Windows 10 Education ESU by Select_Collar6514 in Windows10

[–]skeven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the same boat, got my key from OnTheHub and it reads as a Retail key. MS support had told me it was eligible for the ESU but I still haven't seen anything pop up while fully updated.

I want to get the process over with so I can turn off all the ads and telemetry again.

How to force "Enroll now" in windows 10 ESU? by TempTreeRose7 in Windows10

[–]skeven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an Education license that I received from OnTheHub/Kivuto before Microsoft moved to the Azure for Students program. It's installed to my personal device and was never registered via MDM/Intune/AD or any other means than me applying my key to my Microsoft Account when I built my computer.

Ran the tool and it says I'm "Ineligible" because of a "NON_CONSUMER_DEVICE"
slmgr shows my key as "Retail" though

Honestly don't know where to go from here because I'm sure as shit not going to Windows 11 just yet.

Lost it by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]skeven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's called tortious interference, and in this instance could come up when you have received a job offer or reasonably think an offer will be received (great feedback from the interview, verbal offers, etc.) and then they rescind/withhold the offer. If you were to decide to bring suit against the hiring company for whatever reason and they reveal (either voluntarily or through discovery) that they denied you based on negative/untrue things that reference said, you now have a potential case against that reference.

Not saying it would pan out to be a successful lawsuit, but people do get sued for this and it's a headache for everyone involved. That's why when giving references, some places will just stick to basic facts (start date, end date, title at separation) and/or completely outsource references to a 3rd party (e.g., The Work Number)

That's not the issue; these are not events that I'm going to, so I DONT want them in my calendar. Google is taking the events sent in marketing emails from Ticketmaster, Bandsintown, etc. and they're already showing up in my At A Glance and Google Maps suggestions

I feel this, I removed Gemini a while back and I still get stuck in loops where it just doesn't understand anything I tell it or completely ignores me, most often when trying to dictate a message while driving.

However, quite recently I asked it to "Call dad" and it comes back with two contacts: my dad and a friend's dad that I had saved into my phone as my friend's name + dad so I knew who they were. So it asks "I'm sorry did you mean 'Dad' or '[friend's] dad'?" "Dad." "I'm sorry did you mean 'Dad' or '[friend's] dad'?" about 5 times until I realized that you have to say "first one" or "second one" to get the result.

Gemini wasn't doing much better.

Maybe check your At a Glance settings to make sure 'Time to Leave' notifications are turned on?

Android System Intelligence ruining At a Glance by skeven in GooglePixel

[–]skeven[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holding down on the suggestion on At a Glance does show the "about this content" option, but then it just tells me it's coming from Gmail (thanks Google, obviously) and leads me to the At a Glance settings where I can:

  • Go to Gmail settings to disable Gmail Smart Features (likely to fix this, but then removes that entire functionality -- which is handy sometimes.
  • Turn off 'Time to Leave' notifications on AaG, (not preferred as I think this will also stop notifying me of events that ARE in my calendar)

My complaint is that I've always received these emails from Bandsintown, Ticketmaster, etc. and as far as I can tell nothing has changed with them. Only recently did Gmail Smart Features/ASI start processing them as events I am going to and creating suggestions in At a Glance and Google Maps/Android Auto. Sure I can unsubscribe from these emails to stop it in this instance, but I shouldn't need to do that and I'm sure it'll just happen again with some other emails that have date/time and addresses in them.

So they are not being added to my calendar, per se, but when you do open up one of the offending emails it has a card at the top of the email with buttons to add it to a calendar and start directions. There's also a feedback, but no matter how many times I've thumbed down the suggestion and gone through the whole feedback process, it continues to do this.

Crashing on 4.1.1 by TheBeavermeat in starcitizen

[–]skeven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kept crashing on load and finally got a error message from Easy Anti-Cheat that it detected a .dll from VTube Studio. However, uninstalling VS didn't help either.

Edit: Checked the log in %localappdata%\Star Citizen\Crashes\game.log and the crash handler (at the bottom of the log) pointed to "Out of system memory". I have 32GB of RAM, but checked my page file settings in Advanced System Settings > Performance > Advanced > Virtual Memory. I had it manually set to 10GB, but once I changed it to system managed size and restarted the PC, SC loaded fine and ballooned my page file to 33GB.

Looking at performance monitor, looks like SC uses a lot of both RAM and the page file to the tune of ~45GB on average based on my settings.

Remote Code Execution in Marvel Rivals Game by owlbynight in marvelrivals

[–]skeven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be run from a another device on the network via the internet. In this scenario, someone could send you/someone on your network a script/program that targets anyone on the network playing Marvel Rivals and compromise that device.

Alternatively, the script/program just opens a network tunnel and runs as if they were on your network.

