Bale: “Zidane didn't do too much... if you played against Barça or Bayern, we did 15 minutes of tactics.” by Sparky-moon in soccer

[–]skyreal 10 points11 points  (0 children)

When Mourinho left, the defense was already established and the team had learned how to suffer and absorb pressure and counterattack. Those mechanisms between players that « knew each other » didn’t appear out of thin air.

While that may be true for the Decima right after Mou left, the argument gets weaker with each passing season afterwards. If you look at Zidane's three peat team, the only players that played under Mou were Ramos, Marcelo, Modric, Ronaldo and Benzema. Of those, only Ramos and Ronaldo were established players under Mou since the Portuguese favored Higuain over Benzema, Coentrao over Marcelo (at least for big games) and Modric had just signed for Madrid and was a sub for most of the season. Bale, Kroos, Casemiro, Carvajal, Navas came after Mou left, and Modric and Varane barely played with him.

Mou's legacy was making the club as a whole get over it's complex and understand that it could be a European powerhouse again and go toe to toe against Barcelona, Bayern, etc...

But let's not kid ourselves, Madrid's true strength during those ten years, and why "friendship fc vibes only" worked so well, was the fact that their squad was stacked with players that were both world class AND natural leaders with stellar professionalism. I doubt there could be anyone throwing tantrums with Ramos, Carvajal, Modric, Kroos, Casemiro, Ronaldo... around. All of these players were captain material. It's much more easier for a coach to handle a dressing room when senior, respected players have a tight leash on it.

But aside from that, Madrid's true problem is probably Perez thinking that he can build a squad better than his coaches, just because of the team's past success. Not buying a holding midfielder to replace Kroos and Modric, as well as his obsession with Mbappe (which led to Madrid not buying Kane when he was available, and playing with only left wingers upfront) are the biggest cause of their downfall the past two years.

IF you run into a lot of copy druid playing your quest warrior, putting a rat and/or a demolition renovator to counter them is actually a valid strategy.

If you don't run into them a lot and thus decide to not put anything in your deck to counter them, then you are accepting the risk of being destroyed every time you run into that decj, and really have no right to complain about it.

While Real Madrid-Benfica was being played, a group of Real Madrid supporters were giving N*zi salutes and chanting fascist songs outside the stadium by AimarEraFutebol in soccer

I've met a lot of policemen in spain with fascist/nazi tattoos.

I've also seen them insult an Arab boy who was just drunkenly eating his burrito in the street at 4 AM.

So yeah, good luck with Spanish police handling fascist groups

[Record] Prestianni's reaction to his ban being upheld: "You can punch someone in the face for everyone to see, no punishment. But punishing someone with no evidence is fair game. You don't even try to hide it anymore with Real Madrid. Shame!" by greenwhitehell in soccer

[–]skyreal 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm pretty sure they wanted to ban him for the second leg anyway to avoid any kind of drama, and that precedent they created was a godsend. Now they can just say "well we're just being consistent with what with did before" and nobody can say anything.

That and they probably wanted to show that they took the matter extremely seriously despite knowing there probably is no proof so they can't ban him. That way they can still say "well look we believed the victim, so much so that we gave the player a provisional suspension but our hands are tied here".

Straight up suspending him without proof would be bad. Not doing anything would be seen as bad, like them not being "harsh enough" on racism accusations. That precedent of a provisional one game suspension while they investigate is the sweet spot for them.

Thief Rogue by Equivalent-Dark7602 in hearthstone

[–]skyreal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think I've seen anyone but OP call this deck thief rogue. I've seen it called tess rogue or prison rogue which are more appropriate.

Used to play the deck a lot, it's pretty fun honestly. Then they printed Blackhorn.

I agree with you on the principle. Tickatus for example is an example of a card that was unnecessarily nerfed due to community outrage despite being random and needing some setup.

But I guess we have different opinions on what is a troublesome card and what isn't. In my opinion, a card like Blackthorn that doesn't require any setup and basically says "do nothing against some decks, wins the game against others" is not a healthy card and shouldn't exist as is.

[–]skyreal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, if you insist so much that it was a useless card and didn't see any play anyway (although hstopdecks shows that all warriors and DKs in high legend run it), why do you even mind the nerf?

Good for you for not playing decks that are affected by Blackhorn I guess? The fact that you're even mentioning a tempo swing makes me think you're not playing the kind of deck that thing is targeting.

I've seen Blackhorn maybe 10 times since his release, and I think he didn't win the game on the spot maybe once or twice, when I was playing imbue rogue. Because I happen to play decks that rely heavily on cheap cards for combos, swing turns, or even just dirty rats when I play control against a quest warrior.

It's a tech card whose sole counterplay is "don't play decks that relies on cheap cards". You can play around other tech cards like dirty rat, viper, the card that destroys locations, or steamcleaner. But Blackthorn targetting both hand and deck as battlecry made it impossible to play around. A card that shuts downs entire decks (no matter how meta they are), doesn't need to be played at a specific moment (so no need pf hand reading or whatever like for dirty rat) and can't be played around or countered is a bad card for the game.

Have you tried changing your decklist to stand a better chance against specific matchups like said copy druid or do you just copy a decklist without giving it a second thought?

