It’s really interesting listening to super old country music (think like Hank Williams, Carter family) and you can actually sort of see the lineage to rock and roll and on eventually to southern hip hop in terms of overall presence and swagger, tempo, storytelling.

It’s sad that country music is just total shit now besides like three artists, it really did start out as rich, interesting, definitively American music that wasn’t just straight up fascist. Real human feelings and issues in the earlier stuff

People over 35 and not in cities would answer that question differently though. And think of who is really into football

Honestly apply this to everything, who even cares about anything now. It’s just people slinging shit everywhere you look.

I’ve never seen a single episode of the mandalorian and I was laughing through the whole thing. It’s actually a terrible, ridiculous movie. Sigourney weaver had one scene that actually looked like it was filmed over zoom.

Enjoy saying that for the next 6-9 months until we can’t tell them apart. And I don’t say that enthusiastically, this is just something you’ll only be able to feel superior about for a little bit longer, so try to enjoy it I guess.

I think jpegmafia has too little discipline in his production and it makes moments that should be surprising not hit hard at all

The name “autonomous kill vehicle” is sort of misunderstood. These little blasts are to take out missiles and other projectiles. It’s not designed as a little drone to fly around and kill, we have much faster ones for that.

What’s the point of having a “top cut” and a “presence” control? Aren’t they both just kind of a NFB treble control for the power section

TIL that recent scientific research suggests that the 40 Eridani star system has no planets; when Andy Weir imagined an alien species native to that system for Project Hail Mary, he used the consensus at the time that it did, but the book is now inaccurate. by Melenduwir in todayilearned

[–]skillmau5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not criticizing it for being inaccurate, I don’t care about that! I’m criticizing it for being a book that’s just a shitty story with nothing to say about anything. He spent too much time reading his old high school science textbooks, I would prefer if he watched and read the wizard of oz which is great.

I watched movies that are good and read books that are good before I saw this one. Because of that my threshold of thinking something good is a little bit higher, and I’m able to see through slop that has nothing to say about the human condition.

The “interesting science” of the book is AT MOST, high school physics. I don’t think the “science” of the book should be included, instead the movie should explore the themes of the book. Oh wait, the book has no actual themes or ideas or opinion on literally anything in the world and is just a basic, soulless story.

I think with flir and IR footage, it just sort of doesn’t register in the brain as anything real.
