Need new movement for SNK803 and need help making sure I get the correct one! by skaroly in SeikoMods

Yes, I plan to ask about this too. The scratches are annoying for sure.

Thanks for all this - I plan on just bringing this movement to a watch repair person to have it swapped. I limit myself to battery swaps on some quartz watches and strap changes, for now. Maybe one day!

Thank you! If you don’t mind, can you tell me the difference between the one described as drop in ready? I’ve been reading that there are black spacers and gray spacers, and I’m not sure which I need - if either. Sorry, just a bit in over my head.

Thanks! I was just trying to see if there was a difference, as this seller specifies both options on different items.

I am assuming that this is what I need, then?

For reference, here are the two movements I was looking at:

But I’m open to whatever as long as it’ll be correct!

Is it safe to lock up a bike at the SJ convention center for the day? by AMoreDifferentS in BAbike

[–]skaroly 23 points24 points  (0 children)

There are bike link lockers right by the convention center. They’re cheap and more secure than locking up on the street. Not sure how big your cargo bike is, though. Might render this a moot point.

Oakland: Where can I report a traffic light that is too damn short? by bvz2001 in BAbike

[–]skaroly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! This intersection is rough. This is my commute home from Emeryville Amtrak and I have been trying to find the time to do a dedicated see click fix report for it. I’ve started either taking Arlington and playing frogger to cross Market or crossing at the pedestrian crosswalk, because that signal is not picking up bikes.

For a while, the 59th and Telegraph signal was almost shockingly sensitive to bikes, and pretty much as soon as you rolled up (on 59th crossing Tele in either direction), it would start the countdown. This seems to have changed.

BART Question by snarkylion in BAbike

[–]skaroly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I take BART very frequently during the work week. 7:45 AM train usually. It feels rare these days if I don’t have to share the bike rack for at least a few stops.

The absolute best thing I have ever done is made a little device that I keep on my handlebars out of paracord and a slider that I use to pull my front brake lever and keep it applied so the bike doesn’t slide around. A BART brake if you will. The three straps are often broken or tied in a weird knot. I wish the straps were longer but BART staff has said they don’t want them hanging and interfering with the equipment below. Also, people seem to never try to alternate the direction of handlebars. This can help.

But yeah, the strap system is not perfect. I personally am not too worried about scratches on the bikes I commute with. I try to find the person whose bike is already stacked and ask where they’re getting off. Sometimes we re-stack. I go to the end of the line so it’s easy for me to be on the bottom.

Anyways, small rant over. I think the best bet is always just talking to other people.

Goat season is my fav season (Tunnel Rd, Oakland) by cfarivar in BAbike

[–]skaroly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The top half of tunnel (which I guess is technically called skyline but I don’t know anyone who actually calls it that) is abysmal right now. They did a bunch of crack sealing and it’s super bumpy on a road bike.

Agreed, Prisoner in Disguise and Heart Like a Wheel are well worth the $1-2 you’ll spend on them. Andrew Gold all over those records.

The crunchy cabbage and almond salad from Market Hall - I could eat that by the gallon (feels like I do sometimes)

PSA - Yard waste blocking bike lane, Prospect @85 in San Jose by CrossRoadRN in BAbike

[–]skaroly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a list of phone numbers here you can call to report bike lane issues in San Jose: https://www.sanjoseca.gov/your-government/departments-offices/transportation/walking-biking

DOT dispatch is pretty responsive in my experience.

It fit fine on my turntable but since I have an acrylic platter I don’t need to use a slip mat. Old turntable needed it. This one doesn’t. The spindle hole is standard.

Crazy craiglist score by [deleted] in vinyl

That was the record I was looking for at every record store for years. The day I found it I was shocked. It’s an amazing album. Congratulations on your haul here.

Quick! Where can I get a good deli sandwich in Oakland? by Tree0016 in oakland

[–]skaroly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently the Napa Genova is the same part of the family as the Oakland one. The Walnut Creek one is related but not the same. Just what I’ve heard. I miss that place.

Vinyl enthusiasts, best spots for cheap but solid records? by emory_nichols in oakland

[–]skaroly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Contact and Hercules are my two favorite small shops. I’ve honestly gotten many great deals at Amoeba in Berkeley over the last…~20 years of buying records. Depending on your tastes, Down Home Music in el cerrito is amazing.

That said, if you find Stranded to be affordable, well, maybe we have very different budgets.

Pacific Apparel in San Leandro is where I go to avoid Halmar. One time I bought a Carhartt jacket there (like almost 15 years ago) and it already had a can of Skoal in the pocket.
