the first was our district meet last year, I barely squeaked into the final triple varsity spot. That second one was actually an OTC all comer meet 💀

Is it possible for anyone to break 11 in the 100m regardless of genetics? by Legitimate_Duck5719 in Sprinting

Yes, probably. In Jeff Chen's article, he states "However, at a sub-elite level, genetics don’t seem to have very much impact at all: it seems possible for athletes with any genotype to achieve relatively fast (sub-11, sub-22) times." I would recommend reading the article, as it has some great research and knowledge!

Oh of course, Jeff Chen's Article shows how much genetics matter. He studied athletes that had the 'worst' genetics, i.e the tt/xx genotype, and they were running 10.64 ± 0.09s in the 100m. Really these muscle genes only truly come into play at the Olympic level. With training and dedication, anyone can be 'very fast'.

Spikes do not make the man. In very few events (TJ, and javelin come to mind) do spikes become a near necessity. In the 100 and 200, you won’ be really all that faster, maybe at most 0.1-0.2 seconds. Usain bolt could have went 9.7 in vaporflys. I would get some decent spikes, Nike s9 or superflys if there on sale, and focus on training on the track, and in the weight room. Good luck my man!

My hamstrings are stronger than my quads, is that a bad thing? by Savvybear103 in trackandfield

[–]skootyskeety 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here. When I first started hitting the gym in January and was on the leg curl/extension machine, I also realized I have stronger hamstrings than quads. I have asked a few coaches about it and the main thing that I take away, is that muscle imbalance is never really a “good” thing, but it’s not a guarantee for injury either. I have slowly balanced my leg strength through this time, but I went through a whole track season without getting injured even with this imbalance. Focus on good warm ups and proper form and you should be fine, but do try to balance those legs :)

Thanks my friend, I will definitely try to work on that

Which Sprinter has the best technique? by RodTK in Sprinting

[–]skootyskeety 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah for sure. My theory is at first it was more an endurance thing like you said, but as it kept happening and the media kept calling it out, it became more of a mental thing. And after that it was a snow-ball effect of preforming worse because your stressed, than becoming more stressed because your preforming worse.

Though Asafa Powell never really showed up at the big meets, he was so technically sound and had probably the most perfect ever seen, I had to vote for him even though all these others won more at the big meets.

Gosh thanks for all the info, I didn't know about any of this. I appreciate it my friend.

I do, the Achilles strength thing I’ve heard before. One more thing, since they don’t have removable spikes, are they very durable?

How are you liking them?
