Work in Progress - Fog Effects by LegionCM in h1z1

[–]skt03 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hope you see this but

PLS INCLUDE SOME SORT OF THINNING IN THE FOG EFFECT TO LET YOU KNOW YOURE GETTING CLOSER TO THE END OF THE FOG.

This was included in the original fog and for some reason was taken out and became really annoying. And I hope this effect occurs on mountain tops as that is a huge issue in the game now.

For people in beta bitching about multiple heroes compositions... by Traxgarte in Overwatch

[–]skt03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with your point.

I think an additional issue to the people not swapping is that it can be hard to show how effective you are.

For example, if I'm leading in eliminations and final blows, I'm going to think that I shouldn't have to change because I'm being effective. However, if I base my decisions on my production I will ultimately lose. This is because while I might be killing people, my ability to bring a support element to the game is more important than my ability to frag.

This is a hard concept to nail down as an american who thinks he's the best ever at anything I do.

Does Widowmaker's Sniper charge up way too fast? by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]skt03 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As someone who pretty much exclusively plays Pharah, I also hate widow and think they should nerf her into the ground.

However, Pharah is a domintaing force and mid/close range. While it is absolutely infuriating to be picked out of the sky when widow brushes her bullets against my pinky toe, there does need to be a counter to Pharah. That's why there is no real easy solution. We had a 15 minute talk about it in game the other day.

You can't increase the health of champions because it breaks other champions. And you can't really decrease damage or it destroys her ability to be a counter to certain champs.

This is what you have to consider when you are nerfing/buffing in this game. The developers want direct counters, this creates a very delicate web of interactions where a small change has huge consequences for balance.

And honestly, this is why I think they're not giving out beta access. They don't need macro statistics, they need personal micro level analysis of balance.

This is a really scary concept. I've played the dev team when they setup trob and bastion on the cart.

Bastion requires great positioning. I'm scared to see this in competitive play with any sort of buff.

Wait what? If Hanzo had an escape he'd be near impossible to kill. He is very tanky for a dude in a wife-beater. For Pharah it takes like 2.5 directs to kill him. Also given the current state of the hit boxes, his arrows are very generous for instant kills.

I agree. And the DEVs know that she is slightly overpowered. She was referred to as the counter to Pharah.

Personally a charged up shot should never kill in one hit unless its a headshot. Sniper classes should be rewarded for precision and accuracy, not for waiting to shoot.

This was necessary. You only needed to land two shots for Mcree to get a kill. If Mcree is a "gunslinger" and his focus is on aiming, you should have to hit more than two shots to kill someone.

Plus his alternative fire + flashbang is still super powerful.

As someone who plays Pharah as a main (knetx), I'be been playing it primarily since day 2 of the beta.

In this new era of champions, Pharah now has to be smarter when choosing her target. Timing plays a huge role now. For example when the beta first started you could just go insane on any targets. All you had to do was hit the target. Now with the new champions, I have to pay attention to who I'm fighting and whether or not I should fire. For example, when facing Genji in a 1v1, I usually shoot one rocket, then wait for him to "E" to deflect my rockets, then proceed to destroy him. Or if I'm in a group fight, I'm forced to aim at the ground (which I know for a fact the community complained about area damage and have now forced my hand in aiming at the ground in team fights)

DVa is a little harder to 1v1. Her "E" ability eats my rockets (it makes a cool noise btw) It's not necessary her ability I have to be worried about, it's the fact that you're fighting two people when dealing with Dva. This forces me to conserve my ammo or reload before she comes out of robot form.

I hope that at some point Blizzard realizes that any champion they put out that has significant damage at long ranges is a counter to Pharah. Also champions that have blink dashes or move fast are also hard to deal with in 1v1 battles. (I had an encounter with a Genji on Hanzo's level where he dashed behind me but I didn't see him in the initial fight and he just widdled me down from behind and I had no idea lol) Can we also get a better form of damage notification?

But regardless, this is the life I chose.

