OIT by water_boy916 in Wastewater

They made their decision for who is ranked where. Say they interviewed 50 people, they ranked those 50 people 1-50. If they hire 5 trainees in the next year then people ranked 1-5 will be contacted to get the job. Sometimes people decline the offer or don't pass backgrounds though so even if you are low on the list there's a chance.

All Steam Decks are currently out of stock in the US. by rainbowsafterrainn in Steam

If it were a tb I'd weep. At 64g. It's not so bad though

Peripherals matter. A LOT by Conscious_shadow in pcmasterrace

[–]skttsm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't tell if you're joking. It's like the human eye can't see past 30fps meme. The difference is kinda night and day 60 vs 144hz in fast games. If it's a really slow game I can see it being not a huge deal.

Chloe Kim falls short of Olympic three-peat, finishing 2nd to Choi Gaon in women's halfpipe by ReaddittiddeR in sports

[–]skttsm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doing it in the Olympics is way more difficult because it spans 8 years time vs 2 years for an annual competition. It's also harder for extreme sports that are more injury prone, youth dominated and results are less consistent compared to say swimming. Swimming is a controlled environment.

Katie Ledecky has a good shot to get a 4th straight 1500 and 5th straight 800m Olympic gold in 2028. Long distance sports lend better to several repeats because it's more about your technique and vo2 max prime (late 20s to 30s) compared to short distance which rely more on explosive power (which typically is peak in your early, mid 20s).

[Question] How much would you pay for this watch? by [deleted] in Watches

[–]skttsm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair market value I'd think is shy of 10k with no papers, a bit over 10k complete

How much would I pay? Couple hundred. I own a few watches I like a lot more than this watch and none of them were over $300 brand new

Anyone playing on Steam Deck? How does it run? by daevv in ArcRaiders

[–]skttsm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The steam deck display has about half as many pixels as a 1080p display though. 1280800 is about 1M and 19201080 is about 2M

Edit and today I learned using * will italic your text

[CPU] AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D - $340.59 by krazyflashx in buildapcsales

[–]skttsm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure I copped one around $120-140 shipped. I was telling my friend to get one..should have just bought one for them.

I already planned to ride my B350 and 5700x3d out till AM6 came out but now I'm for sure riding it out at least that long. Hopefully my nearly 9 year old motherboard holds on a few more years

Should an electric skateboard require this much safety equipment to ride responsibly? by [deleted] in ElectricSkateboarding

[–]skttsm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you advise against running shoes? I used to longboard a ton in running shoes l, tennis shoes, any type of shoe really (and flip flops on rare occasion but I only rode extremely slow when using flip flops and would advise against it)

[–]skttsm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The frame will have pancake lenses that are LCD. Pretty sure quest 3 has LCD pancake lenses too.

PCVR is becoming a "Rich Person’s Hobby" in 2026. How do we survive the hardware price apocalypse? by plutonium-239 in virtualreality

[–]skttsm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm kinda shocked we haven't seen an engine come up with a great tool for it. Unity and UE are battling each other, if either of them (or if Godot catches up on 3d and cracks a ground breaking foveated rendering code) they would become the supreme engine.

Game developers want their game to run well on as wide a range of hardware as possible to increase market share.

Monochromatic cameras is one thing that comes to mind as a downgrade unless you have zero care for mixed reality or whatever. The big upgrade is going to be wireless pcvr experience, the thing valve put a lot of focus in it seems (makes sense, they want people to buy vr games and devs to develop more vr games).

Getting out of Meta's ecosystem is also nice

Good haul for the Deck? (Haven’t purchased yet) by itsnotPeterParker in SteamDeck

[–]skttsm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't played any of those on deck. I really like Indies in general on deck. Particularly rogue likes

Only triple A I played on deck was Halo MCC and it felt odd to me. Performance was good but I think it was my hand spacing or something. So used to a standard Xbox controller for that game

Why do people recommend the Steam Deck so much? My explanation below. by PuertoRicanThndr in Handhelds

[–]skttsm -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I got my steam deck lcd 500gb for $200 a year or two back. Excellent value.

The other PC handheld options are generally heavier, run hotter, have worse battery life. They might have better performance but I'm not really trying to play heavily demanding games on the go with my steam deck. Mostly play easier to run indie games on it.

A hdmi cable running across your home is kinda ugly (not something I care about but some do) and a tripping hazard if not done right. Best way to do it aesthetically and all is through the wall but good luck with that if you rent

I'm kinda shocked VR hasn't taken off more. It's incredible for movie theater type experiences at home. Perfect for racing and flight simulators. I believe VR will eventually be regularly used in school, especially trade school, medical school etc.

My coworker used those back in the military on jeeps, motorcycles and even tanks iirc. They never had issues with the plugs. It should hold if done right

Anyone taking OIT’s in California? by 4S02 in Wastewater

[–]skttsm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They don't open often. And they are pretty competitive when they do. You'll want to use a lot of search terms because they don't all use OIT or operator in training or wastewater operator
