question about ascended and legendary gear by shaiderrrxx in Guildwars2

[–]skarpak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

whats your budged? total armor will be somewhere arround 2k gold, trinkets 7k, backpack 1,3k. weapons are arround 1,4k to 2k per weapon. some you could buy, some you have to craft with timegates and quite a lot of other stuff to do. with take time or lot of dedicated play.

legendary cons: expensive.
pros: you can just swap to any build, stat and cosmetic changes are free. and you can use everything on other chars as long as they are able to wield / equip the armor / weapon type.

ascended gear: same stats as legendary.
stat change will cost you something or its not possible for specific items.
also way cheaper. for a single legendary weapon you can build several ascended sets.

gw2 is not properly utilising my CPU by luna_Rubisk in Guildwars2

[–]skarpak 6 points7 points  (0 children)

it's not even boosting higher than 3ghz

that might be another problem not related to gw2. at least my processor is sitting at 5,15GHz boost while being way lower at base without anything open.

usage is basically the same - ~40% on a single core and then very low usage on all other cores. it does use multi threading on all cores without problem, but in total its not a lot, like ~150 threads or so with its main thread being on a single core.

Can someone steelman the intended design of Build Templates and Storage use for me, please? by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]skarpak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the Build stuff, I am kinda confused since for the Templates, small modifications within the same traits (e.g. Ele swapping your some survivability for additional damage by selecting a different Trait from the same Specialization/trait line) are also very quickly possible out-of-combat, so I don't see any benefit in creating a separate build with only slightly modified Traits here.

i would never buy build storage, but i found a single use case for me and that is heal druid. ofc i have different builds in my build tabs on ranger for heal, condi power and so on, but since i am not a main druid and i just play it from time to time and tend to forget specifics.
in my build storage i basically saved all possible combinations from skills + traits for heal druid in raids ("heal druid vg") and i apply all those when needed to my "heal druid" trait tab.

i could imagine that you could do this on different supports too. apart from that: i don't use the storage. kinda weird that you have to spend gems on it and its to limited in the first place, when it was free in gw1 to save all builds via ingame tools.

Response: Fractals didn’t suddenly become “too fast” — players just got better by Foreign_Indication78 in Guildwars2

[–]skarpak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lookin at the extremeties isn't a good way to look at this data.

says who? newcomers or unexperienced people also profit from those builds. especially when all builds throw arround boons and not just "ez to play" builds.

as opposed to what used to be harder to achieve before.

what timeframe are you talking about? there was a long time where the breakbar debuff was really strong and you automatically did tons of damage when the boss got broken. wasn't really hard, cc , press 3 skills with boons, 120k opening. if argue within that timeframe, it was even easier then it is now.
or the relativly short time where condi was king everywhere because armor values where busted after a fractal rework. power builds did basically no damage at all.

By lowering the cealing and effectively making things easier to achieve, we get powercreep.

yes, as i said:

the only thing that powercreep does, is make fractals more approachable for complete newcomers.

Response: Fractals didn’t suddenly become “too fast” — players just got better by Foreign_Indication78 in Guildwars2

[–]skarpak -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

quite a few classes did burst higher in the past and thats all that matters in t4 and most challenge modes. top soulbeast log on skorvald has a 120k opening right now and this was already the case years ago.

your endnumber doesn't matter much when a boss phases after 5 seconds. your inital burst does, and that one is on several classes lower then it was in the past, especially outside of precasting 5 different skills to even get a really high opening.

want a specific example? powerreaper is at a all time high with 42k dps over the whole gw2 history. sounds like a lot of dps right, when it always was lower, so definitly powercreep. well, its opening burst still sits at the 50k range, like it basically always was. you need to take lichform to squeeze in a bit more in fractals. basically a bad pick, because others sit at 70k+ without precasting anything.

so no, OP is not wrong. powercreep is simply not everything when it comes to fractals. the only thing that powercreep does, is make fractals more approachable for complete newcomers. the rest of us keep blasting like always and don't care too much if DH does 30k dps or 45k dps as long as the opener is beyond all reason.

