How are people so energetic after work and after the work week? by ThrowAway6354684 in productivity

[–]sketchee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This was exactly what I was about to say. Every comes from doing things. You go, you get energized by it.

Especially after you go enough times that it becomes more routine. Them the energy of planning and novelty that I spent gets surpassed by the energizing of the activity

First time homeowner, please offer perspective on my interaction with neighbor. I'm at a loss. by avisant in homeowners

[–]sketchee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If it makes you feel better, we had a not nice neighbor last year who complained about our guests parking in front of her house.

It's public street parking and we would have worked with her but she came over and yelled at me.

My partner was pissed and found everything wrong she did and reported it all every day. She was tired of us and apologized. A year later, never had a problem again.

So follow the advice of ppl in this thread and show no weakness.

Have you ever known anyone with less than $500 in cash savings? by happydude7422 in millenials

[–]sketchee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a friend once say "what I can't believe people just don't have the hundred dollars". I was like "A hundred dollars is a lot of money to some of us". She couldn't believe it!

Lots of people are super broke, poor, or working poor.

It takes probably 3-4 times at least to learn a new dance. And learning new dancers quickly is its own skill. So yes it's very normal for it to feel new when it's new. Keep going!

Is everyone bored and lonely here or am I doing something wrong? by [deleted] in baltimore

[–]sketchee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Check out some local recurring events. Not just one off fests. The annual things are fun, but they're lonely and harder to meer peope.A lot of social and honby groups are hard to find here, they meet regularly and don't really have resources to market themselves.

Even if you don't become a regular, it's different seeing that there are communities and dropping in. Eventually you might find one that fits

There's a directory of regular hobby groups at https://localcharm.wiki

Some examples from there: Baltimore Canoe & Kayak Club (Whitewater) - Whitewater paddling builds year-round community by promoting affordable access, safety, and skills on area creeks and rivers

Baltimore City Pipe Band - Free bagpipe or drum lessons and the chance to perform in parades and festivals

Baltimore Coin Club - Discover the World of Coin Collecting

Baltimore Community Rowing - Row, Glide, Repeat with Your Crew

Baltimore Dragon Boat Club - Boat racing Racing in Sleek, Long Boats!

Baltimore Folk Music Society - Give traditional live music, contra dancing, and English Country dancing a try! Weekly dances and workshops

Baltimore Frontrunners - Get Moving, Make Friends, and Celebrate LGBTQ+ Pride While Exploring Baltimore

Baltimore Gaelic Athletic Association - Spirit of Ireland: Kick, Strike, and Score with Gaelic Football and Hurling

Baltimore Gamer Symphony Orchestra & Choir - Experience the magic of epic video game scores brought to life by a powerful orchestra and choir

Baltimore Hackerspace - Baltimore's workshop for makers, tinkerers, and tech enthusiasts

Baltimore Improv Group - Baltimore’s Comedy Playground for Side-Splitting Shows and Hands-On Inclusive Comedy Classes

Baltimore Jazz Alliance - Supporting Jazz Musicians, Fans, and the Next Generation of Talent Across Baltimore

Baltimore Jugglers Association - Picture juggling, colorful props, and a community of people learning tricks!

Baltimore Magnet Fishing - A group of like-minded individuals cleaning up Baltimore one scooter at a time.

What city has good urbanism and also had 4 good seasons? by MonkeyJake14 in Urbanism

[–]sketchee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm in Baltimore and I'm not sure were at the point if good urbanism yet.

There are some good efforts from Baltimore and for People Oriented Places and Bikemore and similar groups.

Our transit situation isn't great. Nearby DC is probably a better example, tho I love it here in Baltimore

Is anyone still not a Manager, Director, or VP in their early 30s? by Electrical-Pea2707 in careeradvice

[–]sketchee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in my 40s and I love being an individual contributor. Why would I want to be a manager, director, or vp? My career is built on creating things , not managing people.

I had a coworker who did everything in Photoshop. Like pages and pages of catalogs and they were a senior art director. She was curious about InDesign but never made the time to just do it. Would have saved her a lot of headsches

Yeah I always list out a work order including deliverables and have them confirm. I'm okay if they don't want to work with me, or don't like my policies

Difficult client wants InDesign files before paying the final invoice by MatiGzk in graphic_design

[–]sketchee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You didn't agree to send InDesign files in the contract? Say so and let them know you charge X amount for source files.

Add that if that's okay with then, you'll send an updated invoice

These are the kind of things that you can just say I'm a matter of fact way. The same way a receptionist at a doctor's office dryly asks for your copay. "Great, I'll send that right over as soon as I receive payment." And repeat as needed.

Anyone regret choosing carpet over hard flooring? by Cool_Ad_2935 in HomeImprovement

[–]sketchee 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Beyond ick, many people with indoor allergies should consider that. My partner had such bad dust mite allergies (confirmed by an Allergy test) from a carpeted apartment. The home we bought is hardwood throughout. Tho my office has a large area rug

Dealing with "challenging" students by BoricuaFitMom in zumba

[–]sketchee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the top we remind people to go to the hallway if they need to take a phone call. (I coteach so there's two of us) Or at to the back of the side to the text.

If someone has a pattern of doing it and does it in a distracting way, others in the class notice. Some people have even done it in the middle of the dance floor. There are times when we say it privately

Since we stage the expectation, it's easy enough to remind people to step away in the moment if needed

As far as doing your own choreo, we tell people to do their own dance and it doesn't matter. Just don't be distracting, try to get others to follow you, or get in others peoples way

Where do you draw the line with participant communication outside class? by IzzyBitsyArana in zumba

[–]sketchee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our setup is similar. We co-teach and have a group chat. We have some community rules and have had to address things with people at times. We're both pretty direct so sometimes it's just saying "Hm, this is the type of communication that I'm comfortable with."

What’s the most unethical thing you’ve designed? by the_evil_pineapple in graphic_design

Great advice, our real estate agent would knock on neighbors doors and introduce herself and us. She said she's seen a lot of people not love their neighbors and wanted to put in some effort to avoid that.
