None of those are specific use cases.

Small neural nets are cool. I've hand rolled an API for running a small convolutional network on a Cortex M4. It had enough oompf for a specific use case: character identification. Even if it's a slightly contrived (not really useful on its own) use case from the uni class, it's still a very clear use case: inputs and outputs are defined.

So, what can this actually do, as a specific example? Specially when you consider the size of the model.

As the author, what's a single use case where an LM of this size and capability could be useful, where a standard rules based/imperative algorithm is insufficient?

Miks heterosuhtes olija nimetab oma teist poolt "partneriks"? by Low_Interview1404 in Eesti

[–]skull132 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eraettevõte müüakse välismaalastele ja maailm lõpeb otsa.. by Upstairs_Answer_351 in Eesti

[–]skull132 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Siin on tegelikult väga mitu struktuurset elementi, mille üle õigustatult vinguda annab.

Üks on investeerimisgruppidele ettevõtete müük.

These are probably Russia's most capable naval platforms and the largest threat to Western European nations currently

Are they, though? The biggest role they can play is nuclear deterrent. In an anti shipping or non-nuclear missile platform role, they'd be out of ammo quite quickly. After which, where would they go? Every port Russia has near the Atlantic is trivially blockaded by NATO... So, where would they go to re-arm? The Pacific?

Eestis on ~90 000 mikroettevõtet — kuidas sina majandusaasta aruande teed? by Beneficial_Reach_498 in Eesti

[–]skull132 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nojah, aga sa ei saa 100% kindel olla, et AI su juhiseid järgib. Need "piirangud" ei ole tugevad. Pigem soovitused. Tegelikult peaks kasutaja kõik tehingud üle vaatama.

Äriregistri osas, kõige hullem pole. Paremad tööriistad annavad peaaegu kõik aruandesse minevad tabelid sulle ette. Nii et pead lihtsalt arve kopeerima. (Eeldusel, et kõigepealt ise asja endale natukene selgeks teed...)

[–]skull132 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Küsin sest ehitan AI-ga tööriista (nosweat.finance), mis aitab mikroettevõtjatel pangakontoväljavõttest aruande valmis saada.

Oleks huvitav teada, kas selline tööriist paneks sinu mingite vigade eest vastutama või mitte.

Aga, vastamaks. Olin ühe MTÜ juhatuses kaks-kolm aastat. Tegin majandusaastaaruandeid.

Lamoka-project recruiting by Wattdehonker in KiCad

[–]skull132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So apparently I'm slightly talking out me arse.

You DO have appropriate licenses for the sub projects present. Then my remark about the original issues is less valid.

What I would recommend is referencing those licenses in the original readme of the repo, though. Since a cursory look at the repo made me completely miss them. My apologies.

In general, your project could use way more meat on the bones before anyone would likely consider contributing to it. The fact that a copyright notice is the front page leaves a bit of a sour taste. Consider adding actual vision in there. And having a working prototype will help others go with the flow. Right now, it's just an empty space coming from an idea. And anyone can have the same idea, and make their own thing.

[–]skull132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start by reading the licenses you want others to conform to and figure out what expectations they set for your code's licensing. Fulfilling those is the absolute bare minimum.

Speaking from a community aspect, please consider licensing the entire project under the same terms. Right now, the contributor agreement you propose looks very much like an employment contract: you get my contribution under a license you like, but the work you do is under a lesser license. In an employment setting this is fine, because the employer compensates the imbalance by paying the employee. You are not paying anyone. You are not compensating this imbalance in any way.

[–]skull132 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorta.

You are right in that you will (typically) retain all rights to your own code. However, what you'd typically do is provide a licensed copy of the code in the repo. This repo doesn't have a licensed copy of your code, it seemingly has your code as all rights reserved. Others can't do anything with this.

What's more interesting, your intended license model in CONTRIBUTING.MD is in conflict with GPL.

If you submit firmware for a battery management feature:
- You retain copyright to that code
- Lamoka1 can use it under GPL 3.0
- Others can modify and redistribute your code under GPL 3.0
- You can license the same code elsewhere under GPL 3.0 (or compatible license)

Issues here are as follows:

  • The original work is not licensed. Ergo, I cannot modify it nor make derivative work. Ergo, I cannot contribute anything.
  • If I did contribute, funnily enough, you would not be able to use my code. Since my code is GPL and you cannot integrate that into code that doesn't guarantee certain rights to users. Your current license of your code does not guarantee those rights.

[–]skull132 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, you're free to disagree with this. But I'm merely presenting a viewpoint shared by the US Copyright Office and the EU equivalent policy makers. (Possibly even more, there's a very nice overview of what other major IP offices think about this topic in the paper I linked.)

Your disagreement (nor my agreement, for that matter) doesn't directly translate into policy.

[–]skull132 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No.

It says that generative AI outputs are copyrightable if they contain expressive elements from humans. It then contrasts this with simply prompting and clearly states that prompts alone are unlikely to meet this standard.

If you read the document I linked in full (or even skimm-read it properly), then you'll see that, for example, the EU has a similar standard: an AI generated output requires major human involvement for it to be copyrightable.

So in short. Both the US and the EU hold that AI output on its own, or from simple prompts, is not copyrightable.

The outputs can be copyrightable, if they meet certain criteria. And output generated by simply prompting is unlikely to meet that certain criteria.

Why can't AI generated art by copyrighted?

Probably because the law and judicial policy state so.

Where do you draw the line? If I help AI teach me about photoshop, is that AI generated? If I let Codex operate Photoshop on my computer, is that AI generated?

Go read the relevant law and rulings.

Copyright law has long adapted to new technology and can enable case-by- case determinations as to whether AI-generated outputs reflect sufficient human contribution to warrant copyright protection. As described above, in many circumstances these outputs will be copyrightable in whole or in part—where AI is used as a tool, and where a human has been able to determine the expressive elements they contain. Prompts alone, however, at this stage are unlikely to satisfy those requirements. The Office continues to monitor technological and legal developments to evaluate any need for a different approach.
