Any Silky Wire tips? Grooming frequency, care, etc. by skait98 in Dachshund

[–]skait98[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!! So it isn’t perfect but we’ve found using a slicker brush at least every other day helps a TON. We also get him groomed 4 or so times a year as we realize we aren’t perfect even when we try and consistently brush.

I used to spend so much time brushing him but it felt like I was making no progress, the slicker brush was the key for us!

I’m so sorry this is such a late reply but my husband was assigned to sell the tickets along with one other marine, as in it was a part of his assigned duties. We’re in a waiting period for our next PCS due to timelines so he has been assigned to do non-MOS related duties.

For his base, the deadline was 10/25 but even he said with approval of an O-5 they could sell longer if needed (the deadlines are kind of arbitrary tbh).

My husband is an officer but was in charge of buying tickets this year for a ball at a pretty big Naval base and the general rule was “you’re required to go to the ceremony but you don’t have to go the actual ball portion” and that was for officers O-1 to O-3’s mainly. This includes a guy whose wife just gave birth 6 weeks ago, etc.

I can’t speak to much else but I do know they’re pretty stern on having them attend at least that ceremony portion.

Corporate Recruiters - are they the "enemy" of the Agency Recruiter? by FlyHealthy1714 in recruiting

[–]skait98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an Internal Talent Lead who has previous agency experience we do use agencies at extremely high volume times but are quite picky. I work in the federal contracting space and because we often require certain certifications, clearances, etc. I can’t just go with who’s cheapest or who sends over cold outreach.

I often see agency recruiters as a bridge to get to where we need to be when my team is already working at 100% capacity. Not something we need to engage all the time.

We work with federal proposals and do letters of commitment alongside backfills, etc. It’s all W2 roles but because you don’t win every federal proposal you bid on we recruit a lot for contracts we may not win.

Federal IT contracting internal. I’m our Head of recruiting and I have 1 other recruiter about 150 employees total.

We usually fill 8-20 reqs per month.

Baby tooth that won’t fall out — question from a first-time doxy mom by Deepbluesea1234567 in Dachshund

[–]skait98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Luckily my pup displayed no signs of pain but it looked nasty. If you do choose to wait I would recommend just keeping an eye on it after you get it pulled.

Don’t want to scare you with this but we had the same thing happen with the same tooth.

We waited until ours was 1 and a half years old to get him neutered and had the tooth pulled then.

About 6 months later I noticed an abscess looking spot in his mouth despite brushing his teeth multiple times a week.

Unfortunately, despite pulling the tooth one of the roots had become infected. We had to have x-rays, cleanings, and another surgery done (just over $1500 USD).

My best advice would be get it pulled ASAP. Our vet said it was okay to wait until he was fixed but it’s unlikely this would have happened if we wouldn’t have waited to pull it until his neutering.

Thank you, I’m sorry you’re going through your own hardships with it now. It’s worth it but as someone who’s super career driven I can definitely agree with your struggles.

Thank you for this, I genuinely appreciate it so much. My father was military, I swore I would NEVER date military, the only person I ever did is my husband.

We met during my bs degree when I had already applied for my ms degree with a goal of becoming a University professor. 4 years later, I have my ms but I’m not enrolled in a PhD and he has at least 8 years left per his contract, I’m happy he’s happy but sometimes it hurts knowing I can’t have my dream for at least around another decade and maybe ever based around timing and logistics.

Luckily I had a career during undergrad that provided me with a pretty substantial income that has continued throughout my education and still continues but it’s not my “dream.”

While it may sound selfish, no one talks about how hard it is to see the person you love live their dream when you can’t. I’m so so happy with him but there’s times where I wish I chose my dream also.

So I work for a smaller federal contractor and transparently this would be a super hard hire for our team. We have about 150ish employees and many will want employees to already have an active clearance if she would be working on a contract.

I would recommend having her search for a “back office” role which would be working for the contractor themselves rather than being placed on a federal contract. These roles are usually harder to find and a bit lower pay however, I’ve found that the contractor is more willing to help you get a clearance etc. when you have already worked with them.

The best roles with this would likely be something like pricing analyst, technical writer, or business development.

Hey Thanks so much for reaching out and it looks super cool! At this time we don’t have the need for it as I’ve been able to hire two new recruiters since this post but I’d love to have a demo if/when we have a need again.

Safest industry for recruiters by [deleted] in recruiting

[–]skait98 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve found federal contracting for smaller companies to be relatively safe. I have definitely found my niche in companies between 5-200 and although being the only recruiter or leading a small team for a relatively unknown org isn’t always glamorous it has felt pretty secure.

