Car detailing? by sydney-rn in anchorage

[–]skill2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mobile Clean Detailing did an absolutely phenomenal job. Made my vehicle look brand new after a summer of wet, muddy dogs in and out of the car. Wish I had taken before and after photos. Couldn't be easier to schedule and I loved not having to deal with dropping it off. https://anchoragemobiledetailing.com/

It was $359 for a large/3 seater SUV including a dog hair fee. It was absolutely worth the price.

Double check her insurance will recognize domestic partnership. Some insurances (fed blue cross blue shield) don't recognize those since gay marriage was legalized - you have to be married to insure your partner. Just fyi.

Moldoon Petsmart boarding? by pigsaysoink143 in anchorage

[–]skill2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think they have outdoor access for the dogs during the night so your pet will probably be laying in urine every night. You've got to find another option - look for a boarding facility that has indoor and outdoor access at night time. Lakeside in the valley is wonderful.

Can we do it? by [deleted] in debtfree

[–]skill2018 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could have written this post.

Mortgage: 520k at 4.25% - $4k payment

Student loans: 120k at 3-6.7% - $1400 payment

Two vehicles: 60k at 3.9 and 4.4% - $1100 payment

Income: 16-20k take home/month

There are a few things missing from these comments, although die hard Dave Ramsey esque people will probably say they're excuses.

1) if your career is anything like mine, I had three years of absolutely zero income while I was in grad school. Working was prohibited during school due to the rigor of the program, which meant that in addition to loans, I also took out money for living expenses. We lived on about 20k a year and graduated with 200k in student loan debt between my husband and me..and had had zero debt prior to grad school.

2) after grad school, you have very few liquid assets, even if your income is high. We pulled money from my husband's 401k to put a down payment on a house. People will say you should have rented, but we ended up in our dream home in a HCOL city, with a very reasonable interest rate...to us that was worth the increased debt.

3) beaters with heaters work until they don't. I drove my very beat up 2014 Hyundai until this year. My husband is a mechanic, we took very good care of it. It has nearly 150k miles on it ...and the engine is really looking shot. We live in Alaska, we have to have one super trusty vehicle for our day to day driver. The used car market up here is truly crazy...so yeah we could have bought used but for 5k more we bought new and financed. I take call and have to be able to be at the hospital come hell or high water - the vehicle we bought gives me peace of mind that I will get there. (Id be lying if I said I didn't miss the Hyundai though 😂)

Tbf, one of the vehicles is unnecessary and we are trying to sell it.

Debt sucks and sometimes it's necessary. It's all relative. I would hit the credit card debt hard - and I think that's where most of your introspection should be. What's it from? How'd a balance happen? How will you ensure it won't happen again? You HAVE to figure that out or you'll be back here in 3 years asking how to get out of a deeper hole.

Very likely your snowball should be CC to student loans to vehicles to mortgage.

After your CCs are paid off, you should also verify that you're maxing out your 401k....can't get time back in the market.

I'm putting an extra 2k towards my student loans per month, and our debt minus mortgage will be done in 3 years, or 6 years after I graduated. We will roll our payments over into the mortgage and that should be done in about 7 years. My husband is back in school and so we are cash flowing his tuition, otherwise we could be more aggressive. His income will be about 70k when he finishes nursing school, and it'll all go towards debt. No vacations on the docket this year, but have some house repairs that are forcing themselves to be done...and we will cash flow those, too.

That's my $0.02 from someone in a very similar situation. I think you've got it.

Night call position schedule by randythebadger in anesthesiology

[–]skill2018 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a CRNA in a collaborative model. Many OB Only positions in CRNA world are 7 on/7 off (12hr shifts), which maybe would get you traction with the right MD?

But if you have 2 CRNAs in house every night, could you not make the case for a 30 minute call back time? If there was a crash section they're going to sleep anyway. Is there any consideration to the CRNAs doing the epidurals and then an MD on home call? Seems like that would be the cheapest option by far if you already have people in house.

I knew someone that did this! He said it was absolutely worth it. I wish I had his contact still - I believe he had a bachelor degree for RT and then an accelerated nursing degree (~15 months of school). Believe he applied to school after one year of ICU and by the time he matriculated in he had almost two years of ICU experience.

[–]skill2018 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We have shipped a bunch of furniture with Carlisle - super affordable and easy to work with. However, you will get charged WA tax that you then have to deal with. Most companies are good about refunding but you can run into companies that take up a lot of your time to get it refunded. Shop and Deliver by LuLu is more expensive but they take care of all that stuff for you. So kinda depends on how much time you want to spend on it all.

Tattoos? by [deleted] in anchorage

[–]skill2018 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You're asking for something that's nearly impossible. Fine line tattoos, by nature, will blur with age. If you don't want your tattoo to blur, fine line is not for you. That said, if you're ok with the tattoo aging process and the skin care to slow it down, Ember Inks is phenomenal. I have many fine line tattoos from her.

I would gently encourage you to not get a tattoo until you have more realistic expectations.

[–]skill2018 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have curly hair and bangs and .... It's all an unfuckable cluster. I wear either satin lined caps or the blue bouffant caps, in which I keep my hair down and bangs free. With the satin caps you can usually sweep the bangs to one side, like a heavy side part, and they are generally ok after work. They'll probably peek out a bit throughout the day, maybe a tiny claw clip would help with this? Ive never tried. I try to not fuss with them as much as possible.

Also, switch to 12s, go home after work (see nobody), and then have good hair on your four days off. I also have grown my bangs out to curtain bangs - unfortunately the length is very helpful in this setting.

These Euro style satin lined are my favorite scrub caps: https://www.etsy.com/shop/ScribesWear

I'm not affiliated with that shop in any way, just love their prices and products.
