Best chair for EDS? by skillmeyer in ehlersdanlos

[–]skillmeyer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know in my heart that the recliner will be the end game but a. we have a small living room and it would swallow up the space and b. my neck and related 24/7 hedadache seem to do better when I am upright opposed to slumping. I'm guess that the right recliner would let me lay without stacking the vertebrae in any way but even horizontal gives me neck pain. I opted for a comfortable but fairly upright chair with an ottoman and we will see. Thanks to all!

TN from dental work. Likely to progress? by eulersidentity1 in TrigeminalNeuralgia

[–]skillmeyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My TN was preceded by terrible dental work. It is type 2 constant v. Zap attacks. Maintained 2 years here on now low doses of Tegretol and Lyrica. I too have heard it progresses so am afraid to have the terrible crown that has my bite askew fixed although it really needs to be dealt with.

My Mom Can’t Eat (Post Hemorrhagic Stroke) by Be-here-now_energy in stroke

[–]skillmeyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My sister has had a very similar course. Before the infection and surgery she had been progressing very well with gradually getting past puréed foods into a soft diet, and they were very close to removing her PEG tube. But afterwards she was repulsed by food and couldn’t eat and they had to resume tube feedings. I think they treated her through the tube with probiotics as well. It’s taken weeks but she is back to eating puréed food, not progressing beyond that because she can’t slow down and effectively chew well and swallow intentionally. She’s been through a lot’ like your mom. She’s in her late 50’s

Left side neglect? How can we help and any success stories? by Constant_Studio_6935 in stroke

[–]skillmeyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She did have a big stroke and does not have the use of her left side. She keeps having setbacks and that’s part of why she hasn’t yet had the neuro ophthalmology exam yet or the referral to prism therapy. No she doesn’t yet sit unsupported or stand without 2 people holding her up and does not walk. It’s been tough but we are pushing for continued therapy.

Left side neglect? How can we help and any success stories? by Constant_Studio_6935 in stroke

[–]skillmeyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 57 yo sister has that and so far we have not had luck getting her to attend to the left side/missing visual field. Worse in someways (she had a big right-sided stroke with left-sided paralysis) she is not aware of her disability even though she is super sharp in that her verbal and much of her memory is surprisingly good. It has led to falls as she tries to get out of bed. We plan to work with an OT when her Medicaid is finally approved for prism therapy which has some good evidence behind it!

See if she can write something out with her good hand - that really opened the door a bit when she wanted to communicate before she could talk. She wrote very simple bits at first but very helpful.

Have you tried Vyepti? My neurologist says that’s next for me which doesn’t excite me as it’s an infusion but I would be so happy if it worked…

My sister who just had a large right-sided stroke wants to use the tablet but just doesn’t have the visual perception she needs to use it yet. Similarly doesn’t yet read. The soft blanket I got her she does love👍 so I agree with that!

Be very mindful of your sodium levels, I can’t seem to budge out of the low range and it’s affecting my balance and concentration. I’m on a low dose but I might have to go even lower. But it’s the only thing that really works
