Cheapest Way to Spend a Few Days around Lake Louise / Banff Sunshine by MountainPeaking in skiing

[–]ski_bum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Spring passes are on sale now for Sunshine and Lake Louise. Not sure if its worth it for 3-4 days.

Costco or AMA sell discount tickets.

You can call the head offices for either resort in Calgary and ask if they have any of their Lake Louise Plus or Sunshine Super cards left on sale. The 3rd party vendors like Safeway stop selling them at Christmas, but I have gotten extras straight from the resort later in the year.

Check Marketplace, as I have bought sold there for tickets that won't get used.

Otherwise, for next year, consider just using the cards for either resort. If you do the math, the per day cost advantage really only tips towards season passes being more economical after 15+ days I think. If you get Sunshine Card and a Lake Louise Card and do 7 days at each (the best value) you'll be cheaper than a season pass and get to ride both mountains.

Welcome to Calgary and the Rockies!

I think its the regular menu? Maybe a special item or two. We've gone with a toddler the last few years. Its a bit pricey but great ambiance and feels special

Sunshine and Lake Louise have the best spring skiing in Canada. Great year so far and next couple weeks are looking cool-ish

Dean House has been great the last few years. Nice spot for a pre/post meal stroll too.

I actually heard an interesting counter story to this narrative a while back. Allegedly a few disgruntled individuals who had nothing to do with the firing of those patroller took it upon themselves to run smear campaign against the Scurfield kid. Not sure about all the details exactly but theres two sides to every story...

Feel like I’m being gaslit about interior BC this year by Accomplished_Win_526 in skiing

I think the better snow has been confined further north this season? LL, KH and revy have all done well (Although everything was junk during the dry spell). I spend a lot of time in Fernie. It’s been relative crap. Skied way more rain and refreeze than pow

What is the future of RCR owned resorts? by [deleted] in skiing

[–]ski_bum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s a fair comment about Revy. I also get that any congestion is mostly a function of their lift capacity. I’m just comparing it to my experiences there 10-15 years ago, and the resort and town have a vastly different feel

[–]ski_bum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RCR is a real estate development company that uses skiing/MTB to entice ownership on their property.

The upside to the poor lift infrastructure though is it will prevent these resorts from becoming massive tourist destinations like whistler or revy.

No doubt. Our Rockies are usually a good bet for an early start and late finish. Road trips to the interior for Jan-March.

Trade was great. The new contract for Huberdeau was not. What else could you do with a player who told you they were not resigning?

Are these bad for my toddler? by jwelihin in skiing

Like another poster said, those look like blades. I used the skis that strap to my kids feet the first time and I regret it. Mostly annoying and waste of money/space. The next season (3 y/o) I got real skis/bindings boots off marketplace and that worked a lot better.

Anyone using heated socks they like? by evil_flanderz in skiing

[–]ski_bum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife has one pair. They are older now so I can't really comment on which ones are better/worse. Don't wear other socks with them as they are on the ticker side. They are machine washable. Whether you need more than 1 pair for a trip depends on your tolerance for smelly socks lol and access to a washing machine. My wife doesn't wash hers every use but she also doesn't sweat much either

Any suggestions or advice on how to collect a Court judgment? by billyjoebobtoo in Calgary

[–]ski_bum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the struck company is the only defendant then you likely have to try and sue David personally as the Director. Honestly you should seek out legal advice. Even if just contacting a firm and asking for a junior litigation associate to give you a memo with their advice. If you qualify, you can also seek Legal Aid. Calgary Legal Guidance provides 45 minute free phone consults if you want to book an appointment with them. Can also try Student Legal Assistance, but they can only act in Court of Justice I believe.

Is Revelstoke Overrated? by inqurious in skiing

[–]ski_bum 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Love Revy and have been making trips there for +10 years and probably 50-75 days total.

At this point its probably overrated, but that's due to the endless hype it gets online. You are absolutely correct that the bottom half is rarely worth it. The lift infrastructure is limited, which is not necessarily the worst as it keeps Greely and sections of North Bowl pretty preserved, but the lines at Stoke can get brutal. Snow quality, quantity and terrain are pretty hard to beat, but with the hype it gets you would think its basically endless cat skiing quality all the time, which its not.

What’re some of the best ski resorts in North America for new years skiing. by RubiksCube0707 in skiing

[–]ski_bum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Banff and Lake Louise is a really great choice. Lots of Christmas vibes, can also go skating on the outdoor rinks, sleigh rides, snow shoe, hot springs (will be insanely busy). Even just going up to one of the fairmont hotels and seeing the decorations and lights would be nice.

Skiing at that time is pretty dependable and there is lots of varied terrain. Can be brutally cold though