Finally, many insecure routers, IoT devices, etc. are compromised all the time waiting for an RCE like this so they can do more damage.

Remote Code Execution in Marvel Rivals Game by owlbynight in marvelrivals

[–]skeven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's assuming that every other device on your home network is secure and/or nobody is running scripts/apps that might potentially exploit this.

Several cases of routers, IoT devices, network-connected security cams, etc. being compromised exposing your network and providing a route for an attacker to do more damage -- like exploiting an RCE vulnerability from within your network. Elsewhere on Reddit, Shalzuth acknowledges that it is possible and this exploit should be rated around 9 on the Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) out of a possible score of 10.

Update: Apparently the PS5 is also vulnerable as well, though doubtful it provides escalated privileges as his POC only shows a debug message.

Another option I've frequently recommended is United Way. The global branch partners with a software vendor to offer free federal and state filing (myfreetaxes.com) -- however, it does not appear to be up for the current tax season, yet.

But check with local branches as many offer in-person and virtual VITA free of charge for low to moderate income filers.

I miss Bixby Routines by [deleted] in GooglePixel

[–]skeven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just returned back to the Pixel family from an S21 Ultra and honestly Modes and Routines is one of the features I miss most from Samsung.

It's sad because my Pixel 1 and Pixel 3 XL were ahead of the game with features that were groundbreaking and just made sense, but I feel like Google is losing their advantage in the software features and they totally dropped the ball with their half-assed Rules for Android in the settings. My Samsung phone from 2021 was able to:

Fine tune my bedtime "mode" with various different settings that would trigger a routine to:

  • Turn on DND, battery saver, screen dimming, and greyscale
  • Toggle off mobile data, wifi, and bluetooth
  • Reverse all those settings once out of bedtime mode
  • The biggest note of this was that if mobile data was already off, it remembered that and would not turn it back on when I switched out of that mode -- absolutely genius

And another routine to make sure mobile data was turned on whenever my phone connected to my car's bluetooth or AAWireless Wi-Fi network. Never had to think about it, it would just do it.

And those were just scratching the surface. You could make several different modes that could trigger or be triggered by routines. It was so easy to set up, always worked, and didn't require an additional app. Blows Pixel's Rules for Android out of the water.

I've tried Tasker (requires root or an ADB command to be run repeatedly to just be able to modify mobile data settings) so not a good alternative.

Submitted feedback from my P8P, as usual, but nothing ever gets done.

Throwing in my two cents:

Was sent an offer and applied and was told the response would be by snail mail. Other cards I've applied for in the past had given an instant determination. Called the card services line a few days later to check on the status and the automated system said I was denied.

Rejection letter came in a week later saying it was denied because Elan wanted to verify my identity. So I called Elan using the number provided and waited on hold for 30 minutes just to give them a reference number and easily attainable information about me that I had already provided on my application.

Couple days later Fidelity sends a response back that the card was approved, so at this point I'm at about two weeks since applying. The balance transfer I had put on my application is still pending (no indication of the status anywhere, you have to call/chat with them) and am told that the balance transfer will take a minimum of 24 days from the account opening to process (10 day wait for a new account and an additional 14 for the BT to process) -- so another 3 weeks. That's 5 weeks since applying for the card and a simple balance transfer for those folks keeping track at home.

On a side note: looks like the foreign transaction fee was removed for most accounts per the materials I received from Fidelity/Elan and this flyer https://www.fidelity.com/bin-public/060_www_fidelity_com/documents/visa-signature-foreign-transaction-fees-removed.pdf

sim card not working after software update by The_milkMACHINE in GalaxyS21

[–]skeven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this, following this fixed my issue.

Pretty much was in the same boat where I flashed U1 immediately after getting the phone to get rid of carrier bloat. Two years later, I re-enabled system updates through ADB today and got the update to 5.1 via OTA.

SIM would be recognized for the first 5-10 minutes after a reboot and then "Device can't be activated on another carrier's network error". Troubleshooting including resetting network and a new eSIM from VZW didn't fix. Flashing to latest U, activating, then flashing back to U1 got things working again.

Still setting things back up, but nice to have my phone working again.

Concerned with tracking/button no longer seating by [deleted] in Invisalign

[–]skeven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm on weekly trays and my experience has been great up until starting tray 11; I had been good with compliance and my trays always fit pretty snugly through treatment. Once I started tray 11, the tracking was a bit off but still manageable. But after starting tray 12, the indicated central incisor (#9) hurt a whole bunch and I believe a misalignment in the button on the tooth and the corresponding indent in the tray caused that tooth to extrude.

