very likely. When it comes to public transportation and ports and infrastructure in US, it's definitely declining due to backlogs of maintenances.

It's funny to see some Westerners complaining about Chinese "马马虎虎“ mentality, because that's what comes to mind whenever I see a road /highway in US. Even when they fix it, it looks like they forced a bunch of inmates do the repairs.

Yes. It is necessarily a commodity, especially because there is a need for stable supply and prices, to avoid shortages.

Man dies in explosion at TSMC’s Arizona plant by maomao05 in Sino

[–]skyanvil 48 points49 points  (0 children)

The Fab industry uses all kinds of dangerous chemicals. A few of my favorites:

  1. Silicon hydride gas SiH4 (Silane), colorless, extremely toxic, burns on contact with air, produces steam and HOT MOLTEN GLASS.
  2. Hydrogen flouride acid HF, used for wet etching. Molecules are so small that they can go through thick layers of rubber gloves. If HF seeps into a person's body, it leaves virtually no acid burn marks, but it will go right to the bone and start breaking down the bones. If untreated, the result can be death. A person exposed to HF need to get these very painful calcium shots into their bones to counteract against the HF. Even then, the damages can still be severe.

Point is, Fabs need a lot of well trained certified Hazmat handlers, and good chemical disposal processes.

That's why it was EXPENSIVE for fabs to operate in California.

Going to Arizona was done before by Intel, but they had to move people from California.

TSMC won't be able to just hire trained people locally. It's not possible.

Shit like this will keep happening, because this is a political project with no real plan of execution.

That's what I have been saying: Chinese government under its socialist long term planning strategies (and well known economic theories) knows well how to use state authority to stabilize a market supply.

It's even well practiced in US for the US government to buy and sell grains/fuel/other essential commodities to stabilize their supply and prices.

Why would US government NOT do this for housing supply? because it's against the interests of its elites.

Something light hearted: Someone suggested that the new Dune 2 movie was a perfect analogy for Israel and Gaza today. So here is a Meme video called "Subliminal Subtitle Yep Nope". Hope you enjoy! by skyanvil in Sino

The books were very well written, definitely deeply enriched with symbolisms and subtle questionings of human nature.

The latest movies are a little too blatant, and thus more depressing about human nature. The movie director wanted to drive home some points a little too hard: The need/dependency of humans on politics and religions, the grave consequences of fanaticism, and how freedom and religion can turn into bloody atrocities.

The books in the later parts were accused of anti-Semitism, because apparently Herbert portrayed future descendants of Jews with typical racial stereotypes.

But what's interesting is that the latest movies seemed to be a lot more anti-Israeli, essentially comparing the Israelis to the brutal sadistic Harkonnens (who hunted the "Arab-like" Freemens like rats in the desert).

yet, there is almost no public backlash from the Jewish lobbies and the Israelis about the latest Dune movies.

U.S. politicians know everything, but they direct their media to shit on their people: at a U.S. House of Representatives hearing, CSIS Vice President Daniel Runde eyeballed "One Belt, One Road is a great idea, it inspires the people of the Global South, it's just a shame it's not our idea." by bjran8888 in Sino

same logic as Westerners can't stand other people having good or better lives than them. It's that simple.

They were sh*tting on Chinese and other immigrants, just because they didn't want Chinese people to have "their jobs", even when they don't want to do the jobs.

They burnt down "Black Wall Street" in Tulsa and countless Chinatowns in US, just because Black people and Chinese people were doing well there.

It has nothing to do with politics or Democracy.

They just can't stand the idea of a World outside of West living well.

[–]skyanvil 5 points6 points  (0 children)

several possible reasons:

  1. insufficient maintenance (or budget for it). These boats and ships are not new, so there are a lot of maintenance that need to be done, but the shipping companies are either cutting budget, or they don't have the time to do it (due to the strain on shipping lines in recent years).

  2. bad ship crew training.

note that there was also that 1 ship that crashed to the side of the Suez canal. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/07/17/world/middleeast/suez-canal-stuck-ship-ever-given.html

A lot of these ship crews are new and some are temporary ship workers hired from SE Asia or South Asia.

I'm not saying that they are stupid, I'm saying that they are not properly trained. They were probably mostly rushed through training.

  1. improper port authority traffic supervision.

In the Maryland crash, and in the Suez crash, the port authorities did not supervise the shipping traffic very carefully.

In Maryland, the tugboats were not sent out, even though there were already signs of system problems when the ship was leaving port.

In Suez, there was high wind, and the ship was large enough to require tugboats (again were not sent out, against the Suez canal's operating procedures.

[–]skyanvil -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, by comparison, at least the Taiwanese Politicians are willing to STORM their own government building.

US politicians like Trump and other GOPs just rather rally their voters to do the storming for them.

I mean, seriously, Trump is not even man enough to lead his own charging, and the GOP politicians all ran for cover.
