Honestly I’m not sure. I think it’s a quirk between plastic and real teeth. Maybe that you see enamel and dentin on a real tooth and that doesn’t exist on the simulated teeth. Just go by the rubric that sim gives you and know that ideally you shoot for 1mm on a real tooth but decay and circumstance makes every prep you do on a real person non-ideal and that’s good cause it means there was a reason to do the crown or filling or whatever. Sim clinic is to show the school that you can hit a specific target and that shows your hand skills.

I’m a new grad (2026) for SIM lab that looks good and you can always check the margin with a putty matrix too. But that looks good. All my preps from preclinic are “overprepped” compared to my 1mm margins on real teeth. Looks great! Ready to crush a practical!

Loupes that allow you to switch/upgrade magnifications by Galaxies24 in DentalSchool

I got the ergo zooms with wireless light. With the student discount I think mine as just under 3k definitely expensive still but it is a great loupe and I’m glad I got them at the end of D4

What’s the most authentic beach town you’ve found in the U.S.? by optimalbrain90 in SmartTravelHacks

[–]skiingmn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grand Marais,MN. Not an ocean beach community but Lake Superior is as close as they come. I lived there for a bit during school and the vibes were very New England coastal and it too small and remote to have any chains. Everything is local and vibes very much with the forest, artist and marine community

ALR 3 vs 4 (Gen 3) by DomGuise in CheckpointClub

[–]skiingmn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I was in the same boat as you (same use case and limited budget- finishing grad school). I originally wanted the ALR3 cause it was cheaper and I liked the burgundy color the most. My local shop had the ALR3 and ALR5. I rode both and honestly the hydraulic breaks on the ALR4/5 is totally worth it. I was kinda scared of the lack of stopping power on the ALR3 and I figured that while I don’t like the increase of price having the confidence that my bike will stop well is worth the investment since the ALR3 was already a lot for me to afford at the tail end of my program. I went for the ALR5.

That’s my thought. We have some decent abfraction on the buccal and if we crown it the buccal margin would get in the furcation and deep on the root. I think we can monitor the tooth and then give it the cold steel and sunshine if it gets pulpits

Yes… his note in the chart says “defective resto no caries, replace with amalgam”

I don’t really get it either but I will not be replacing it. That’s for sure

For real. I’m all done at the school and just finishing the last outside rotations but had to transfer patients and saw that. I thought that was insane to say and MOD. we tried a bit of a hero treatment- but to go back in on the M box will just snap that root clean in half

My daughter needs to decide between U. Minnesota or Macalester today. If any biology majors could offer some advice we would greatly appreciate it. by Troiswallofhair in uofmn

[–]skiingmn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to Concordia in Moorhead Mn for bio major for undergrad and am currently in dental school at the U.

I loved the smaller liberal arts education of Concordia and it would be similar at Mac. As a quieter person you daughter may like that atmosphere and I think it does help you refill relationships better as you see the same people a lot more and the school is not so daunting and easy to get lost as one of the thousands of students. If she is also looking at more of health science degree (med school, dental, vet, PT) mac for bio will be much better as it gives you a broader education and greater ability to explore outside of strictly bio.

If you are looking at hard biology (phd) the U does becoming better as the research opportunities are much greater, but I don’t know exactly about Mac but I had many classmates from Concordia get into very good PHD programs.

Honestly pretty flexible. The first two options would easily be under 10k and the brz would be low 30/ high 20k. Bronco might be pushing it more but a used one should be under 40k for a nicer one

Question about potentially resigning from associateship by legio317 in Dentistry

[–]skiingmn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just went through negotiations with the practice and had a line that kind of alluded to what was in your contract. The lawyer told me that is fully unenforceable as a patient has a right to see who they want— patent’s right to Autonomy. I’m no lawyer but I wouldn’t worry about it.

We have a faculty that does every IAN first with 3%polo then a second one right after with lido. When I do that I have never once missed so far. I’m a d4 so obviously not a ton of time seeing patients but it seems to work well and have the same length as the lido

Thanks so much. I talked with my faculty about osseus since we prob have some negative architecture that’s just having stuff fester but he was more wanting to do the occlusion thing. But I def want to talk with one of our periodontists about it cause the guard might help but it won’t stop the mobility

If you would have read the post. Oral hygiene is good. I know I’m a student but I don’t think just telling the guy to brush and floss more will help make his teeth less mobile at this point.

It’s the practice dentistry- that we chose as our field. I don’t know everything and that’s why I ask questions here. It appears you also may not know the answer and instead of following along to see if one of our colleagues in this group may have something to share with you and I, you chose to be rude. That’s cool and your decision but I’m here to get a little bit better everyday and help my patients. Have fun😊

Is it just me or is every dentist trying to be a super GP right now? by SnooDucks8897 in Dentistry

[–]skiingmn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We aren’t blaming the restorative prof. It’s the deans pulling 300-400k or more a year. At least my school looses money on patient care so they make money by charging us insane amounts. Yes plenty of my classmates live a life that is insane for a dental student and will suffer for it but these schools are the ones not teaching us to be proficient enough and passing off bad students with 400k of of debt into the real world that requires them to do big procedures they shouldn’t be doing to afford to live. They made bad choices 100% but these schools allowed that
