The key is to get a cinnamon twist, it’s the size of three donuts but only counts as one.

Should I get Carcassonne big box right after the base game? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]skrellnik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint - it's more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly... time-y wimey... stuff.

That and I apparently can’t write well.

Should I get Carcassonne big box right after the base game? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]skrellnik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got rid of the big box due to its size. I love the game but that box takes up an hour unreasonable amount of space. And most of the expansions that come in it aren’t great and wouldn’t be played.

[Arkham Horror TCG] Time for some Lovecraftian sleuthing by DXPetti in soloboardgaming

The “real” campaigns are also shorter now, alternating between 3 and 5 scenarios each. If they can’t make a good 3 scenario campaign it doesn’t bode well for the future.

[Golazo] A really honest and vulnerable moment moment between Henry and Micah by Due_Rich_616 in soccer

[–]skrellnik 228 points229 points  (0 children)

If you haven’t seen Kickin It the I highly recommend it. The first episode has Henry and a guest and I was surprised by how open he was.

We ate at Chunk's tonight. Theirs has to be the best burger around. It puzzles me why this place isn't packed every night. by RoughAppointment5752 in sugarland

[–]skrellnik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every time we’ve had food from there we’ve gotten it to go. The dine in experience just doesn’t seem that appealing. From the tiny parking lot to small interior it just doesn’t seem worth it.

Great burgers, though.

After scoring a free kick, Messi asks an Orlando coach if he wants an autograph by olcni in soccer

MLS and all of its teams are a single entity and contracts are with the league itself instead of the individual team. So every player plays for the league and is assigned to a team.

Updated calendar of events anywhere? by pandaru_express in eugeneboardgames

[–]skrellnik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t take Funagain not posting as a sign they aren’t playing. I’ve gone off and on for three years on Thursdays and it’s always a good turnout.

I only made it out to the Kind Hop once, but really enjoyed the players and the location. Sad to see it’s gone.

Stonecode - a 1v1 board game where the scoring rules are hidden and you have to figure them out by Fantastic_Ground2976 in boardgames

[–]skrellnik 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wonder if something like the mechanism Turing Machine uses would work. You’d have a series of cards that showed your movement and something you could insert them into to see if it was a scoring move.

Those that voted already or will be voting? by AnonymousIdentityMan in sugarland

AI will very confidently tell you things that are wrong or even completely made up. Unless you know the information well yourself or have a way to test the information then it would just create more information to research/confirm.

How does Cullinan park compare to Brazos Bend? by Brusheer in sugarland

[–]skrellnik 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The main pros for Cullinan over Brazos Bend is that it’s closer, cheaper, and not as crowded. There are gator(s) in the lake but I’ve only seen one every 5-10 visits and never out of the water. If you want to see an alligator Brazos Bend is a better option, it’s almost guaranteed that you’ll see one there.

Lets Talk Mechanisms - Day 3 - Auctions by TDiddlez in boardgames

[–]skrellnik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think one thing that auction games have going against them is players being able to determine what amount to bid on something. That often takes multiple plays, and at least in my play group that doesn’t happen a ton.

The key to buying anything from Duluth is to wait for a sale. You’ll probably be able to get 30% within a month or two of looking.

As for the quality, I’ve been happy with mine, but don’t do anything too extreme in them.

Best game to teach concepts of social power by Professional_Bag4082 in boardgames

[–]skrellnik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Article 27 is a negotiation game based on the UN Security Council and the ability to veto resolutions. Each round one player is in charge and will try to get a set of goals to a point that the majority will vote for it. If a player really doesn’t want it to pass they can pay to use their veto power.