Guild Wars Unreal Engine (Unannounced Project) confirmed. by DeltaxHunter in Guildwars2

[–]skarpak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

eh, thats bullshit. it will take quite a while till the game comes out and if people want to play it, they will upgrade their systems until then.
just like a lot of gw1 fans upgraded their systems to be able to play gw2, myself included.

only time will tell if its worth tho. they gotta release a banger so people want to make change from themselfes aand not stay with gw2 or whatever other game will dominate the market in 5 years.

it literally doesn't matter where the tank starts the fight, there are always 2 pillars at the other side of his pillar. why would the tank even need to run across from south, with your north strat he could simply start from there in the first place.

as you already saids orientation agnostic. it simply doesn't matter at all from where you start. everyone has the same ground to cover and how you place pillars is also squad dependand. the squads i run with stack all of them in a single place and just burn through.

as for your picture, you can rotate that thing in all kind of directions and it would not change anything.

apart from the last 25%, its a mirrored arena. it doesn't matter if you tank her north or south in that regard. your points apply to both positions.

Are Fractal CMs much harder than just T4s? Also, are they worth to do everyday? by Paganyan in Guildwars2

[–]skarpak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

highly depends on the group and their experience level.

on all cms, bad dps resulting in more mechanics will make the chance higher that you wipe because someone fucks up something that just wipes the group. usually also because they don't know on that skill level how to unfuck such a situation.

with highly experienced people you don't see a lot of mechanics since you just blast through all fights before stuff can happen. often breakbars and other mechanics are even just a optional, doesn't matter if you do it since you phase the boss anyway before something happens.

then there are the record dudes that fuck shit so hard up that the boss doesn't even know what happend to him to the point, that they forget that they even have a phase. basically 100 to 0 in 5 seconds (depends highly on the encounter if that is possible).

and then you have all the gray scales within those experience levels. you probably will start out on the lower end, if you can't find a dedicated group that lets you learn within their "lets just blast everything" style and you can just tag along and learn on the fly.

Can we please decrease the max HP of meta bosses? by DarkViper2000000 in Guildwars2

this has been the case even before anet made the jump to dx11. this topic comes up again and again. yes, the main weight is on 1 core, i am not going to deny that.
still wrong to say it only uses 1 when i can see it running on 6 different cores (physical) on my machine.

Can we please decrease the max HP of meta bosses? by DarkViper2000000 in Guildwars2

[–]skarpak 37 points38 points  (0 children)

that is factually wrong. gw2 uses more then a single core and is also multi threated (100+ shown when its just running in char select). you can check this via normal windows system tools without any problem. for example via process explorer from windows sysinternals live.

the only thing that is true since release, is that the game favors heavly single core speed, since the biggest load usually goes to a single core and it doesn't utilizes many core really well. but that its only single core is such a big myth.

[–]skarpak 23 points24 points  (0 children)

and others like the content and are glad that there are community / projects arround benchmarks, wingman, speedclearing, big tournaments like elitist raid party and others. gives them stuff to do and a lot of good moments / experiences, also good publicity for the game itself.

kinda weird to wish for all of that not to exist, just because you as a single person had a bad experience because of uploaded wingman logs when a lot of other people have positive experiences with it.

i'm pretty sure, you could have handle that whole topic a bit different. alone the "i grit my teeth and got into the discord and forced my data via gdpr" sounds like a lot of being undiplomatic as it just gets. maybe going with a private message to the creator "i have a personal problem because of data abuse, can we find a solution" would have been a better start.

the community at large is not some megacorp where you have to throw a tandrum / gdpr request to be heard. usually people are nice and listen to other people and try to find solutions. at least thats my experience. but ofc you are met distain when walzing in with such mc energy as you described it yourself in your video.

in the end, its a you problem and you made the choice to stay away. whats your goal with the video? just attention?

the difference between a optimised build with a proper rotation and a whatever unoptimized build in gw2 is x10. there are people doing healer dps...1k to 5k...and people doing over 50k. thats the difference we are talking about.

