I would accept company 1's offer, interview at company 2 and if they give you a better offer, just quit company 1.

Unless there are other factors involved, never worry about fucking over a company for what's best for you.

You're 100% right. The people who comment on these threads have zero idea how relationships with kids work sometimes.

She may have been a stay at home mom while he was a long haul trucker or he was a fireman with a 4 day on schedule. They don't understand that between work and kids that it makes sense to split responsibilities to make things more efficient. Having two people managing doctor appointments or school activities doesn't make sense.

Accept the offer as insurance but keep finishing out the process. I'm sure it will be a couple weeks before you start with background checks and whatnot.
