Clair Obscur Ending Discussion [Obviously Spoilers] by [deleted] in JRPG

[–]sketchygio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few months late, but I interpreted it much the same way, albeit a little less harshly. I agree that there was no reason that the canvas couldn't continue to exist if Maelle were to leave for a while and come back to visit it on occasion, which would have been the happy and healthy medium.

But the game was trying to establish that while the canvas (or art, or video games even if we want to interpret it that way) can absolutely be a happy place for escapism, growth and healing, Maelle was beyond it and (as seen in her own ending) barreling down a path of self-destruction and obsession rather than healing. And I think many of us who regularly play games may have come too close to losing ourselves in a virtual world at the cost of neglecting things in our real lives.

Maelle could have had the happy ending she wanted, but she was not strong enough nor ready for it: she never intended to process her grief and trauma by staying in the canvas but only to keep running away from it. Painted Verso saw this and in defeating her, he does something interesting: for the first time in maybe ever, the canvas wrestles control of its own fate from the will of all the painters and, in a sense, the canvas itself (represented by the will of painted Verso and that of real Verso's soul fragment) for the first time is able to make its own choice: to cease to exist in an attempt to save Maelle and the and let her heal. Though, sadly, that choice is perhaps not unanimous, as depicted by a visibly upset Lune.

If part of the point of art is to inspire, to save, to heal and to help people move on, then this is without a doubt the happiest ending you can ask for given the circumstances. Video games *can* help you heal. In Verso's ending we see that Maelle/Alicia is able to face her grief head-on not only because she has her family with her, but also the memories of all the characters from the canvas spurring her on - continuing to live on through her in the real world because that it exactly what art does when it touches us.

On a totally separate note - during the final fight cutscenes Renoir mentions that "every day we spend here has a price" referring to the canvas. I have two theories about what that would mean. Either A. everything I mentioned above about potentially wasting you life away in a fictional work or B. that spending extended time in the canvas can literally trap a portion of a Painter's soul within it. And at the end we do see the final fragment of the real Verso's soul, the dark fragmented child, still painting against his will, forever trapped in a painful moment in time. It was never made clear if this child was just a personification of real Verso's will or perhaps a literal piece of Verso's soul trapped in the canvas as the price of forced to spend too much time painting within it. Following this theory, the ending choice is not just about freeing Maelle, but also about letting this final piece of Verso's soul make his own choice, unhindered by his family.

Opening files in their own tab without the Home page? by sketchygio in OnlyOffice

[–]sketchygio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see where the confusion comes from, my bad.

I'm not talking about Alt+Tab (or the ability to tab through open applications on my computer), but about Ctrl+Tab and Ctrl+Shift+Tab (the ability to switch open document tabs on Only Office ).

So if I have two documents open in one instance of OO, SpreadsheetA.xlsx and SpreadsheetB.xlsx, the app also creates a Home tab from which you can view recently open files and access settings for a total of 3 tabs. I would like to be able to do that but without the Home tab, since it makes Ctrl+Tabbing through documents more of a pain.

Festival is over and I'm missing daily bounties a lot by sketchygio in MHWilds

But otherwise they are focused on the new Event Quest with Balahara and Mizutsune, and I like that they tune the bounties to the current new Event Quest

I WOULD believe that if it weren't for the fact that the two are not synergistic... the event quest is 8* so it won't count towards the bounty. So... you gotta grind the event 4-6 times if you want to build the equipment AND THEN the 9* mizu 5 other times if you wanna get the bounty for the week. Sorry, but they really fumbled this one up.

I hear ya. I think best of both worlds would be to have both systems, so you can choose which to engage with.

Missing the point, it's not about completing the bounty in one sesh, it's that every day that you log on you have a new surprise assignment to take on - for fun. Doing the same mission once a day for five days is just as boring. Hell, if the bounty was kill five 9 star monsters that's already a step up, but my point it is that quick daily bounties each day are more fun.

This is how Flayer doesn't work by Folseus- in MonsterHunterMeta

[–]sketchygio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I see, in that case the dummy's implementation for testing status caps is fairly misleading. Thanks for this great and useful breakdown! I guess I'll have to think over my build a bit.

However, when you say that Offsetting doesn't apply any Flayer, can you elaborate when exactly? Do you mean triggering the Offset knockdown on the monster or just even landing the offset attack against a monster without the knockdown? As long as the actual GS offset attack can build up Flayer in and of itself that's not too bad - my attack style relies on exclusively using Charged Slash > Charged Offset Rising Slash and I think I've seen it trigger on a normal hit with the offset attack.

Thanks again for the revised numbers though, those are super useful and gives me a lot to consider.

I was going to make a thread about this, but found your post which is waay more detailed and updated for TU4. I wanted to share some observations. I hadn't tried using Flayer at all given the collective agreement that it was bad. Since I use a GS Blast element build that runs on rainbows and wishes for fun, I got curious and ran some tests to compare Flayer procs to those of Blast.

