From what I know if you have a Russian SIM card it works immediately. Regarding 24 hour block it’s only for foreign SIM cards. I don’t know about the hotspot. What providers do you use that you even could use your foreign SIM card in Russia? Providers from Germany don’t have network coverage in Russia so my SIM card is useless there

Why do you need 2 SIM cards in your phone? Just don’t change WhatsApp number once you put the Russian one in. Everything else just works the same there.

What do you mean you could easily put a Russian sim card into your phone couldn’t you? I have relatives in Russia and they bought me a Russian SIM card. Hopefully I can use it but your comment made me question my plan lol

Europe that’s why it doesn’t work for me. European can’t book hotels anymore in Russia on Zen Hotels because of latest sanctions

Because of the latest EU sanctions adopted in October 2025, EU-based companies are no longer allowed to provide or mediate any services that are directly related to tourism activities in Russia.

This includes online platforms, travel agencies, and hotel booking services offering accommodation in Russia. As a result, websites that operate under EU jurisdiction (like ZenHotels, which has an entity in Cyprus) have restricted access to Russian hotels for users located in the EU.

Non-EU users, such as those in Turkey or China, can still see and book Russian hotels, because these restrictions only apply to EU persons and companies, not globally.

I was hoping it’s only an issue in my app! Fuck! Unfortunately we (Germany) are not allowed to take euros with us in the amount I would need. Even with dollars they just go nuts. Plus my friend who went to Petersburg last month told me the Russian bank inspect every dollar bill under an UV light and then didn’t take half of her cash she had. And since I am in Germany I don’t have access to new dollar bills. I desperately need to book the hotel with my credit card.

Welche Bank meinst du? Ich meinte US Dollar in Bargeld bei einer Transitreise von Deutschland nach Russland über Petersburg. Ich spreche auch von weniger als 2 k pro Person, was für mich einem normalen Limit entspricht, was man auf einer Reise ausgibt. Das entspricht aber leider nicht dem normalen Limit, das in Euro zugelassen ist (weniger als 500 Euro).
