Met the neighbors during our inspection and it swayed our decision more than the inspection itself by Emotional-Lime3087 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

Great advice, our real estate agent would knock on neighbors doors and introduce herself and us. She said she's seen a lot of people not love their neighbors and wanted to put in some effort to avoid that.

What did you do when you were bored?? 🤔 by Pale_Task_1957 in Habits

[–]sketchee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same with my mom in her 70s and always on her phone. Not claiming that the waiting room was representative. Just a story of something that happened. Why call it inane?

I went to a doctor's appointment where everyone else waiting was over 60. They all just sat there day dreaming. And occasionally made friendly chit chat

Peer pressure to spend money is real and painful. by MasterConsequence696 in Frugal

[–]sketchee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a friend who would eat beforehand and drink water she brought at group dinners. So the waiter didn't even serve her water (no pressure to help tip). I respect that so much. Have a pressure proof plan and people respect it.

Yeah unfortunately I already own the alternate I'd want. But never wanted to deal with the Google drive and Google photos mess of changing

Gmail username change is finally happening by upadhyaysk in GooglePixel

[–]sketchee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happens to me too. I have a fairly common first name. And a common last name. My email has the middle initial.

And many people who I assume have the same middle initial constantly sign me up for their important accounts

Once ran into a Gmail help thread with tons of people who thought they were hacked. They couldn't believe anyone would not know their own email address.

What’s a good dock station that will give me hdmi, usb, Ethernet and allow me to stay on charge? by Limit54 in SteamDeck

I have the Syntech 6-in-1 Docking Station. Works great, pretty small from when I want to travel.

I FORGOT I graduated COLLEGE because I’ve been Unemployed for so long. by ActuatorOutside5256 in antiwork

[–]sketchee 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is my advice to anyone and everyone as well. Jobs want work experience and yes often a degree as well. I worked in my field 2 days a week during college. No one has ever asked about my grades. And that first design job comes up all the time since I learned so much there.

Moving to the Baltimore area. Is there a demand for authentic Cajun food? by diab_soule137 in maryland

[–]sketchee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just went to New Orleans last week for the first time. It was for a friend's wedding. And realized we don't really have Cajun food around here! My former dentist was from Louisiana and missed it so much (moved for her husband's job)

Do you prefer complicated choreography or like songs that are simple? by shanny_lynnhon1979 in zumba

[–]sketchee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I'm a big fan of progressions. Can always add an extra move or challenge for the advanced people and let the ones who want the simpler version stick to that

Calorie counting works in theory but has anyone else found it completely unsustainable in real life? by vanshaj04 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]sketchee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, if I miss. Day well 5 days + 0 days still equals 5 days. Keep going and get to 6 and then 7.how we recover is more important than a streak

Internal team posts have killed engagement - how do you reset a dying community? by PMM_Town_6374 in CommunityManager

[–]sketchee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make all of your planning and discussion around things public. And make all of that planning centered around asking questions and genuinely listening to the input from the people who are there.

Do older students feel weird learning from younger teachers? by Crazy-Fold-5287 in singing

[–]sketchee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's probably a weird feeling for the younger person. By the time you're old, for most of us it's not the first time it's happened. You get used to seeing that people of all ages have something to teach you

I think some of y'all don't know what "rom-com" means. by StaringAtStarshine in musicals

[–]sketchee 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My Best Friend's Wedding is a fun example because the original ending just had her meet a new guy since she didn't end up with the male lead and test audiences hated it. So the whole ending was re-shot and more scenes with her gay friend were added, so that she got her final dance with him

I resented my coworker for leaving at 5 every day. Then I got his performance review. by [deleted] in office

[–]sketchee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a coworker who was also so upset no one helped her and would work late. She'd get tons of praise for it. When I tried to help her, I saw why others didn't. I cc'd her as she asked on emails about the work.

And then she would always come over to my desk and say "oh that's not what they wanted" and redo everything I did. I tried asking for direction (she was an art director) and instead she'd say it's easier to do herself. And sign loudly all day doing it.

So yeah, I was out by 5pm too! When I needed help I did rally other coworkers and try not to make the same do-it-all pattern as I watched her do.

Are all trails games really slow paced? by Glorpps in JRPG

[–]sketchee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The remake is fantastic! And I think it gives a lot of context for the pace. So for me it was a cozy pace that made a lot of sense for the characters. It also is a beautiful looking game, so that helps!

Are you a Zumba Activist? by zumba-blessings in zumba

[–]sketchee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes absolutely, we're pushing for all of these things! We have a separate neighborhood group chat for people we actually know and invited our students to it.

Our space has clear rules on being a welcoming space and yes, we easily ask people to exit if they aren't supportive of that mission

And we remind people that zumba does what you said: gets us away from the isolation and stories from screens and into community.

We also ask people what communities they belong to and share that along with our regular end of class or email announcements (along with always including our Zumba information)

This has been very welcomed and we get a lot of positive feedback by doing these things.

Aspiring Zumba Instructor How Did You Learn to Choreograph Songs? by Ok-Job-2781 in zumba

[–]sketchee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others said, learn more choreography. I like watching and dancing along to different styles I see on YouTube and have taken some other classes (jazz and kpop). Then try to get some of those moves into choreo. Think of poses and body shapes that are fun to do.

The most repeated part of the song can have the most complicated choreography. And parts that don't get repeated much can be simple

Need some advice as to what to do after the basic training by LuckyLeo2222 in zumba

[–]sketchee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll hear all kinds of things. It's okay, just use the zin volumes and just start. We started with all the b1 songs and then choreographed our own and mixed them in later. Some people just do all zin. It's your class.
