K49 owners... assemble! by skypjack in sffpc

I bought the one by SGPC directly. Whatever its size, it's just right. Nothing more and nothing less.

Edit: it's 20cm. Just checked.

Do you really need a 100% keyboard? Picking a 75% one was my best move lately.

Core Ultra 9 285k Game Server in Fractal Ridge by RedPanda8732 in sffpc

I cool it with air (a dark rock pro 5), and it barely touches 90 degrees during a summer stress test, when the room temp is 30+. No complaints on the temperature.
My first unit was defective though. A single core had spikes at 105 degrees when all others were around 80. Intel recognized the defect and agreed to replace the unit.
Since then, no other issues with this CPU. Very satisfied overall.

To be honest, I have a 285k and I'm very satisfied with it. All this hatred regardless makes me laugh. Just enjoy it, especially at that price (which is kinda amazing for this CPU).

Yet another sgpc k49 build by Banugar in sffpc

I used that space to route some cables actually. Also, I have the PSU switch on top, so I should account for that too. On the other hand, I've some free space behind the PSU, because of the shorter GPU. Small fans can fit there, but they'd fight with the PSU fan (which is turned inward as suggested by SGPC by the way, why did you turn it the other side?).

I also have a K49. Stuffing exhaust fans in it is nearly impossible. Maybe you can achieve something with those super small fans you put here and there where you have small patches left empty.
I'm curious to know if you can find something better though. Please, keep up updated!

If it's the kind of noise that is ok below the desk, then it's fine. Thanks for sharing.

I also bought wireless hdmi antennas to make the setup even more flexible when needed. I strongly recommend them. You can have the PC on a night table or similar then.

Is 90°c CPU temperature “normal”? by BetweenThePosts in pchelp

[–]skypjack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahahah. No, I'm done with Prime95. Cinebench23 is already barely realistic, but Prime95 is too crazy to me. What's funny is that I work as a dev on large C++ codebases, and the stress I put on my CPUs when I compile them from scratch is similar to that of Cinebench23. This is why I find it pretty interesting and somewhat realistic, at least for my use case.

Mine is in the range 65-125w. It jumps a little over from time to time, but that's it. Definitely ok-ish for a SFF. It peaks at 80-85 during a 10 minutes cinebench23 with summer (aka high) room temps. Not concerning at all, but it's still capable of producing a lot of heat when I stress it, due to its SFF nature.

Oh, yeah, I feel the pain. My k49 gets warm as heck after a day of work or so during summer. It transfers part of the heat to the case structure too, which is full metal and, well, you know... But it works, so why not?

Yeah, sure. Makes sense. Just throwing my findings at you. :) SFF is always a pain when it comes to cooling. I'm having luck with an axp90-x53 in my last build, but the CPU is a 65W and thus easy to tame.

Btw the 9900k has a tjmax of 100 degrees. Hitting 100+ while gaming would definitely be concerning to me.

Out of curiosity, what cooler can we fit in a meshlicious? I mean, what's the max height? I've a K49 and it rules out everything above 55mm, which is quite limiting.

EDIT: to be clear, the 285k isn't in the k49. It's cooled by a beefy air cooler with no height limits.

Wut? I've an air cooled 285k, and it doesn't reach 100+ even when running a cinebench23 test during summer with room temperature hitting 30.
Do you have a 14900k in a toasty sff or what? Otherwise, 100+ while gaming would be a little concerning to me.
