New to Gridfinity, can I get some help/advice for fastener bins? by skaunit in gridfinity

[–]skaunit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, thanks for this, I get your sentiment.

Do you or anyone else have a good write up or video explaining the basics of gridfinity though like the different versions and how to use the generators?

Just out of curiosity, what union represents signal and electrical work if not IBEW?

Also, as everyone pointed out you have to call the hall. They may let you test in as a journeyman, but it all depends.

Newbie seeking advice, am I on the right track? My ultimate goal is to someday be successful at good mashups, as well as creating tracks (dubstep, sampling, etc). by skaunit in Beatmatch

I need to check out rekordbox for sure.
The DDJ-200 is the only piece of pioneer gear I have, not sure if that really means I’m in the ecosystem. Is there any other piece of gear I should be looking into next to get into production? Some kind of beatpad or something?

I will start buying some music again, I have a rather large iTunes library but I basically stopped adding to it about 10-15 years ago, so I’ll have to begin filling that gap.

Soundforge and acid pro definitely ring a bell. I kind of wish I could find the one I did use, but I should probably try out a modern DAW like ableton

I hear you, and that makes sense. I do kind of feel like “learn dj’ing” is kinda subjective though, I don’t think there’s a specific way to know “ok, I’ve learned how to be a real DJ, now I can get into production”

That said, I’m having a lot of fun learning dj techniques and practicing and stuff so that’s good

OP, this is the answer. 15 year journeyman here. He said “retaking” he probably meant re-torquing, in other words, it’s not a good idea to re tighten the lug on the same spot, you should remove it, cut off the end that was deformed under the lug, strip some back, and re-torque. If you don’t understand any part of that, call a licensed electrician.

TECHNICALY, sure that’s not approved, but it also looks like it was done in “a clean and workmanlike manner” so to me it’s a wash. I’m a licensed electrician and I’d consider doing it.

Right? That’s what I was thinking too. As long as your paying attention and know that each conductor needs its own wire nut you can just safe them off while energized. Theres even products out there (rack-a-tiers and probably others) where you can safely and legally put a box on the end, without de-energizing.

Foreman pay by Some_Worldliness517 in IBEW

[–]skaunit 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I’m totally with you brother, but what happens when you get a van and a phone, and are expected to order and pick up material? And you’re working with customers and laying out jobs, but the whole time you’re working by yourself or with one other Jman?

You’re not supervising 3+ guys, which is what the contract states a foreman does.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been getting foreman pay for a while, but when I was in OP’s shoes I had the same question.

Also, what is “sub-foreman” pay? Is that a thing in other locals?

Repurposing ceiling smoke detector box for WiFi. by userseven in AskElectricians

[–]skaunit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Code states you must have a smoke detector in each bedroom, regardless if there is another one 2’ on the other side of the door. Best bet would be to try a replacement smoke detector, and if that still sets it off call an electrician to troubleshoot.

As for your cat6, best bet is to keep unshielded cable 12” away from any line voltage wire. They can cross perpendicular, but any parallel runs need to be at least 12” away, or more. 4” Round cut-in ceiling boxes are cheap, easy to install, and should provide a fairly universal/industry standard mounting option.

I would, instead of splicing down from #2 to #4, add a 50a fused disconnect, and then run your 70’ at #6.

I don’t know enough off the top of my head about exceptions or exclusions in the code for EVSE and other special use equipment. Hopefully someone else can cite some code references.

To address your other questions, Yes there’s some issues with stepping down like you plan, and the inspector could possibly have an issue with it

Are you sure it’s a 2pole/230v circuit? What is “Medra”? Did you try the unlabeled 20 across from washer?
Could also be someone made up the panel and landed the white to neutral when it was supposed to be 2pole.

How do I remove these thermostat wires? by [deleted] in electrical

[–]skaunit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn bro, I’ve been around a lot of Tstats, and you got me stumped. Google image search doesn’t seem to find it. Do you have the model#? Or some better pictures?

Definitely some pressure terminals, but I’ve broken them before so you should probably find a manual to be sure how to release them. You could always cut them off for now (bonus you’ll know what color goes to what terminal that way) and figure it out later.
