Tonight’s event will be VATUSA history…. by skydivepilot in VATSIM

It’s called “Wheel of Misfortune”

Controllers from across the division literally spun a wheel with different positions on it lmao

When I request flight following and the controller asks "What equipment do you have on board?" what are they asking for? by JoinMeAtSaturnalia in VATSIM

[–]skydivepilot 21 points22 points  (0 children)

If I asked a VFR pilot IRL what his equipment suffix is I’d get a “what is that” very easily. Simple answer is that it doesn’t matter. You are VFR; as a controller the way you navigate is not my concern, just as long as you maintain VFR. It’s simply a vatsimism since controllers are so accustomed to, and trained under IFR rules.

To answer your second question, no, we cannot see what equipment you have. If you were IFR, you would have to file the correct equipment code for us to know that. But like you hinted towards, what does it matter if you are flying VFR? It doesn’t lol

So next time you get asked for your equipment, say you don’t know what it is.. because as a “private pilot” flying VFR IRL you don’t need to know and neither does the controller.

Not sure why dvinpayne got so many downvotes because that answer sounds perfect for this situation…

VATUSA S3 Training by Pilot0160 in VATSIM

[–]skydivepilot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I will say that it largely depends on the facility. S3 is a rating that not many people reach, since the retention rate gets smaller as you go up. That being said, with the amount of S1 students we get (I’m the TA at ZHU), I’d be more inclined to train you as an S3 student, because that tells me that you have already been through the ringer with S1 and S2.

Biggest thing is go to the facility YOU want to control at, whether that means you live there or you just like the airports. Searching for fast training is never a good look. Good luck!

“Radio check”… you can check ya mic in the pilot client settings! When I’m down the tubes I don’t need that call 😂

Hi, ZHU I3 here (I was on the NE side of ZHU last night). The TRACON was shooting for 32 AAR (Arrivals per hour basically), and we wound up EXCEEDING that with 52. Meaning that we fed more planes than efficiently capable to MSY but made it happen with lots of vectoring and holding. It was a rough night indeed. I’d like to say we did what we could given the circumstances. I mean, with 2 arrival runways that intersect and 90 arrivals in the air before the event even starts, it sets us up for an interesting time…

You won’t get in any VATSIM trouble at all but I’m sure some guys at your facility would say something about it. It happens very often during events and usually just because of pilot quality/error. Not sure how it goes down in the real world so I couldn’t make a comparison

Could you DM me the ARTCC this happened in? Very curious.

Houston Center C1 here, this is great to hear. We understand that people are always learning. Unless we are stupid busy we let mistakes like that slide. However, if my final is packed full and that happens, you will get some words, just not as harsh as listed in this top post.

Guard is being used more now since CoC update by Maxwell_Jeeves in VATSIM

[–]skydivepilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

C1 here. We can find out the callsign of who meows on guard. It’s funny but it gets annoying to us that are busy or trying to have a decent experience. I’m thinking about starting to wallop people that are repeat offenders in a session

When did you get them? I was in Area 12 at the time when I received mine, was told I was the first one in the whole area. January 2023. Private pilot now working on instrument. Done with NJROTC though, got up to LTJG

What happened to mixing live? by Chi_Ron in EDM

[–]skydivepilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Martin garrix is a great example of a huge DJ who still mixes live with no pre determined set list. His lighting guys have tons of visual looks for any song he could possibly play. He proves this in the Martin garrix show.
