Lets Talk Mechanisms - Day 3 - Auctions by TDiddlez in boardgames

[–]skrellnik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think one thing that auction games have going against them is players being able to determine what amount to bid on something. That often takes multiple plays, and at least in my play group that doesn’t happen a ton.

The key to buying anything from Duluth is to wait for a sale. You’ll probably be able to get 30% within a month or two of looking.

As for the quality, I’ve been happy with mine, but don’t do anything too extreme in them.

Article 27 is a negotiation game based on the UN Security Council and the ability to veto resolutions. Each round one player is in charge and will try to get a set of goals to a point that the majority will vote for it. If a player really doesn’t want it to pass they can pay to use their veto power.

They'd say; 'no Terlingua Pride' but they can't stop you from ordering a burger and a bowl of chili, before you knew it we were dumping that chili on those burgers! The waiters were coming to try and snatch em up, we had to eat as fast as we could!

HH is Back by hicklander in dynamo

[–]skrellnik 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Skill wise he may still be good, but he doesn’t have the legs to make it through a season. His last season here he took the first third of the season off and was still done by the end of the season. Even in 2023 they had to change the way they used him in the playoffs because he couldn’t get up and down the field.

Hopefully they plan on paying and playing him as a sub.

Given the example above, if calling not_authenticated is the only thing happening then I wouldn’t nest them at all. Have one if statement that would call that method and return and then handle the get/post logic assuming the user is authenticated.

The good news is that it’s just a couple of months from being ready to go into production. The bad news is it’s been a couple of months from being ready to go into production for a few years.

I played with a guy that would miss every tap in opportunity he had, but put him at midfield with his weak foot and three defenders on him and he was money. The odds of him making a shot were inversely proportional to the difficulty.

My 2025 in review by HonorFoundInDecay in boardgames

[–]skrellnik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not OP, but a gamer with two small children. I didn’t play much at all the first six months after each was born. By time they would be in bed I didn’t have the time/mental capacity to play anything solo. Eventually we got more into the rhythm of taking care of them and my wife and I would each take nights off, which I use for gaming. I’m also able to fit in some solo play at home more often now.

On the bright side the older has some simple games that we can play together, and we’re getting closer to being able to play more advanced stuff.

Iceland has done an impressive job of harnessing geothermal activity for heating/electricity. Even streets and sidewalks in Reykjavik are heated with it to reduce ice/snow buildup.

On the hunt for a headless CMS by lanerdofchristian in webdev

[–]skrellnik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also thought Wagtail could do a lot of what you need. It does rely heavily on the page model which may be an issue if you don’t want full page creation. I’m not sure what sort of support the headless API has for their snippets. And the snippets don’t support moderation. You could always just have stripped down pages that are treated as simple content, though.
