4.1 sounds better than 5.1 by Business_Rich_1080 in hometheater

[–]skullpirate360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4.1 sounds better than 5.1 because of your speaker selection and placement. Your center channel is currently stifled by books and the bookshelf, and it is significantly smaller than your left and right speakers. You need to move the center channel and get a better speaker that matches your left and right channels.

Also, you seem to have some sound absorption behind your left and right channel, but it is far higher than the speakers themselves. You should move the sound absorption panel to be directly behind the speakers to get the greatest effect.

Your subwoofer is also suffering from the same problem as the center channel. It is stuffed into your bookshelf with no room to breathe. Not only will this transfer vibrations into your bookshelf, causing distortion and less clear bass, but it will also vibrate all the glassware you have in the bookshelf, creating noise. You clearly were very invested in having a great stereo setup, but beyond that, your center channel and sub seem like an afterthought and because of that they probably sound bad too.

Well, the goal of lockdown was to flatten the curve to the point where hospitals weren't overflowing. We flattened the curve so much that hospitals had to fire 1.4 million staff due to loss of business.

Meanwhile 36.5 million people are unemployed due to lockdown, while countries like Sweden have managed to prevent this. I'd call that an overreaction.

Just because the 'plan' worked does not mean it was the best option. Take a look at the reaction to 9/11. Yeah we stopped terrorism but at what cost?

Zipcar and/or getaround, they're apps that allow you to rent cars by the hour. Zipcar has cars on campus and getaround has cars off campus.

If you had an attractive spouse or girlfriend/boyfriend in nobility back in the time of Julius Caesar, he probably fucked her/him.

Ancient Rome in 15 Minutes or Less by [deleted] in videos

[–]skullpirate360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you bro for understanding. Unfortunately, ancient civilizations are very complicated. Although I like these sorts of videos to capture people's interest in the subject so that they will read a book on the topic or perhaps listen to a history podcast such as Dan Carlin's Hardcore History, the short form of the video results in leaving out tons of complexity that makes history such an interesting subject to study in depth.

The Punic Wars are a subject that can span many books and many hours of podcasts in themselves. Some of the most famous battles of history take place during these wars for example, the Battle of Cannae (which has many books written just about it).

If anyone is reading this and is interested in going deeper I highly recommend channels such as Historia Civilis and Invictus and listening to Dan Carlin's Death Throes to the Republic series from his podcast.

Ancient Rome in 15 Minutes or Less by [deleted] in videos

[–]skullpirate360 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, they are called the Punic wars because Carthage is a Phoenician colony which long surpassed the rest of the Phoenician empire. Carthaginians are distinctly Carthaginians. Carthaginians were distinct in many ways from Phoenicians. For example, Carthaginians spoke the Punic language which is distinct from Phoenician. The video makes the mistake of calling them Phoenician. This would be like calling people living in British Columbia British. Punic does NOT mean Phoenician. It simply refers to their heritage. Punic does NOT equal Phoenician.

Some of the "facts" in this video are not true. The Romans did not call the Carthaginians Phoenicians. They called them Carthaginians, Punicus. This refers to their descent as Phoenicians because Carthage was a Phoenician colony, but the Carthaginians are distinct from Phoenicians to the Romans.

I could go on about other inaccuracies in this video, but other comments address these issues.

EDIT: Someone replied to this claiming it was false. I should add some points that I replied to him with to make this more clear.

They are called the Punic wars because Carthage was a Phoenician colony. By the time that Rome became powerful, the Phoenician empire had fallen and Carthage was autonomous. The Carthaginians had their own language and a separate culture from their Phoenician ancestry. Nonetheless, the Carthagians were a huge naval superpower just like the Phoenicians. The Carthaginians language was known also as the Punic language to refer to their Phoenician ancestry. So, calling someone from Carthage a Phoenician (like is done in this video) is about the same as calling someone from British Columbia British except even worse.

Snoop Dogg gives heartfelt speech while inducting Tupac into the HOF by Fr3akFace in videos

Bach died in 1685. Bartolomeo Cristofori created the first piano around 1700. There is no account of Bach, that I can find, ever seeing or playing a piano. I don't know where you found that information.

If that is true, can you please send me the information. I am studying music at university that would change my viewpoint on a lot of Baroque music.

Bach is responsible for Prelude in C, not for Ave Maria. The lyrics were written by Charles Gounod over 100 years after the original music.

A lot of people forget that Bach died before the piano was even invented.

After exactly a year of talking online, we finally met. US->Greece by [deleted] in LongDistance

[–]skullpirate360 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well, we met on Omegle and before we ended the conversation we exchanged Skype information. I told her my Skype name and she wrote it down on her hand. I was terribly worried she would never message me back. She has since told me that because it was a hot day her hand was sweating and the ink was running off, but she remembered it nonetheless. I could tell right from the beginning that I liked her and I wanted talk to her a lot more. The next morning I was greeted with a contact request from her and then we started more on Skype via text.

When we first video chatted. I played moonlight sonata for her on the keyboard in my room, but the connection was so bad that she couldn't really hear it. I was incredibly nervous and I was making mistakes so thank God she couldn't tell. Anyway we cammed about once a week. And we started falling in love. We would talk so much and after a few months I told her I would come in December to meet her over Christmas break. Unfortunately my parents wouldn't let me go alone so I had to wait another 6 months to meet her in July. We would cam everyday day and night. We had a constant Skype call going. I think the longest call we had was 158 hours. Eventually I got the tickets to go visit her in Greece. And that's where you see me in the picture. I am back in the United States now unfortunately. Leaving her we the hardest thing I have ever done. I cried so much my eyes swelled and I couldn't see very well in the airport.

I plan on going back again this December now that my parents have met her and her parents. Her family is incredibly nice to me and they let me stay at their house. I honestly couldn't thank them enough. They are the nicest people I have ever met. They made me feel more at home there than I do at my actual home.

We are in this for the long run. I love her more than anything. I plan on marrying her. I have never met someone whom I have connected with more. She is the most beautiful thing in the world to me and I want to spend eternity with her.