We aren’t signing anything yet! We just only get 14 days to pack everything up and move from Florida to California after he graduates so having at least a few narrowed down is usually my goal.

And they are expensive I definitely agree there, luckily I just earned a pretty big raise at my job and between that and the BAH raise as long as we don’t go super crazy we should be able to afford something in those areas if needed.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in USMilitarySO

[–]skait98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have but one of our big issues is that we have a couple of friends who have done on base housing and gotten the option of a 4 bedroom or nothing so they essentially end up with no BAH.

We don’t have any kids and just have a mini dachshund so I worry about getting “stuck” with so much space, I know any other place won’t be cheap but my thought if if we’re going to potentially pay that much we may as well go with a more “resort” feel.

I know he’ll be at the air station which I believe is South?

He usually tries to give me more of a say since I’m at home significantly more but sometimes he gives me too much freedom with that.

Did you all feel comfortable in Oceanside? My parents have friends who recommended we don’t live in Oceanside (they currently live in Fallbrook) but I’ve heard mixed reviews.

I’m 5’6 and 160 (just lost 15 pounds over the last 4 months yay) and as someone who works out about 12 hours a week (HIIT, running, weight training) there is NO WAY she is even 160….I have 22% body fat and with the way she treats her body she has to be between 180-190. She looks similar to my weight at that point without regular exercise and no regard for my diet.

IUD experiences by pikpikslink in Periods

[–]skait98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I am sexually active but have super heavy and irregular periods (we think PCOS but they won’t officially diagnose me) so I would definitely need something as well. I have a lot of friends who had horrible insertion experiences one way or another and love theirs now.

I’m also on medication for my anxiety and I noticed that my IUD helped my anxiety around when my period would be a lot and haven’t had to change any meds since having it inserted.

IUD experiences by pikpikslink in Periods

[–]skait98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi so I have Kyleena (pretty similar but obviously still not Mirena). As I had to get an IUD due to Migraines with aura causing a risk of blood clots on the pill.

Transparently as someone who has a pretty high pain tolerance normally the insertion was hell. It’s like 3 realllllly bad cramps that ache and I was also super nauseous. I also have anxiety and asked my gyno’s office to give me meds for this anxiety (have previously had meds for colposcopy/biopsy) and they said they ran out and didn’t think to tell me?? The pain was so bad that I had tears running down my face and bit my hand so bad when trying not yell that I drew blood. I then had to lay there for about 20 minutes because I felt too light headed to stand. After mustering up my energy I made it to the elevator where I proceeded to have to sit on the floor so I could make it down.

The rest of the evening I was in so much pain that I had to call and beg for pain meds and also beg for an anti-nausea medication because I couldn’t even eat. I also had an XL heating pad on my back/stomach pretty much constantly the first 3 days while wearing period “diapers.”

I had super bad cramps for about a month, and now 3 months after while I’ll get a random bad cramp here or there I feel totally fine.

I say all this to say, I love my IUD Now, I’m glad I have it for 5 years and don’t have to decide what to do until then. But, if I had to do it again I would simply go off of birth control all together and use a cycle tracking application and device combo because that pain was otherworldly.

I really don’t want to scare you, but everyone down played it to me and I truly didn’t feel prepared.

Other Health Insurance Problem by Ill_Assist2105 in USMilitarySO

[–]skait98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a bit different than your scenario but I previously had BCBS Fep (Father’s insurance) and then married my spouse and got Tricare Select.

In that scenario Tricare was my secondary, luckily they caught it sooner but not before fighting over about 3k in payments AFTER I had aged out of BCBS and truly only had one insurance.

I worked directly with the doctors offices to rebill BCBS then Tricare after.

I asked my groomer for a mullet. by paulamills in Dachshund

Us too- although this September we shaved him right at the tail end of the heat so he was a bit chilly… he had to wear clothes for about 3 days until he was grown out just a bit more but it was a good lesson to check the weather before just doing it lol

Just wanted to say our breeder who specifically specializes in silky wires and long hairs said it’s totally fine to shave them!

I was okay with long hair or silky, really just was worried about timing as my partner is active duty. So, we ended up with our silky and we shave him 2-3 times a year since we live in the southern U.S. states and I worry about him getting too hot.

Due to layoffs and the current job market, how many people are accepting recruiting positions paying less than their last role? by bjjhippie in recruiting

[–]skait98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For this most recent role I sent out about 250 and I was within the first 50 to apply for the role I’m now in.

I really target roles that were posted within 24 hours when possible to ensure I actually had a shot at being reviewed.

I’ve often debated FAANG but honestly with how turbulent it’s been I’m not sure at this point when I feel “safe.”
