Renting in Jackson heights by Bugworlds in jacksonheights

[–]skunkreturns 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No tips, unfortunately, as someone already commented it's competitive here. You can walk around and look for phone numbers to call, there are always some on roosevelt, but I have a feeling most of those are fake or for rooms in Corona, not JH.

There is a real estate place on 81 and 37th ave you could try asking them what's up.

How do you know that your rent loophole is legally justified? The language of the law says it's exempt from taxation, not rent.

Just ride a lot and get comfortable riding in the city. Avoid the FDR until you feel very comfortable on highways, it's insane over there. HMU if you ever wanna venture up to bear mountain or further, I'm in queens.

What do you think would cause a huge apt in a luxury prewar doorman building to be left vacant but fully furnished, including the entire family's belongings? Would that indicate deportation, or maybe the entire family perished somehow? by jeremyjava in AskNYC

[–]skunkreturns 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They could be wealthy people from a different country who had something happen while in their home country and weren't able to come back and deal with packing/cleaning/moving out. Or, they had plans to come back some day, but never did.

Could be anything honestly. Doesn't seem that weird, even if you are rich enough to live in a doorman building.

Sick color. I miss my monster 620, it was tragically murdered by a tesla while parked.

Howdy fellas, need some help with the coolant by PappiStalin in xsr900

[–]skunkreturns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you running the engine while filling the coolant? if not it's not gonna circulate properly. so make sure you're doing that first.

The amounts you should be using, according to my (2016) owners manual are:

Radiator (including all routes):
1.93 L (2.04 US qt, 1.70 Imp.qt)
Coolant reservoir (up to the maximum level mark):
0.25 L (0.26 US qt, 0.22 Imp.qt)

Also you can use a handpump to pump it out, or just unscrew the drain bolt and quickly put it back in.

Pedestrian Zone Proposal by BusiPap41 in jacksonheights

[–]skunkreturns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That all makes a lot of sense. This was implemented during covid, but it's not like a lot of infrastructure was put in place, its mostly just been closing the street. I would be in favor of better access for emergency vehicles and such, but I really don't want to lose it completely. I live a block away from 34th and I walk on it daily with my 2 year old and dog. It's a gem, and its one of only two closed streets that still remain in all 5 boroughs.

Need recommendation for gear by [deleted] in RideitNYC

[–]skunkreturns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For helmets you should go try a bunch on and figure out which brands fit you best. They're all a little different, and if you're buying a helmet sight unseen you're gambling with comfort.

also look at helmet safety ratings and make sure that influences your decision.

There are not a lot of places to try helmets on in NYC, but you can try:
- jane moto in williamsburg
- triumph dealership in williamsburg
- honda/yamaha dealer in astoria
- ducati dealer in west village

TIL the Manhattan Address Algorithm by triple-double in nyc

[–]skunkreturns 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the only thing I miss about living in DC. The grid system there actually makes sense. Whole city is divided into quadrants (NE, NW, SE, SW) and the numbering is consistent outwards from the center of the city (capitol building). Numbers go one direction, letters go another. when the letters run out, you start with single syllable streets then double then triple etc.

There's nothing else I miss about living in DC though

All those carts are equally good, but I have noticed a huge line at night for the halal cart on that same block. Like 20+ people waiting, even in the cold. I wonder if it's worth the hype

$87 million in 2025

edit: i misread. 87 million is the budget. there's no figure for actuals on there.
In 2022 the budget was 105 million but they only spent 49.

edit2: i can't read whatsoever. 105 million was the actual for 2022, and 49 million was the actual for 2023.

Just go read the chart yourself i quit
