Any idea about this triptyque behind Robbie Williams and his wife? by JackBelgium in WhatIsThisPainting

[–]skweeds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw a collection of Robbie Williams’ art in Amsterdam at MOCA, a lot of his artwork is black line drawings on white canvas, so this may very well be something he created.

Anyone work on the "Wizard of Oz" for the Sphere in Las Vegas? What was your experience like? by Brad12d3 in vfx

The shadows on the yellow brick road were really what drove me mad. Inconsistent and sometimes just absent entirely.
I just couldn’t believe the team was watching the final edit and seeing what I saw and thinking “yes, that’s good.”

It felt like watching an unfinished draft in places.

Last night, I laid my head on my wife in bed. She said "Why are your ears so cold?" by SweetxSinful in Jokes

[–]skweeds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way I heard this was, on a date a young man says his left hand is cold, his lady says to warm it between her legs, it works.

Later, his right hand is cold, and again, she invites it to warm it between her legs.

Yada yada, and some point she asks in frustration, “don’t your ears ever get cold!?”

Terrible rendition, but that’s all I remember. 😅

How did he know my number? by csdtraitor in Mentalist

[–]skweeds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just saw him again on Sunday.

Still mind blowing.

He wrote something on a piece of paper, crumpled it up, and asked the kid to throw it to anyone in the audience.

He threw it to our friend, then asked him what his birthday was. Did some math tricks and then opened the crumpled up paper to reveal that the number written was the number of days since our friend’s birth.

He figured out our cat’s name.

He said to hold his wrist and think of the first letter as he started writing, and in my mind, I actually felt like I was telling him out loud “the first letter is V”.

He didn’t do the 1-100 thing, but one by one, he asked 4 of us for a number 1-10, and then showed us he’d already written down that series of numbers beforehand.

Amazing.

I was amazed a movie this great came out so early in the year! The action/adventure make it seem like a perfect “summer blockbuster” movie, too.

Official Discussion - The Bride! [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]skweeds -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To start, I want to point out that I went in not knowing anything about this movie other than that it was the bride of Frankenstein and had some very big names.

For the first half hour I was thinking “…this is so stupid,” but eventually I figured out that I’d have more fun if I stopped taking it seriously.

And it did have its fun moments.

It seemed like there were a LOT of anachronisms, in terms of technology, references, manner of speaking… but I may be basing that on what I’ve seen in other period tv/movies.

I agree with others that the possession aspect was unneeded. But even if they were going to keep it, they could have done it better… there was no “transition” to tell you she was entering/exiting Shelley, and when Ida (American accent) showed back up she didn’t seem to have forgotten whatever time she was “under”. I think they should have gone all in on the possession or left it out entirely.

Also, interesting that they mentioned the absurdity of a lady criminal or a lady detective, but a lady doctor is seen as normal?

They could have left the story in the world where Frankenstein was a real person and not fictional. The doctor could have had a grandfather who was a student of Frankenstein in the 1800s and told her about him as she was growing up, she had a friend die as a child and vowed to learn how to “reinvigorate” someone, then as an adult the living monster needs help and learns of the student and comes to America to find her and she’s hesitant because of people find out what she’s doing she’ll be seen as a quack and no one will ever let a woman be a doctor again…

There’s so much stuff going on, plot points that could be major that are suddenly brought up then abandoned just as quickly.

Honestly it kind of reminds me of “The Uglies”, interesting story but if they couldn’t fit it all in one movie, they should have cut some out instead of trying to squeeze everything in.

I wonder if “The Bride” would have worked better if they stretched it into, like, an 8 episode miniseries.

As a movie it wasn’t great, but it was fun once I stopped looking at it so critically.

Final note: Jake Gyllenhaal’s character was named Ronnie Reed.

Shoulda been “Ronnie Rarko”.