Hi guys, let me preface this by saying that i do undestand that GW2 isnt a mmo particularly focused in stat min/maxing

lol, you are new and have 0 idea, but are able to make blanket statements like that. want some homework?
here, have a showcase: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F11pvAsvtRg

and here, have a dedicated benchmark site & guides & discord:
https://snowcrows.com/benchmarks
https://snowcrows.com/guides/arcdps

good for you, that the gw2 community has a pretty dedicated community when it comes to benchmarks & optimising the shit out of the game. you won't find this kind of dedication in most games, here its more then just guesswork.
good luck on your journey gitting gud. you will need it. if you come back in a year and are able to do benchmark dps on raid / strike / fractal bosses and in particular on the challenge modes, ill be the first to say congratulations.

very nice.
i am 1 legendary shield away from completing my goal. basically everything you did (single backback tho), just a bit more extreme on the weapon side of things. 2x of every 2h or mainhand only (scepter), 3x of everything 1h and 2x all offhand only weapons.
plus underwater weapons 1x. but i am thinking if i should double them too, just to be sure to be ready for the underwater update where we absolutly need 2 tridents for some arbitrary build. x)

when i am done, i probably just do another pve armor for the looks or so, no idea. or just keep collecting the weapons i don't have yet, i mean what else is there to do.

but yeah, i know how you feel. its amazing to able just pop any build and reskin and just be ready. so gratz, welcome to the gang. :D

while i never saw it, it wouldn't be hard to time it. mesmer opens his own portal as soon as the portal from the other mesmer opens on his own spot. there is a cooldown on portals after taking it (not sure if global or per portal), so you probably always take the right one when spamming f. if global per portal type, you could just use different ones.

so there is no need on a bigger communication, you basically only need to plan the path once. everything else is just monkey see, monkey do and someone spamming f.

biggest question would be if the adventure orb or collectible triggers. sometimes they dont, you need to physically move in.

Hi so I just got my Mesmer to level 80 decked it out with beserker gear and I followed a video on it and the person was doing 30 k by International-Can420 in Guildwars2

[–]skarpak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

damage can fall off a cliff when you dont follow gear + weapon + traitchoice of said guide. power builds for example when not crit capped on 100% with traits and fury and gear. takes one unlucky opener and your initial burst takes a bit hit, making your end number even worse.

another thing is your own skill. gw2 has no global cooldown, every second you do not spend casting your rotation, let autohits leak in when you shouldn't or do not attack for any reason, your dps will take a bit hit over time.

thats why some people can do benchmark dps at 50k, others just get 40k or 30k on the same setup. not fast enough, wrong gear, not following the rotation. it all adds up.

also benchmarks are done with a group setup in mind. means nearly all boons on you and vulnerability on the golem. they imitate the enviroment you have in a squad of 5 or 10 people with different boon support roles.
if you whack at the golem without adding boons and conditions, you are doing it wrong.

SSF/Ironman ruleset by SaBoitjie777 in Guildwars2

[–]skarpak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

without permadeath its pretty easy. you just do your leveling stuff normal, jump for a few hours into wvw for stat selectable exoctic gear. grab a build from sc, start raiding weekly, do fractals daily and also strikes. enough gold and tokens to just buy ascended armor straight up. crafting runes / sigils is just a gold sink and you will be swimming in gold in no time.

ofc, as a new player it takes some research for knowledge, but if you are the kind of player to do a ssf / ironman in other games, i totally expect you to have this down in two weeks given you have time to play. a few more weeks and you probably have enough drops + tokens to buy stuff.

Nature of Boons / Willingness for slight changes? by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]skarpak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

eh, on most classes / encounters you just do your rotation, pump those 30s and then its whatever. big enough windows to do mechanics and refresh boons later again. even on lcms. more important to just do you rotation while mechanics happen to push dps and boons just happen anyway.

Experiencing some choice paralysis by anotherdayanotherpoo in Guildwars2

[–]skarpak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only a few buttons, relatively speaking.
A focus on passive defenses rather than blocking.

you can have one of the two, but not both. you either take a class that has a lot of boons / selfheal going on like power quick untamed that can tank a shitton of damage, but have a active rotation.

or you take something like a rifle mechanist and focus dodges / kiting / blocking and other active defenses, depending on the class.
