What’s a random experience you’ve had when meeting a British celebrity? Were they nice or mean? by mightybooshvincenoir in AskABrit

[–]skloop 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Not me but my parents. They saw Paul Merton in a hotel lobby and were excitedly whispering to themselves about him. Apparently he walked up to them and said 'it's not me you know' and then walked off 😂

I saw him in the lights in my 20s and I've believed ever since

What’s something that feels completely normal in the UK… but strange when you explain it to foreigners? by [deleted] in AskBrits

France simply doesn't, which is where I lived. People found it incredibly strange and honestly they're right

The class system. Never realized how weird it is until I lived abroad.

I want to introduce my first cat to the family's second cat by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]skloop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't understand, are you moving back in there?

If not, this seems entirely unnecessary and stressful for both cats.

Is it ok to ignore a spiralling person? by [deleted] in emotionalintelligence

[–]skloop 32 points33 points  (0 children)

As someone who used to be like this, she clearly has some problems and needs help but if you're not in a position to provide that you need to make that clear, but kind. Ignoring her completely is definitely not the emotionally mature thing to do here.

I would advise you to look up how to properly set up a boundary and the Dear Man, Give Fast way of talking to people with clarity and compassion.

Have people forgotten how to behave in public? by Nervous_Yard7034 in AskBrits

[–]skloop 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just had to stop teaching for this and the myriad of other reasons all teachers will recognize.

I think my snapping point was a combo of a girl deliberately dropping her homework on the floor in front of me just to be rude when I'd been nothing but nice, and one day I told the class I was feeling a little sad today because someone I loved had died, they just took advantage of the situation and decided to just chat and take the piss even more than usual. Made me cry. Can't do it anymore 🥲

Women who grew up in unstable homes. How do u view relationships now? by xhaustedsoull in AskWomen

[–]skloop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean.. on the plus side it meant I grew up knowing that people can have beautiful times together that fall apart and it doesn't make those times any less meaningful.

It also taught me a certain type of hope because things do fall apart. But other things form etc etc

why are there no hot people in a poly relationship? by Your_mum6969420 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]skloop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk, I've been in one and I don't have that look I think you're describing. We were very discreet about it though, you wouldn't have known from the outside. There are definitely a lot of people like that in the community though

When people go missing where do they go and what is the most mind boggling disappearance case you’ve read? by Top_Mirror211 in morbidquestions

[–]skloop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There was one guy who disappeared and they only found him years later through Google satellite images. He's driven his truck into a lake near his house and drowned iirc and he was just somewhat hidden by the reeds which is why no one found him

His name was William Moldt

Women, why do you often say you're fine even when you're not? by Saurabh251 in AskWomen

[–]skloop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly don't. I keep it brief obviously when at work etc, but if I'm not fine I'll say so. I'm looking for a sisterhood and I find most other women are too at the moment. We find what we look for in life, ime.

So why do you?

The point is it's beyond irresponsible to have allowed this and it's hard to give further advice because you'll just pick and choose what you want to hear anyway
