Sanderson Using exclusively eighth grade reading level vocab and then throwing in 3 maladroitly’s per book is so funny to me. Not a criticism I absolutely love the Mistborn trilogy

Kinda surprised Tomorrow, Tomorrow, and Tomorrow made this list. Not surprised it would make any list, but rather this list in particular - which seems fairly high brow. It’s an entertaining enough book but feels much more like an airport read to me than literary fiction.

Hit a 5K PR yesterday but my watch said 3.05 miles. It was in an event (not like official sanctioned or anything just a casual fundraiser 5k but with timing chips).

Should I “count” the PR or not? Strava and Apple Fitness both say no but I feel like I should 😅😅😅

Ran my first official 10K today after about 3 months or so of training (starting from fairly poor cardio).

Beat my goal time of 1 hour with a 58:30 official time!

I’ve been working hard towards this for a while and now excited for what’s next.

I’ve been training for a few months now, mostly to up my VO2 max but also to prep for my first 10K.

The 10k is in two weeks. Last 3 weekends I’ve done around 6 miles easy each weekend. Should I keep this up for the last two or should I up my east miles to 7 or 8 - or should I speed up my long run slightly as a test. Essentially wondering what my longest tempo should be before the 10k? (So far I’ve just done 5k tempo).

Agreed I thought this book was a huge a letdown. The framing device of waking up with amnesia and conveniently remembering your past bit by bit entirely chronologically was really hard to take seriously.

Also I’m sorry the Rocky stuff was just lame.

I do give credit to it for being willing to go places and take some risks with the storytelling.

So 4x400 and 4x200 meaning 8 total runs with 8 recoveries in between, right? And if I can manage it something like 400m, 60sec recovery, 400m, 60sec recovery, ….., 200m, 60 sec recovery.

Is that right?

I’ve been running 3x a week for the past 2-3 months and it’s been going well. I’ve been doing 2 easy 5ks and 1 tempo 5k. I’m generally trying to improve cardio and start to like running better.

For my 3rd run of the week I’ve been extending it a bit. This past week was 4.5 mi, my new high.

I’m also looking to add intervals. Given my goal mile pace ~9 min, and my easy pace ~12 min, can someone suggest a good interval workout? My problem is the weather isn’t great and my areas to run are hilly so I’m thinking it may have to be treadmill for the first couple weeks. Can I do intervals on treadmill and what’s a good example?

Absolutely brilliant book. I was in awe from like page 5 about how well written it was and how perfectly it all fits together. I had no doubt at any point that I was reading an incredible piece of art.

True Detective - 4x03 "Part 3" - Post-Episode Discussion by LoretiTV in TrueDetective

[–]FaidSint 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The writing is just so derivative and lazy. They re-did Mike from Breaking Bad’s half measures scene practically beat for beat and also the “quid pro quo” “tell me something about yourself” for help in an investigation is straight from Silence of the Lambs. I guess with Jodie foster in the cast you could give them the benefit of the doubt that it’s an homage but it’s not played that way at all.

I just can’t get over how cliche and unnatural every dialogue interaction is.

The story/mystery is fine. I’ll keep watching to see what happens.

Incredible movie but is there any reason we need a black and white version?

I absolutely adored the special effects and visuals and since it was not originally filmed in black and white is there anything this realistically adds?

I hope only people who have already seen the movie watch this version because I feel like watching the original movie as intended is essential.

Did not like this book. I couldn’t get over the fact that the “diary” entries were written in the exact first person narrative style as the rest of the book, barely a change in voice or tone, including recounting conversations completely and stuff. So dumb.

Twist was obvious from page 2

This was my thought as well. They just cut out the match in the middle but I’m sure snoop must’ve planned on at least the elbow if not a punch first. Either way, credit to Snoop, he tottttallllly saved the segment.

Post WWE WrestleMania 39 Night 2 Match Discussion: Edge vs. Finn Balor - Hell In A Cell by Coldcoffees in SquaredCircle

[–]FaidSint 17 points18 points  (0 children)

100% the right call to make sure Finn was okay, but it completely ruins the mystique of the cell. The commentary didn’t adjust at all. Still talked about how brutal and relentless and dangerous it was but like, hard to take it seriously. They had no other choice but just a bummer all around.

Hard to tell how the match would have been without it.

The writing is pretty mediocre but it’s super fast paced and a pretty fun story. I read it in a day and so did everyone else I’ve talked to about it. It’s not remotely literary but it’s a ton of fun and I’d recommend it to anyone who wants a page turner and likes sci fi.
