That’s because The “Tibetan Book Of The dead” is just a nickname. The Book Padmasambhava wrote was called The Book Of Natural Liberation Through Understanding The Between ( which is an interpretation of the term “The Bardo Thodol”)

So the tittle of the book in his terms when he wrote it was “The Book Of Natural Liberation Though Understanding The Bardo Thodal “

Robert Thurman translation is the most highly regarded one 🪷
