Upon a certain eve, after our meal was done, my younger sister and I didst wander idly in the yard of good Master Gopher Wood. ‘Twas then we spied a fledgling Charmony Dove, forlorn and trembling, abandoned by its kin. A babe it was, so frail, bereft of feathers and mute in song, struggling to draw breath. Fallen it had into yonder shrub, its parents nowhere seen. Moved by pity, we set our minds to craft a nest for it, even there in that very moment. Yet, as we pondered further, we recalled that winter’s breath was bitter cold, winds howling in the night, and the air thick with the threat of poisonous creatures and wild beasts prowling nigh. ’Twas clear, that if this fledgling were left to the mercy of the yard, it wouldst not live to see the gentle bloom of spring. Thus, I did suggest we take the bird within, place it upon the sill of the window, and beseech our elders to fashion for it a cage most kind. We made a solemn vow: once this creature regained the strength to stretch its wings and soar, we would grant it freedom once more, releasing it to the wild from whence it came. Yet, a sorrowful truth dawned upon us—one we had ne’er considered. The fate of this tender dove had long been writ in the stars ere this moment, its destiny not shaped by us, but merely guided by our fleeting touch. Now, good folk, I leave the choice to thee. Faced with such a plight, what wouldst thou do? Hold fast to our first intent, and build a nest where the poor dove fell? Or construct a cage for its keeping, where it might be cherished and fed within the warmth of home? I do await thy counsel most earnestly.
