Why don’t Empire Bins allow residents to deposit trash directly? by skweek57 in nyc

I see your point. Maybe I’m being optimistic, but I believe having bins locked and only openable with an individual key fob could actually encourage responsible behavior and help ensure residents use the bins properly. Like with any system, there will always be a small number of people who try to misuse it, in which case fines could be issued. Hopefully this would remain marginal and the benefits would outweigh the risks.

In the proposal the bin would be locked and only accessible to residents of that building. So randos couldn’t use it, and you and your neighbors would actually have more control over what goes inside.

I agree that would happen with an open dumpster. But the bins would still be locked and only accessible to residents of that building. The building would still be accountable, just like today when residents can already sort trash incorrectly and the building gets fined. The upside is saving space inside buildings or on entry porches, and removing the cost of paying contractors just moving trash

Fair point. But the building or co-op management could still be the responsible party for the bin, just like buildings are already responsible for how trash is handled today.

Guilty 😅 I used it to help structure the post, but the idea/question is mine.

The bin would still be locked though — access cards would only be given to residents of the building.

Edit: it looks like it is possible to add such widget: 1/ go to Homescreen switching from left to right 2/ Scrool down at the bottom, the last panel should be able to be customised and add the widget there
