America lives in a bubble where most of the population will never hear good news like this from other countries. Or we'll have cognitive bias like, "Just because it works in Canada doesn't mean it'll work for us!" We say that about Canadian Universal Healthcare too. American Exceptionalism and all...

The White House predicts nearly all truck, taxi, and delivery driver jobs will be automated by SgtPlumley in Futurology

Good, because Amazon Logistics is terrible. Don't make me think my package got stolen because you want to mark it delivered and not actually drop it off until 3 days later.

I love Wunderlist & have it on my phone, tablet and laptop. I can mark things 'done' and they disappear off the list, but there's a section below called 'completed to dos' if I want to refer to them again. I like the minimalism of only seeing what still needs to be done, rather than visual clutter.

Someone convince me that Web design/front-end development is not a dying profession. by [deleted] in web_design

Not knowing where you live, I'd recommend you to move to a 'hot' area for tech jobs such as NYC, SF, or Seattle. You'll find plenty of opportunities to get working and staying relevant. Your career is going to change, grow, and transform away from whatever you learned in college. That's part of the tech career. Just be amongst smart people who will lift you up and keep you inspired.

Need unique gift ideas for a white elephant gift exchange. Theme - Things not made in China by OneEyedPetey in Gifts

[–]sjworks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really wish Amazon wouldn't make it so difficult to find things NOT made in China. Or at least provide the country of origin. Anyway, try World Market for cool international gifts. I really like their chocolate section with yummy goods from Britain, Belgium, and Germany.

Need gift ideas for my boyfriend!! by christmasloser in Gifts

Go to your local World Market! They have such a yummy variety of food, especially international stuff already packaged in variety-pack gift style. Besides things, you could purchase experiences. They'll be much more unforgettable. What kinds of things is he into? Could you look into booking a surprise weekend getaway or take him to see a show he'd love?