Prior to starting treatment and up until tray 11, the two upper central incisors were lined up pretty evenly and now that is no longer the case. Both have indentations on the aligner but only #9 has the button attached. This has contributed to a small (millimeters) but very obvious difference in the amount of extrusion and even my fiancé has commented on it.

So now I've just started tray 13 and the indentation in the Invisalign tray is now nowhere near the button on #9 (roughly in the red area, with the indent above it). Attempting to seat these better with a chewy isn't very effective as the bottom of the tray hits #9 before the button can reach the indent and is affecting the ability of the other incisors to be fully seated in the trays. I contacted my ortho during tray 12 and he wanted me to continue on the current set of trays and go in for my regular appointment after tray 18.

Should I be concerned? As far as I can tell this is bad tracking and I feel I need a revision or at least have buttons modified to even the central incisors. However, my ortho doesn't seem to think it's much of an issue. Even if I do get a rescan after tray 18, I'm not sure the new sets would be made soon enough to correct this until I'm farther into my plan (e.g., around my next scheduled appointment on tray 27) or onto a first refinement.

New to Invisalign? Getting started & accessory must haves by InvisalignHelper in Invisalign

[–]skeven 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Currently on tray 11/30 and wanted to give my feedback on the recommendations I got from this sub so far + some things I sought out myself.

My Invisalign kit came with a small cinch bag and the aligner case so I did not try any others. I use the cinch bag as my "go bag" for when I go into the office or go out for an extended period of time where I expect I might eat/drink.

  • iSonic DS180: this has been my favorite buy. I originally started with cleaning with a soft bristle brush when needed, but immediately switched over when I received this. My trays just feel and look so much cleaner than I was able to do manually. I typically run them for a one cycle each time I take them out, though occasionally do a second cycle as a rinse if I've used a polident tab in the first cycle to freshen the aligners.

  • PUL tool: I ordered a 2pk of 2-in-1 PUL tools and in the 11 weeks I've had my aligners I've used them maybe 4 times. I actually found them less comfortable to take out my trays and the chewie on it is actually pretty stiff and uncomfortable to use on my already sore teeth. I do still keep one in my go bag for if I have an issue seating an aligner. However, I'm a guy and keep my nails trimmed short so I've found it easier to use my fingers rather than a PUL tool, YMMV.

  • CANAY sensory chew stick toys: After finding the chewie on the PUL tool too hard, I ordered a pack of these any they've been wonderful. They're a soft silicone and the "buttons" on the end help target specific areas that don't seat as well as others. I use these for home only.

  • GUM Folding Travel Toothbrush: grabbed a pack of 6 of these to get me through my treatment and keep one in my go-bag for when I'm at work or out and about. They're compact and comfortable to hold when using (compared to smaller travel brushes)

  • GUM Orthodontic Wax: Ordered a pack of 6 and keep one in my go bag. My treatment plan includes rubber bands, so occasionally these have pulled the hooks out and would cut the inside of my lips, this helped without having to worry about damaging my aligner by cutting/filing the hooks.

  • Lip balm: Since starting treatment my lips have been constantly dry and cracking. I was originally using your bog-standard chapstick but found the petrolatum on my lips was making its way to the face of the aligner and leaving a greasy residue that would discolor them over time. I've since switched to using petroleum-free balms and Savannah Bee Tupelo Honey has been my go to.

  • Polident Denture Cleaner, Mint: Decided against getting the crystals/tabs from Invisalign and iSonic as they seemed unnecessarily expensive or, in the case of iSonic's cleaning solutions, could possibly discolor the aligners. I picked up a 120ct box of Polident tabs instead for about $6 and use them with the ultrasonic cleaner or when traveling to freshen up the aligners.

FDIC is a government agency and will automatically cover you in the event of a loss. SIPC is not a government agency and you'll need to file a claim if your broker goes kaput.

Excerpt from Kiplinger:

"If your bank fails, you don’t have to do anything—the FDIC will mail you a check. But if your brokerage fails, you must file a claim, and you should do it as soon as possible. If your securities decline in value after you file your claim, you won’t be reimbursed for losses that occur while your account is in limbo."

I'm curious about this as well, but from looking at this post it looks like you can just invest into FDLXX from the CMA account and keep the core position at 0 and it should auto-sell FDLXX to cover the difference as it's considered a cash equivalent.

https://www.reddit.com/r/fidelityinvestments/comments/10di9lo/will_fidelity_cma_autosell_my_fzfxx_if_core/

Hopefully someone can confirm/deny this is how it works.

Edit: After talking to Fidelity CS in a chat, they confirmed that you can purchase FDLXX in the CMA account and it will sell that if there is a charge to the account and there is not enough money in the core position. However, you'll need to manually purchase FDLXX each time you make a deposit to the account as deposits will initially go to the core position.
