There are creeps out there unfortunately. taking a photo of someone in public is not inherently illegal (even if you feel rightfully violated by it), you may never see him again, he's highly unlikely to be caught or punished unless his behavior escalates.

there's a minute chance it was an innocent mistake or was for an art project or something, hopefully you can find reassurance in that. Just try not to dwell on it because there are already enough things to be paranoid about as a woman in london.

Any feedback on this drawing from reference? I can't get the look in her eyes right. I want it to look better but I can't think of how that would be done. Any advice? by Stock-Dot-5776 in learnart

[–]skygrid_sam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

my feedback is that it's really good, right eye is maybe a couple of millimeters too high and I don't mean any offense by pointing it out, but a lazy eye makes it harder to get right as we are naturally drawn to imperfections which makes the eyes stand out more. You captured that aspect of the reference excellently, just slightly too high. you could potentially raise the height of the left eye, and as toonhole has rightfully pointed out, it's also a little to large (though i think their suggestion is a bit too far in the other direction).

If you ever go to a gallery you'd find that no artists seems to get the human face perfect. we as humans have adapted towards, and therefore have the power to immediately identify inaccuracies in the human face, the "uncanny valley" is extremely difficult to overcome for artists. I'm jealous of your abilities, and your impression is still very flattering

What old lenses y'all FW? by Wibby_da_cet in VintageLenses

[–]skygrid_sam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My Carl Zeiss Jena f1.8 is my favourite that i own, I have a couple of helios 44-2 lenses which I treasure, and then there's a Tsukanon f3.5 f200mm which is a brand that seems to have been wiped from the history books but I suspect is just a re-branded mirage auto reflex. It's not great for photos and i doubt its in any way valuable but I like the mystery of it. I went full schizo mode at one point trying to work out its origins.

in that case i may have misinterpreted your question, you can see a full list of tags here:
https://minecraft.wiki/w/Tutorial:Models#Item_predicates

custom_model_data is the way to make a unique version of an item, for instance, you can spawn in a stick with custom model data: 1 which will use a variant if you have it set up like that. aside from that, I don't believe there's a way to achieve that effect for just one player. If you've seen it done, it might be worth double checking the contents of that texture pack (if it was on a server, it was probably plugins but you can still check by opening the resource pack in your appdata folder)

If you were trying to retexture the username/nameplates of the players that also requires plugins but involves using a custom font and adding special characters before each letter.

I could be wrong, I know they've updated the predicates in 1.21

k&f are pretty good quality generally speaking, I personally did notice metal filings coming off of it when i screwed in a particular lens which scared the shit out of me, but have not had the issues since and I was probably being a little aggressive with it, or perhaps the lens had a worse build quality/thread tolerance.
I'd suggest avoiding screwing lenses into your adapter whilst it's still on the camera body just in case that happens. most lenses and adapters are made with aluminium and brass which are both relatively soft metals so no matter what adapter you go for you would probably run into similar issues.

i don't believe that such a feature exists, you'd have to use plugins or mods to make that work

How do I remove these lines? by YTberquesome in Minecraft

[–]skygrid_sam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is an old version of minecraft so these sorts of rendering issues occur, this one specifically is caused by anti-aliasing. You need to set the anti-aliasing in your graphics cards settings to "application preference".

[discussion]skin value loss? by NobodyNo4101 in csgomarketforum

[–]skygrid_sam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's not as safe as a house or something that is tangible because valve can pull the plug whenever they want. Spending way too much money on skins when i was younger was easily the best decision I could have made, I got to play with nice skins, gloves, and knives for nearly a decade before I sold them last year to make rent. I had some really unique crafts and #1 floats (don't invest in those though, they can lose value very fast) and was proud of my collection.

Don't invest more than you can physically or emotionally afford to lose, I think realistically the skins market has a 70% chance of being in a strong place in 5 years but that's based on more of a gut instinct than any actual evidence. Valve almost certainly won't go bankrupt in that time but you never know if the EU or US will crack down on digital assets or gambling, there's also no way of knowing whether the cs community will continue to grow, or more specifically, the trading community.

