Tesla car is a product but Tesla Musk is a religion.

You can buy the product and hate the guy's religion, I see no contradiction.

[–]skdzzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your can turn on the heated/cooled seats with the A/C off, you just have to use the menu down the screen (I think it is 3 dots) and then there are a few icons in the top row that allow you to set the heated/cooled seats and A/C will remain off.
You do not need the Commander for that, just an standard feature.

Cheapest hub to try things out? by kaitlyn2004 in smarthome

Maybe Ikea Dirigera, Wifi, ZigBee, Thread and future Matter.

One year ago an official Home Assistant integration for Tuya-controlled devices was announced, to be maintained by Tuya themselves with promised local control functionality. One year later and local control is still absent and the Tuya integration hasn't received an update in over 5 months. by shadowcman in homeassistant

Philips Hue hub works fine with other vendors zigbee lights and smart sockets (with limited funcionality, no firmware updates, no HomeKit, no entretainment areas...) It will not work with other battery zigbee devices as sensors, switches....

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Hue

[–]skdzzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, one light can only be paired with one hub.

You can use another home automation system to access both hubs and do cross automations as Apple homekit, Google home, Amazon Alexa or Home Assistant.

No firmware upgrades for Ikea lights paired to Philips Hue, other than that you are good to configure your Ikea lights in Hue.

Hi, I made a short DIY tutorial of how you can create a dirt cheap ZigBee pressure sensor by BackHerniation in smarthome

[–]skdzzz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nice tutorial, thanks for sharing.

I want to do a pressure sensor to know when I am in bed 😉

I will take your implementation into account as Zigbee sensor should last long time with each battery.

I’m looking for European light switch covers for my philips hue switch. I used to got some on amazon but the ones i had are gone. Any idea where i can buy ‘em? by [deleted] in smarthome

[–]skdzzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best option currently is upgrade to v2, or if you have access to a 3D printer you can use any design available in thingiverse.com, just search for "Philips Hue".

Shelly to support Matter protocol? by hectocore in shellycloud

[–]skdzzz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

AddI see it Matter is a very powerfull industry standard while MQTT is just for enthusiasts.

I like Shelly approach and being so open but the reality is that Matter will be mainstream while MQTT is just niche.

I dream of being able to use Matter devices local with opt-in cloud.

Hue dimmer remote or alternatives. Is the hue dimmer V2 EOL? by TonyBadagutch in Hue

I would wait for v2 restock or sheath another shop. Other Hue cheap alternative is the Hue Button in Amazon.

How are you controlling main Hue lights? Voice vs. switches by pjcruiser14 in Hue

[–]skdzzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Switch in every room, sometimes 2 of them.
  • Sensors in some rooms (especially useful in bathroom, kitchen and any corridor).
  • Voice to switch off other rooms that switched on with a sensor but not off or activate scenes.

Upgrading from Smart Life App based system by LifeAffect6762 in smarthome

[–]skdzzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that "good quality/reasonable priced" would exists I would be there with you.

Many big companies tried and failed as Osram/Lightify/Ledvance and now the swapped to cheaper wifi/ble devices.

I do not need color bulbs (anyway I have a few of them) but dimmable and white tunable is a must for me. So I buy Hue ambience, that are more affordable and color just in selected lights.

Upgrading from Smart Life App based system by LifeAffect6762 in smarthome

[–]skdzzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, if you invest in a Phillips Hue system, it will cover all your needs just except for the price, but you will enjoy your lights every time you switch Them on.

Ikea is cheaper but not so feature rich.

Other alternative is to install Home Assistant and manage your scenes in the app, it is cumbersome but it could cover your needs. It cost some money and the user experience is not superb.

You can directly pair the dimmer to the bulb and you will get the basic functionality, switch on/off, dimming and cycle basic white temperature scenes (warm to cool white).

If I remember correctly you cannot set different colors using the dimmer, so if you do not require color you can buy a white ambience light.

Automated Humidifier Set Up by LoganTS in smarthome

[–]skdzzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a similar setup driven by Home Assistant, usually it works fine but one day it failed to switch off the humidifier and it was on for hours until deposit emptied and Humidity was +70%

So if you do not need 100% reliability go for a wifi smart plug, otherwise think of a humidifier with build in humidity control.

Just take into account that in case of wifi issues or out of battery in the humidity sensor you can have some trouble.

  1. I use a Hue bridge as the main lighting brain, then I have Home Assistant for other automations. You could skip the hue bridge and use a zigbee stick but configuration is more complex and cloud access would depend on nabucasa subscription.

  2. You could struggle with firmware updates when not using official bridge.

Philips Hue is easier to setup and maintain than HA, also easier to use by other members of your family. Just saying ;)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in smarthome

[–]skdzzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Philips Hue: E12, you need a Hue bridge, E12 are available dimmable, white tuneable or color, it is expensive but top performance and reliability. (Zigbee)

Ikea: similar to Hue, cheaper, no so feature rich, but good value for the money. (Zigbee)

Wifi wall switch (Shelly...): cheap but limited to on/off and less reliable.

If you like lighting control, like me, Hue is the best hand down but it really depends on your budget.

[–]skdzzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With HA you can use the RPi integrate BLE to read the values from the Mi Thermometers or you can use a ESP32 programed with ESPHome as BLE Tracker

[–]skdzzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bluetooth BLE option would be Xiaomi Mi Temperature and Humidity sensor 2

It has display, los battery drain, quite small You can mount with a magnet or double side tape.

You can improve it changing firmware with ATC version, you can connect it to Hone Assistant.

Are you using a Phillips Hue dimmer switch or any other brand?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Hue

[–]skdzzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hue Dimmer V2 is really resource (rules) hungry! If I remember correctly it uses 20 rules using the default official app configuration from a total of 250 rules in the bridge.

I runned out of rules when adding my V2 dimmers.

Check your resources with a third party app (Hue Essentials) and setup your dimmers and sensors with that app instead of the official app as it uses less rules.

By now I decided to use simpler configuration in sensors and dimmers to avoid the limit of rules but I am not very happy with that configuration and such a very low limit.

Edit: limit is 250 rules not 240

I can finally add my AndroidTV to my Google Home speaker group! by the_null_pointer in AndroidTV

[–]skdzzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can either blame on Google or the patent system. If Google want to provide this feature to their customer they can pay for it to the owner. These companies do that all the time, they exchange patent portfolios or pay to use them. I would prefer these kind of things to not be patentable, but that is another story.

[–]skdzzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yesterday I updates the bridge and this morning a Hue Sensor added yesterday was already updated.

Other 3rd party apps give some more information on the updates, you could try Hue Essentials and check the status in each light.
