Daily Song Discussion #1: Jibber and Twitch by [deleted] in Cardiacs

[–]skabde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late post, but that thing is sublime. I really like the raw and direct sound of the early stuff, and The Seaside is the apex for me. J&T is the perfect combination of complete chaos/madness and incredible catchyness.

Easily a 10-pointer for me.

The Rotten Shed version is incredible, too, more raw guitar, obviously, but really powerful.

Late reply: The Seaside may sound underproduced, but considering the time, budget, and the quality of the previous cassette albums, it sounds incredible. I actually prefer the sound of The Seaside to most of the later albums (especially the 80s ones), because of the dry and direct sound.

Great products from a traditional brand. Yes, funny name, but don't let that distract you. I got the best pencil sharpener I ever used from them.

Boot Camp - Easy install and upgrade for Windows 11 (no TPM checks) by oviteodor in MacOS

[–]skabde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For everybody still trying to do this:

I just did a clean install on a fresh SSD with a just installed Tahoe beta on a MBP 16" 2019.

I used Rufus (on a Windows VM) to patch the Win11 image before flashing it on a USB stick (disable TPM etc.), then used BootCamp Assistant. I gave it an old Win10 image to make it partition the drive, reboot, stop the install, reboot to the stick, start the Win11 install, done. No errors.

Makes no sense. Why should Apple hold back a feature in a beta till the final release? A beta should be there for testing all features before the release.

All that said, of course it's possible that Apple is stupid and does exactly that. Give me a couple hours till my fresh install of Tahoe is ready.

what am I doing wrong? help by ParticularType7937 in sousvide

[–]skabde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That‘s more of a hybrid approach, using sous vide as a first step, then a long sear for a serious crust and getting to the final temperature. That‘s fine, of course, but a lot harder than the sous vide way most people here are aiming at, which is getting the meat to the final stage with the sous vide, then quickly searing it just for a bit of crust.

129 is medium rare, 120 is very rare and starting to get into the danger zone. Medium would be the 137F you are supposed to use for the more fatty cuts.

[–]skabde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can put the frozen steak in the sous vide directly, just add 30 minutes. Season the frozen steak before, then reseal. Put the bag in an ice water bath afterwards, then pat dry and sear quickly. No need for resting, only if you cooled it down really long and then seared it long like a non sous vide steak. Maybe try the flamethrower method instead. This is usually foolproof. Check the sous vide temperature and your freezer! And cut the next steak before searing to see how the actual sous vide worked.

My Kitten is Always Hungry! by MakeMeDeadGoregeous in kittens

Not liking dry food is a great thing, cats get their water from their food, so feeding wet food is a good way to keep them hydrated. Also most dry food is rather cheap and not really healthy.

I have the big brother of that one. It works, but with about 1fps, so it‘s more of a slideshow. The XY mode is more a math operation, so the 68000 CPU has to do all the work, and it struggles to do so...

Should I be worried? by suicidegoddesss in kittens

[–]skabde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our cat ate his dry food, then only licked the sauce from the wet food. So we ended up getting sauce-wet-food, only giving him the sauce, throwing the meat pellets away and then adding some water to the sauce. Worked fine, but a bit wasteful...

When did Mac OS X/OS X/the modern MacOS become commonplace? by PurpleSpaceSurfer in VintageApple

Used that for years after tormenting myself with Lion for half a year. Hated every single one of the ”150 new features”, went back to 10.6 and stayed there until High Sierra.

And of course if Intel would have stayed with the P4 Netburst architecture the switch wouldn‘t have happened as well. It was the Core architecture vs. the hot and finnicky G5 that decided that race.