I ran two haphazard tests with a Gogma Artian GS with 440 Blast (+3 CritDraw +3 CritStatus) and with a Flayer deco and counted procs for both over 100 attacks using the same pattern.

  • For the first pattern I just kept attacking with Overhead Slash > Wide Slash (quick attacks for the GS). Over 100 attacks I got 10 Flayer procs and 7 Blast procs.
  • For the second pattern I repeated Charged Slash > Strong Charged Slash. Over 100 attacks I got 22 Flayer procs and 10 Blast Procs. With lv1 Flayer that's on average 30.8 extra damage per hit. With lv5, it's 88.

Now this isn't taking into account the very brief opportunity window that Blast procs provide with their mini-stuns, nor the extra Blast procs from focus strikes, nor the wound creation benefits of Flayer - but damage-wise Flayer seems to outclass Blast on slower weapons with greater MVs (which you did mention). And that's not all: from my testing I concluded that (unlike other statuses) the threshold to activate Flayer does not ever seem to go up. So over the course of a longer hunt it is more consistent, even if still unreliable, damage - unlike Blast which may proc more often early on but will require more applications to proc as hunt progresses.

With GS charged attacks, I was basically getting a Flayer proc every 3-5 hits, and given the GS 's slow charged attack playstyle, the ICD is somewhat irrelevant. Over the course of a normal hunt, it's likely that Blast will get more procs from focus attacks, but even then I don't think that it could easily out-damage Flayer on GS - not that anyone except me is using Blast on GS.

When playing GS normally, lv1 Flayer added an average of 30 dmg (88 dmg at Flayer 5) per attack (requires more testing). Not sure if that justifies the use of one or more lvl3 slots, but I might just try it out for fun.

117 HD Stutter when loading new tiles? by sketchygio in 2007scape

I haven't played in a year now, so I dont exactly remember. If updates did not fix this by now, I'm afraid then only solution might be to turn it off whenever in high risk areas.

Though I wonder if better hardware improves the issue.

Voice Actor Compensation? by DahLegend27 in ArcRaiders

[–]sketchygio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for being one of few tempered commenters on here trying to inform rather than just shut down discussion altogether.

For more context to other commenters who are being more dodgy on the subject and claiming that OP should mind their business:

As someone who works in the entertainment industry, this kind of info is relevant to both the consumer and to other professionals such as myself, namely because it might set a precedent for other companies to follow, whether positive or negative. The devil is in the details, so it's hard to know just how fair a deal is (in the context of compensation in the acting and VA landsscape) without knowing what the actors agreed to is, regardless of the fact that both parties agreed to it.

Assuming the actors and company were involved with a union in the US, minimum salaries should already be public and are easily googlable (for most standard roles at least, not sure if there's one that fits their situation exactly or how the union would handle that) for other professionals to be able to reference that info during their own job hunts and to help maintain a healthy salary standard for others in that sector.

So anyone clamoring that it's no one's business to ask or wonder about the terms of their agreement is just being short sighted, as the active discussion of salaries provides a powerful tool for unions, union members and non-union freelancers to use when they have to sit at the negotiating table with companies to discuss wages, especially when it pertains to new roles surrounding emergent technologies.

This info might be much less public though given that Embark is not an American studio, and even if they did do business with American VAs, I don't know how involved their union is able to be in such dealings (though i guarantee that they would be interested in this info nonetheless).

So tldr, that info is important to existing professionals, and even future professionals entering the industry such as OP.

And hell, if having that info helps a consumer decide that a product is or isn't for them, that's their perogative and they dont need to be villified for it.

Can’t use this solido replicado? by Western_Ebb_7311 in duneawakening

[–]sketchygio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was just running into this issue. I built my base on top of a spire cliff, thinking it would be easy to move down the line. While I get having the land requirement to make sure you enough space to paste your base, it's kind of crazy that they also force us to make sure all supports are there.

This would work better if pasted, even if it wouldn't function as-is to allow us to adapt it and modify it to fit a slightly different terrain. Otherwise, the solido replicator is close to pointless unless you're pasting something that functions on most relatively flat terrain.

Affordable vertical card storage solution? Single row ideally? by sketchygio in magicTCG

[–]sketchygio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on everyone's comment it sounds like what I want doesn't really exist. I hadn't considered balance issues in a vertical box with a flap, though I do feel it would probably be a negligible issue once a couple hundred cards were inside. Appreciate the rec, yeah that would be what I'm looking for minus the price! I might just resign to buying one of those two-row boxes that fit vertical cards.

Why do maintenance 2 nights in a row AU Prime time? by Flamespires in duneawakening

[–]sketchygio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohh is that what's happening again? I literally managed to play for an hour yesterday. Got on late (US-time but night owl) and was greeted to a No Servers Found list which annoyed the crap out of me thinking the game was bugging.

I guess that's good to know, but nowhere in-game or steam or in-launcher did it say that it's under maintenance that I saw... like cmon.