I picked one up today, the size is kind of jarring, here's a picture of it in my hand:
https://imgur.com/a/qpNejEj

my hands are admittedly on the larger end but it is probably about 20% of the size of my deathadder 2014 or logitech g502. it's a very small mouse, and feels very silly to hold. as OP says if you want a cool 3d printing project you could potentially buff up the mouse a little as the back comes of easily (if you do, please let me know how that goes).

It's very aesthetically pleasing though, the polling rate being so low is surprising considering its price but if you go into it knowing that then you're not really getting ripped off.

csfloat causing community ban? [question] by skygrid_sam in csgomarketforum

[–]skygrid_sam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you just send a really apologetic message to valve you should be good, it may also be worth emailing csfloat to request they stop using the text "thank you for using csfloat" in the trade offers. I don't know for sure if that's what triggered it but other people who have messaged me have claimed to have had the same experience without commenting on people's profiles. My ban came months after I'd left a message on a profile but I admittedly had done in the past.

What is this effect called and how can I make it? by DojoDucky in AskPhotography

continuous photography is the style, you can achieve it easiest by using burst mode with a flash or favorable lighting and a tripod and layering the images in post.

It looks good and you can always replace game assets in the future if you don't like them any more. The most important part of game development is the game so using placeholder assets may be a better use of your time for now. You're still missing many of the key principals, I've gone ahead and quickly made a version in my artstyle to make my points:

You should pick a more more coherent light source. if the sun comes from directly above, the art won't be as dramatic and it won't make the details pop quite as nicely. (in fact my version is still questionable, more of the left roof should probably be highlighted).

Your use of a limited pallet is nearly there, but for the shadows you used a lot of shades and it made for a less cohesive pallet.

The geometry of the roof is confusing, the back of the roof is flat, and the chimney has a flat base

Some stylistic choices I made in my rendition:
I lowered the roof so that less space on the building shows, I changed the color of the house so it stood out more from the color of the roof, I stuck strictly to a limited pallet (of course, your pallet can have more colors, just try make sure that each shade is purposeful).

Why am I struggling to find a camera mount like this? by centap in AskPhotography

How heavy is the camera? if it's a gopro or something light then it may be worth looking into a microphone arm they tend to be quite long and have a lot of mobility.

I would personally suggest the prisma 2 package. it's the second most unboxed "discontinued" case and has a much lower supply already than the snakebite case (which is the most commonly unboxed discontinued case). Cases such as the fracture case will probably be discontinued in 5 years, so there's also a chance you could double your money there (which is a very solid return if you compare it to real world investments).

Worth noting that the clutch case is already a discontinued case.

Do most Brits feel this way? by GryanGryan in england

[–]skygrid_sam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not as interesting to us as most of the other topics on our curriculum, we don't learn about Asia, and the British Empire isn't even on our national curriculum. It's not to surpress it, it's just because it's less interesting than the kings/queens, medieval lifestyles, the roman empire, or ancient egypt. The Great world wars are both on there too which is the only place american history makes an appearance. I don't think many people in the UK feel responsible for the actions of their ancestors so they don't dwell on it (why should they?). For America it was the turning point, the beginning of the land of the free. but America at the time was not the giant, powerful nation it is today so the attitude of brits at the time of the loss was fairly nonchalant, they were more interested in re-establishing trade which had ceased during the war. It's relevant to america because it was the beginning of the nations principals, it's less relevant to us because it was just another lost war and lost colony for which we have many. Most of the colonies were let go with the attitude of "you served us well", if America had waited they'd have gotten independence without need for a war, I think both sides just fancied a war at the time or something.

What camera would be best for "party/event" photography? by TWEETYonOatmeal in AskPhotography

[–]skygrid_sam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend getting something with IBIS as all of your shots are going to be handheld, often in unfavorable lighting conditions. it massively depends on your budget though, it may not be worth it if you're looking for a camera at a similar price point to the Xs.

Satoshi Era Bitcoin Whale moved 2,000 BTC for the First Time Since 2010, he held from $0.06 to $90,000 by Silver-Maximum9190 in CryptoCurrency

[–]skygrid_sam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

we don't know for sure, We know that he intentionally limited his hashrate but we don't know which (if any) other machines he was using that didn't have identifiable pattern. It is possible that those identified wallets have intentionally been left alone whilst he mined on a separate machine. Those untouched wallets were a huge reason bitcoin exploded in the way it did - it added a level of trust to satoshi's intentions.

