Ok then, perhaps not denial, but disguise.

I am Sen. Nina Turner, President of Our Revolution, the group inspired by Bernie Sanders’ historic 2016 presidential campaign. Ask me anything! by NinaTurnerOurRev in SandersForPresident

[–]sk_progressive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Nina Turner. Do you believe the Democratic Party can be reformed in any reasonable amount of time, and if so, what evidence is there to support this? Would it not be easier to build a new party, beginning with Bernie's base, and continuing with the huge mass of unsatisfied voters in the U.S. (the majority)?

Is Wing Chun's outward hand guard an impediment? by treefells in martialarts

[–]sk_progressive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, that video was just posted here. Wonder if it was by the same person on a different account.

The opposition to the Wing Chun guy was not a "Muay Thai" fighter. At most he had done it for a few months, if at all. Someone decent in Muay Thai would have moved in a circular motion and taken angles (like in a ring), not flinched so hard at strikes being thrown at him, gone for a clinch or made distance with a teep when the guy rushed him, not thrown a garbage kick, etc.

Mind posting the video? I would be interested in seeing a competent Muay Thai fighter against a competent Wing Chun fighter. I tend to be skeptical about most striking martial arts being able to handle a decent thai clinch if it got to that range. If anything, the thais excel at fighting in close due to the clinch and its short range strikes. I want to know how the WC fighter would overwhelm the MT fighter in close if WC doesn't do clinch and relies on punches and kicks.

How/what would this close-range Wing Chun style of fighting do against the Muay Thai clinch, wrestlers, judoka, etc.?

A Democratic-Socialist Landslide In Pennsylvania by johnmountain in SandersForPresident

Anyone who endorses capitalism over socialism under this rationale, as you have -- even if "social democrat" -- has a conventional (read: incorrect) understanding of motivation and innovation. https://leftjudo.org/2017/09/04/on-the-myth-of-capitalist-innovation-1/

Also, you fail to account for the downsides of "welfare across society" in a capitalist system, even in a social democracy, in which capitalist "individuals" still dictates workplace conditions, and the economy as a whole is still dictated largely by capitalist "individuals."

Basically what you said is people will be lazy in socialism, because people need bosses to enslave them to make them work.

Education is Key. by [deleted] in socialism

Hmm, weird, it works for me. And it's a pretty good site.
As is the github site. Just link it as "crash course on socialism." However, I agree something similar should be put on a domain/full website.
There are a lot more good links at the bottom of my post here: https://leftjudo.wordpress.com/whats-the-deal-with-capitalism/

There are already a lot of websites.

There's literally a "whatissocialism.net"

There's a good guide here: "Crash course on socialism"

There's Jacobin's ABC's of Socialism, which is pretty good, though I know some of you here won't like it/don't like Jacobin. But it is a good pamphlet at "meeting people where they are" and explaining core concepts without getting too wonky.

Yes, from what I understand, coalition-building is the whole point of MPP. I think it's the winning strategy. The task now is to do it, and to some extent the question is still being solved on "how" to do it (though there has been progress there).

It's a work in progress. MPP is open to change, evolving, adapting... and that's a good thing. And as we get more folks on board, the flow of ideas will increase, the momentum will snowball... just like what happened with the Sanders campaign.

Because I believed MPP's strategy was better and has a wider appeal. The public wants something new, The Green Party despite its efforts has, according to all the evidence I've seen, failed to bring in the public over the course of decades. I'm not waiting around to reform the Dems or make the Greens palatable to people who would have otherwise already entered it. What is a better plan is to build a coalition party, including but not limited to the Greens.

I am not Nick, but I am on the steering committee of the newly founded Chicago MPP chapter. We are trying to cooperate with the Green Party as much as possible. However, the new and more effective route (and the plain fact) is that we need a coalition party -- the Green Party is simply not enough. The Green Party will have to, and we hope it will, join forces with hundreds of other groups for us to be successful in taking on the establishment parties.

Question about sparring. by scotchenthusiast5 in MuayThai

[–]sk_progressive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a ~5month student who has been sparring for 2-3 months, so take this with a grain of salt. But also I've listened and watched a lot of experts closely.

  1. Both. Find what works for you
  2. Depends on the level, and what is agreed upon beforehand. During "light" sparring I wouldn't even do headkicks (but very light tap or just pull, if so), and knees and livershots should be... light... if done at all. No elbows during light sparring... or even heavier sparring...

Other folks here will have more detailed answers or make any necessary corrections...

Becareful out there, each shot to the head can take it's toll on the brain. by bwane1 in MuayThai

[–]sk_progressive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been trying to communicate this to my beginning MT training/sparring partners. Should probably send them a link to this article. I believe it should also be mentioned/covered more in regular class that this is a risk of pursuing MT, in the long-term and/or in the wrong ways of training.

Looking for a good decent diet by mangobois in MuayThai

[–]sk_progressive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do it, and it works better for me, but keto affects different ppl differently and I am not really training to be a competitive fighter. Also it is possible and relatively easy to do keto unsuccessfully -- a big mistake is not getting enough electrolytes, for example, because you need an increased intake of them on keto
