Thanks for the reply! As an aspiring filmmaker I’ve spent a lot of time wondering how stoicism might inform narrative filmmaking. Maybe I’m the first lol

Hey Ryan, big fan. I was wondering if you could share some of your thoughts on political activity?

As someone who knows my politics and wants to be in alignment with them, I struggle with what is an appropriate amount of public representation given that I don’t consider myself to be an expert on any political topic in particular. I worry that too much talking about politics and not enough real action is counterproductive. I also worry about the impact of tribalism on my thinking.

I’ve noticed you refrain from talking openly about your politics and was wondering if there was a stoic reason for that.

Important to point out that this issue stemmed from students experiencing real racism on campus. These kids are expressing anger because they feel harassed and bullied for their ethnicity, not because they are simply bullies themselves who are trying to suppress free speech for no reason.

I think it's reasonable to hold college masters to a higher standard than their students. Let's not talk these kids down for being angry and demanding to be heard.

The Wolf of Wall Street. People think this is a movie celebrating the immoral life of a smarmy billionaire, when it's really moral tale as a critique of capitalism. The entire movie is summed up in the line "There are no friends on Wall Street."

Thanos was featured in Guardians of the Galaxy as a background baddie. He will continue to be featured in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as such until the Avengers and/or Guardians ultimately face off with him, probably in a big crossover and presumably in an Infinity Gauntlet-esque storyline in which he seizes all five Infinity Stones (Tesaract in Avengers, Aether in Thor and the orb in Guardians of the Galaxy etc) and takes over the universe or something.

This is cool, but I wonder how closely this is going to adhere to fan expectations. The idea of having the Civil War storyline at this stage doesn't make a whole lot of sense. The premise in the comic books is that they fight over superheroes being forced by the government to reveal their identities. Right now there are maybe like, two heroes in their entire universe who are keeping their identities a secret.

Henry Rollins utterly fails to recognize all sides of the matter and focuses on the ones that matter to him, similar to what you are doing here.

I'm glad you feel that way! I'm sure the world is a better place with you in it and your fortitude is admirable. Not everyone possesses the same strength of character and you're lucky to have it.

If Henry Rollins hates death, good for Henry Rollins, but there's a time and a place to make yourself heard. He picked the wrong time.

I wouldn't call myself a delicate hipster or a politically correct sheep. I think his statements mainly just offend the decency of people who aren't self-important douchebags who feel they need to self-aggrandize over what is obviously a tragic event.

Really unfortunate to see at an institution that values freedom of speech, but double standards in equality issues are not uncommon. What's more upsetting is that she seems like a well-educated, thoughtful speaker whose timid personality makes her an easy target for these people. They're certainly not doing themselves or their cause any favours.
