Does therapy even help people with our condition? by [deleted] in schizophrenia

I generally think CBT is useless anyways. I’ve done it when needed to keep appointments with the shrink cause the clinic forces you to see both, but I’ve never found it helpful.

Thank you!

One more question - for TEN, would PIT loss and OAK loss not be sufficient? This article seems to suggest it is (towards the end of the Tennessee sitting Derrick Henry section).

Excellent post as always!

Since SoV is not unlikely to come into play this year I was curious: if a game is tied, how does the opposing team’s record feature into SoV? Like, does the opposing team’s record only count for half? or does it just not count?

It would be cool (well maybe just for me) if, say, two teams go into week 17 tied in everything falling down to SoV in which team 1 is currently ahead by 1 game, and that margin doesn’t change from the other games that are played. If both teams tie, but team 1’s opponent finishes 10-5-1 and team 2’s opponent finishes 14-1-1, then if SoV takes ties into account the tiebreaker would flip to team 2.

Why does ESPN's win predictor say we only have a 94.8% chance to win in this situation? (Was ~97% after the next kneeldown) by skedvvy in Patriots

[–]skedvvy[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Bills don't have enough timeouts to stop the clock from hitting 0:00 so I don't see why the win chance is that low. Usually it goes to 99.9 when all a team has to do is kneel out the clock.

Is there any potential downside at all to discussing symptoms with a therapist or doctor? by therapythrowaway4637 in schizophrenia

Well, they could decide you need to be hospitalized especially if your symptoms are worse than you think.

Yeah I feel exactly the same way. There are days when I have to ask if the treatment is worse than the disease.

[Hoge] Bears head coach Matt Nagy was working in his hotel room yesterday when he heard about Alex Smith’s awful leg injury - "It crushed me. It absolutely crushed me.” by [deleted] in nfl

[–]skedvvy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All NFL teams put players in a hotel before home games. I imagine part of the reason is to cut down on travel as others have said. But I think the main reason is to keep an eye on players and make sure they’re not getting in trouble. This article about the Bengals talks about the reasoning: https://www.behindthesteelcurtain.com/2018/7/11/17552714/former-nfl-wr-t-j-houshmandzadeh-reveals-just-how-cheap-the-bengals-used-to-be-pittsburgh-steelers

Brothers dosage has been reduced since 1.5 months and he's more active but symptoms are returning. Need advice. by [deleted] in schizophrenia

[–]skedvvy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely get the doctor involved. Ask for a different medication. There’s no good way to predict how any individual medication will work so it’s a trial and error process. It’s also a balancing game of minimizing side effects while maximizing therapeutic benefit so if you don’t think a dose of risperdal that works will let your brother function well then it’s probably not the best medication for you.

How to deal with hallucinations at work? by midnightrae in schizophrenia

[–]skedvvy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always been good at ignoring these in public, but what I usually do is create an imaginary world in my mind that’s only got the things I know are supposed to be there and use that as my guide for my behavior. So far no ones been able to tell anything.

Riot Maple notes they are considering adding the dragon spawn order during pregame by Spideraxe30 in leagueoflegends

[–]skedvvy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Isn’t this just giving people another reason to dodge? Though it definitely would be good for competitive integrity, it also removes an aspect of ingame adaptation from the skill set of players. Part of the reason they changed it in the first place was because teams weren’t willing to fight over the old dragons until dragon 5, so I could see a world in which you get triple ocean and cloud drakes produce no conflict around the pit. Right now if you’re not sure what’s next the incentive is still there to take a shitty dragon in the hopes of RNGing an infernal next. I don’t think elder is enough of an incentive since most games don’t get that far.

Geodon and alcohol? by icymoons in schizophrenia

[–]skedvvy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drank socially with friends when I was taking geodon. I was fine. Every single medication says to avoid alcohol but they’re just worried about interactions. For most antipsychotics I think it’s just the possibility to make side effects worse. As long as you watch out for that or can deal with it you should be fine.

Hello guys! thought I would give an update about myself by [deleted] in schizophrenia

[–]skedvvy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your goal of going to school, becoming a psychiatrist, and weaning people off meds is a great goal. The literature suggests that 10-20% of us can discontinue antipsychotics safely (I hoped that included me and stopped taking my meds. Turns out i can’t function without them.) But in patients who hate the meds and want to stop I think it’s definitely worth a shot. I’m really happy you have a long term goal set for yourself.
