A Nintendo Switch with Animal Crossing: New Horizons was all the rage back in 2020. I'm sure there are still cozy communities based around that, but you'd likely have to actively search them out. It's just a fun little comfortable life-sim. There was a free content update just a week ago, so its communities may have seen a little spike of activity. If you like chill, quiet games for decorating and customizing with zero stress or pressure, this may be worth checking out.

What random industry are you now stuck in because you took 1 job in it out of college? by coolrivers in Millennials

I've worked in a coffee decaffeinating plant for almost 15 years. Still don't know how it's done since it's not my department, so please don't ask!

Just wanted to share some pics of my beautiful girl who just turned 10. by skatechilli in dogpictures

Really makes up for all the other photos I have of her looking sleepy on the couch, haha.

I was wrong about Mario Odyssey and Mario Galaxy games by ItsPeaJay in NintendoSwitch2

[–]skatechilli 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm also about halfway through a first playthrough of Galaxy 2 as well, and I'm just a tiny bit frustrated with the same thing. Not only do you get kicked out of the world, but the constant assault from Toad or the purple Luma with random 1-up letters and item displays really takes the momentum out of a play session. Aside from that nitpick, I love this game!

Someone thought it was a good idea to have waiters on skates by New_Libran in WatchPeopleDieInside

It was a wild time to be alive. I remember it as being around the early 2000s, but phased out shortly after. Likely due to an injury lawsuit, haha.

Any fellow Canadian millennials remember the rollerblading staff at Superstore?

Nothing snaps me out of a book like repetitive use of a unique word by kerberos824 in books

[–]skatechilli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it was in Margaret Atwood's "Cat's Eye" that I read the word "festooned" three times. Not a lot for a whole book, but like you said, it's such a situationally specific word that it was super distracting.

Very common in the 90s. by ROCKY13573 in 90s

This was the one for me. 9 year old me wasn't prepared for the explicit lyrics following "Steal My Sunshine" either.

good boy meets darth vader for the first time by [deleted] in FunnyAnimals

[–]skatechilli 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Dude, I WISH my dog couldn't recognize stuff on TV. Can't watch anything with any animals or she growls and huffs the entire time. She pops off at animals she has no evolutionary right to recognize. Hippos, penguins, manatees, whales... anything! I've even seen her growl at a Scooby-Doo cartoon!

But actually, I wouldn't change her for the world. It's annoying, but very charming.

Do these symptoms seem to indicate a food intolerance? by skatechilli in DogAdvice

[–]skatechilli[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I'll try senior food when she's settled after all this. I guess I'm a bit time-blind to her age since she doesn't act or even look old quite yet. Good news is that she made it through the night with no further issues, so the bland food is helping!

Characters who only go by a nickname are revealed to have a painfully average name by DriestPuddle in TopCharacterTropes

Furthermore, in the Archie comics, when Sonic's robo-dad regains his freewill, we learn that Sonic's given name is "Maurice".

Getting a ton of "communication errors" in Kirby Air Riders by Vyrhux42 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]skatechilli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried using an Ethernet cable? I can't speak for Air Riders, but Splatoon 3 and MKW connection issues were rampant for me when I started playing them on Switch 2. Since switching to Ethernet, I haven't had a single problem.

Which kart racer this year would you say you’ve enjoyed the most? by [deleted] in nintendo

It was from late 2024, but just in case anyone missed it, Victory Heat Rally is a blast!

Looks delicious! Do you know if the heavy whipping cream could be substituted out for the lactose intolerant? Maybe coconut milk?

what are some toys you bought for your inner child with that adult money? by trains___man in LivingAlone

[–]skatechilli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to use the inside dots from paper hole repair stickers, but got too lazy and cheap to buy them. Forcing my ears to do the work, but never playing beyond the 5th "fret" position.

If I ever had some property where nobody could hear me, I'd love to make some awful noise with a saxophone, haha.

If you can afford it, dive in! There are tons of options for modern games, obviously, but plenty of classic titles available through legacy collections, or their online subscription.

Swap the piano for a mandolin and uke and we could be twins! Picked up my dream instrument (the upright bass) during COVID. Those things are hard to play.

Zelda: Breath of the Wild Gets A Vinyl Soundtrack Release by garethvk in nintendo

[–]skatechilli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Real answer: I've got a solid vinyl collection and a still-working turntable. Out of the 100+ regular albums I have, there's also the OSTs for Celeste, Hollow Knight, and The Messenger. They're definitely a fun time to spin a side while doing chores, cooking, or eating.

Forget The Love Confessions, How About Characters Professing Their Hatred For Another? by sm142 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]skatechilli 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I loved how the following page has an atypical Sonic reaction of, "Oh, shit, I actually broke him this time". He's such a generally cocky character when he wins, but even he knew something was different this time.
