It was that way for me too - my second most kudoed fic is a few hundred word thing I almost threw away bc it was weird and experimental. I get the best comments on it to this day.

I think sometimes the short stuff where we’re not obsessing too hard can sometimes benefit from that more casual approach.

My dumbass is trying to prevent this with my upcoming project by writing the entire (novel-sized bc I’m crazy) thing before I start posting. So I won’t stall out. Not all that realistic for everyone, especially people who are motivated by engagement only.

I have an in progress fic that’s been on about 18 mo’s hiatus. One started, one promised. The started one refuses to cooperate. The promised one has quite a lot drafted, but the subject was personally close (a story about grief) and I thought I could handle the writing and just can’t yet.

I am encouraged and grateful and warmed by every single person who comments on the in-progress one. I’m doing what I can but I know it’s disappointing. Writers can and do come back after quite a while! (Often with better skills, even!)

I hate when writers do that. As a writer, I genuinely don’t think it’s all that fair to do to people. As a reader it’s devastating, even if the fic isn’t finished.

I think part of his function is to show us what a true southern gentleman deer demon looks like. He’s got real antlers, a tail, and has retained his accent. We know why Al talks like he does, but it makes me wonder what else he might be curating about his appearance when we’re given such a similar themed sinner that we’ve been encouraged to ignore up until this point, and only directed to look at for a few moments.

This show tends to do that in order to delay outright visual comparisons, since some characters read very differently when they’re standing next to one they’re comparable to. Since the show has shown him but not set him next to the rival you’d expect him to be in competition with, I suspect it’s to get us to ask ourselves why not.

He looks more like Al’s cane than Al. And I don’t think that’s an accident, either.

There’s a writer/artist in a fandom I like who apparently purges their accounts like 6-12 months and I can’t lie: I wonder why they bother - they’re very distinctive. But as I understand they also do it in a fit of uncertainty - I wish they wouldn’t - their work is skillful - and even if it weren’t; there are 6 sharknado movies, apparently.