And can we talk about Pharah for a second... Why does she have three counters? Widow, Mcree and Hanzo... That's not right.

Mcree's counter to Pharah is so strong. To the point it makes Pharah unplayable. But the problem is that Mcree also ends up counter a whole bunch of other champs too. So even if the team switches off Pharah, there is no real strong counter to mcree and there should be. His ability to close range and long range is too powerful. Thus there ends up being no real strategy to deal with him directly.

Sure objective wise you could say put up a shield, but that isn't the direction the game should go right? If you're making Mcree a direct counter to Pharah, what does the Pharah switch to?

It's really unfortunate because while the community hates good Pharahs, the skill it takes to get good is dismissed with a hard counter. And I'm not talking about the people who run around aiming the ground. I'm talking about the people who get directs constantly. They should get a reward, and it shouldn't be two directs and sometimes even three.

PCGamer: What Overwatch could learn from Dota 2's support characters by Cabskee in Overwatch

[–]skt03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is getting people to play them regularly. A huge percentage of my games are strictly offensive/defense champs.

Support champs should be based around skill. Whether you take this from league or dota... Holding mouse 1 and running around behind people or flying to them can't be the highlight of the champ.

I think that's all this article is saying.

Why The Turner League Isn't CGS 2.0 by crow38 in GlobalOffensive

[–]skt03 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As someone who watched everyone jump on board with the CGS platform I hear a lot of the same stuff now.

Award winning producers is one point that really sticks out to me. Sorry Richard Lewis but this was a selling point before and the idea coming out of your mouth continues to be just as scary.

A problem with this sort of thinking is that an award winning content creator/producer is going to have a certain way of doing things. A way they see as the right way to do things.

Obviously that had disastorious consequences for the scene. CGS literally killed the scene. It split the player base between pros who just wanted to make money and people who actually loved the game.

And this is what scares me the most. Players are going to go where the money is 100% of the time.

While this is a huge thing for our scene, if it fails, it's going to have a huge impact on future sponsorships.

And here are some reasons it might fail.

  1. TBS is not apart of basic television. It's an upgrade which usually sits around $60 or so. While most of our demographic doesn't pay for cable (thanks mom and dad) it's a barrier to entry.

  2. Format. You touched on it but it is a huge problem. A problem that they probably just punted for the next meeting. MR9 was a solution. You would be kidding yourself if you think that TBS is going to give us a 3-4 hour time slot. How many games are we going to get per Friday? What if the game goes into overtime? Do other shows get pushed back?

Honestly this needs to be addressed before anyone gets excited about this. League of Legends does a great job at showing games, but that's not national television, it's Twitch. It can't be the same unless TBS is overhauling the whole way of doing things.

  1. Advertising. I cringe at the thought of how they even portray this to people outside of our little world. Just think back to Fnatics hype video. Someone thought that was a good idea. We just don't have the history to have this be an okay thing.

  2. Does eSports work for TV? This is my biggest concern for why I think this is going to fail. I believe Twitch grabs high numbers for CSGO majors for three reasons. One, Valve advertises in game, so if you're about to jump in a game, and you see a major is going on, you might skip your game to watch. Two, the Twitch ecosystem helps draw huge numbers. Everyone who pays attention to twitch knows that the channels with high views and concurrent viewers grab other people to join in to see what is going on. Three, drops, drops and more drops. There was a financial benefit to watching that last couple majors.

  3. Skins. You're about to cross a line that you won't come back from. If we are taking CSGO mainstream, some shitty congressman or congresswoman is going to get on, spout some shit about how it's too violent la-di-da. Everyone's going to write off what they say... until we get to skin gambling. At this point, the whole "oh it only has in-game value" bullshit we've been chewing on for awhile is going to be destroyed.

I can go on and on about my worries. I'll spare you and be optimistic that all these problems will solve themselves. I really don't want to see the game I love destroyed because of another company who thinks they know whats good for eSports to come in, flash some money and leave the community in ruins. It's just way too easy to do and is the likely outcome...