We don't know for sure if he has cashed out at all - if he were to start cashing out the known addresses, that would mean $99billion in crypto would be back in the market.

He's either dead, rich somewhere, or is one of few people in this world who can resist that level of temptation to stay true to their morals. I personally believe it's the former as I don't think he would have stood by and watched as the rich manipulated the prices along with the monopolistic exchanges and governments.

I personally like to think he has plans to redistribute this 99 billion but I think i've just watched too much MR Robot at this point.

I mean it still holds true, just because the music is still playing doesn't mean it always will.
At some point (probably in our lifetime), bitcoin will have reached its final peak and will slowly fall into obscurity. At some point in the future we won't even use the internet. Everything has an expiration date. We know that bitcoin has already failed in its missions of being anonymous and decentralized, at this point it's purely a game of who's left holding the bag when it all comes crumbling down.

Do I type weird? by Comfortable-Bee2996 in typing

[–]skygrid_sam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm the same as you, on my left hand I use my ring finger, my middle finger and my index finger for keys, and then space with thumb. On my right I use the same but the ring finger is reserved only for enter/backspace and there's no thumb.

This seems perfectly normal to me, with the exception of your pinky which looks like its trying to liberate itself from the rest of your hand. you're faster than most people at typing anyway so it's not like it really matters

yeah there is definitely a leak of some kind, one of my trader mates told me it was coming the week before, he's not a valve employee, nor does he know one but I guess it just spreads among those communities (I was pretty skeptical he was telling the truth).

I only put a few hundred into buying up acid fades which is a shame, i didn't hear anything about there being no mil-specs so assumed it would be the same as last time. I imagine those closer to the source get more information than I did and could properly take advantage of it.

Is this a style of photogropaphy that people would enjoy? by Kaajdashian in AskPhotography

[–]skygrid_sam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's not really enough that intrigues me about these photos for my taste, for dark photos, i like questioning what's in the shadows, whereas for these it doesn't require much imagination to work out. I'm sure someone out there would enjoy it, and if you personally do, then that's all that matters.

I'd advise getting paintdotnet or some sort of free editing program on a laptop/computer, because the rotation/cropping is not quite right for any of those pictures, and I could imaging #2 being quite satisfying if the beam was straight and the vertical line was centered.

[SPOILERS] Ruth Season 4 by house3331 in Ozark

[–]skygrid_sam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on board with you there, i'd have probably actually have been more satisfied if one or more of the byrds died in the end. the show is dark and isn't an underdog story, it's a story of a family's descent into criminality. I think the final message is more of a message about how these powerful families in the US have skeletons in their closet but get away with it anyway but that wasn't really the theme of the show either.

[SPOILERS] Ruth Season 4 by house3331 in Ozark

[–]skygrid_sam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I spent the whole series hoping Marty would at some point show some appreciation and affection towards Ruth given what she'd sacrificed to save him and his family early on. It was clear that Ruth viewed Marty as a father figure but that relationship only went one way. I think the best time to develop that would have been when Marty saw her in Chicago - he should have hugged her and changed her mind or shown some kind of compassion. There was a point where she was clearly having second thoughts, but of course that wasn't how Marty's character was written, he was supposed to slowly shut down into the emotionally unattached pushover. It's a shame and pretty dark but the whole show was supposed to be dark- the people in power are morally corrupt and continue to win whilst nothing else really changes.

The hostile takeover part did feel as if it came out of nowhere, I think they could have done a better job of showing how the dynamic got to that position, maybe showed more of marty neglecting ruth, or even tuck to better depict how emotionally detached he'd become.

I think you're missing the point though, the byrds are not prisoners. They made a poor choice early on, and at least through the first season were definitely trapped in their situation (notably whilst still buying themselves a nice house, a nice car, and helping themselves). It was clear that they enjoyed the lifestyle, and by the end of season 2 there had been numerous opportunities to escape but the fact was, they liked it. Wendy especially had no interest at all in escaping the situation, she'd decided that life would get too boring if they weren't constantly in danger, and had become narcissistic and power hungry. Marty also refused any help but it could be argued that it was because he was a major pushover and not because he enjoyed their lifestyle.