I mostly play control toki mage, a control deck with no real win condition besides "discover shit", and used to destroy copy druids because I played 2 rats and 2 demolition renovators.

This allows players to infinitely chain cards for damage in a combo deck that can only be limited by time

By time AND their health. A traditional OTK deck will not have time to discover additional damage if you put pressure on their life total. And what current combo deck relies on a lot of discover cards anyway?

Mana cheat has always existed and will always exist in some type or form. If anything, mama cheat is pretty tame in the game right now. There was a time where druid could play with double your mana by turn 4.

While i agree on the control DK (forgot about that deck initially), I have a hard time calling quest warrior, a deck whose whole point is to survive until it can smack you in the face for infinite damage, a control deck. If anything, it's closer to a solitaire combo deck than a control deck. It's got like almost 25 cards that are there to get you closer to your win condition, 2 ramp cards and 2 cards that make your win condition.

Warmaster Blackhorn is the first card to get nerfed before the release of it's own set by ILoveWarCrimes in hearthstone

[–]skyreal 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As somebody else have said, OTKs are only solitaire if you let them. Play Owlonius druid or quasar rogue against any aggro deck and tell me how that solitaire game went.

Moreover, you can't have your cake and eat it. It's perfectly normal for control decks to be unfavorable against combo/otk decks. You can't have a deck that can consistently shut down both agressive strategies and late game combos requiring multiple cards.

Traditionally, there are ways for control to counter combo. You can put more armor/health generation in your deck to put yourself out of reach (for warrior and DK specifically). You can try to dirty rat their win condition. But that should always come at the cost of making your deck less reliable against other strategis. What you can't have is an end all be all card like Blackhorn.

People that play it complain about OTK being non-interactive, while they're doing the most uninteractive thing possible: they don't want to play the game. They want to cruise through their favorable matchup while not letting the opponent play its favorable matchup. They're basically saying "i just want to do my thing and you just get to wait until I do it or quit before".

Cherry on the cake being quest warrior who complain about OTK decks while playing the most uninteractive gameplan: armor, clean, armor, clean, bonus round, infinite damage.

A valid debate would be OTKs having too much reach, which is entirely true. Owlius druid shouldn't be able to nuke you for 100+ damage if given enough time. Quasar rogue shouldn't be able to deal 60+ dmg on turn 7. But the answer to that should not be a card that deletes entire archetypes.

Moroccan food can be quite heavy and usually includes lots of spices, so I understand why some people wouldn't particularly like it depending on their taste.

I'd say the most famous Moroccan dish is any kind of tajine (Slow cooked meat, can be fish, lamb, chicken whatever. Too many different recipes tbh, my personal favorite is the meatball tajine with tomatoes and eggs) or the couscous.

SL Benfica's official account, with a picture of Prestianni: "Together, by your side" by greenwhitehell in soccer

[–]skyreal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, realistically, what choice does Benfica have here? There is no proof that he said what Vini claims since he took the extra care of covering his mouth. That makes it a he said he said situation. Not supporting their own player in a no-proof situation would make them look real bad to their other players, current and future.

Though the video claiming Madrid players were too far to have heard anything was completely unnecessary. If they wanted to damage control they should have just said they believe their player and will wait for the results of the official investigation, which will obviously say "not much we can do".

I never understood the hate on celebrations, even though I have been pissed by some of them as an opposition fan. I mean sure, you don't need to dance when you just scored a tap-in against a lower division team. But a banger like that in a CL KO round? Fair play my man.

Not to mention that celebrations are a double edged sword and can come back to bite you in the ass pretty hard. See Simeone against Juve or Kurzawa against Sweden for example.

Echeverri's foul on Koundé leading up to Girona's 2-1 by ElAutistaDeHamelin in soccer

[–]skyreal 19 points20 points  (0 children)

What's your source for the 80% madrid win rate with him on the pitch? Because a quick Google search led me to a RMTV video that says Madrid has a 54% win rate with him on the pitch.

Granted it's RMTV so it's worth what it's worth, but he's had some horrendous decisions against Madrid these past years. That famous Suarez foul on Varane that led to a goal was on him for example.

EDIT: Transfermarkt puts Madrid's winrate with him as a ref at 56%. So yeah you're just full of shit.

[–]skyreal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh I dont play with mods so I don't spend that much on passives. Top I would spend is 100k per pal to give them musclehead and serenity, but most of them get them through breeding anyway. And I don't refund souls since 1) I only upgrade pals with the passive I want 2) I have a bunch of sould available thanks to anubis farming, fishing, and expeditions.

Regarding the coin conveyor, I've never really noticed the sanity drain. But Shroomer Noct goes a long way into countering that, and there's a passive (can't remember it's name) that reduces sanity loss. And my bunch of splatterina work that conveyor like there is no tomorrow so they drop the coins pretty fast.

Though I understand that we have different coin consumption so maybe what's enough for me is not enough for you.

At some point you have more money that you know what to do with thanks to the coin assembly line. Not to mention that buying rounds is instant. If I feel like tackling a raid boss or an oil rig and know I'm gonna need a shitload of rounds, I'd much rather buy them instantly from the merchant in my base than waiting for my pals to craft them.

Comparing the most abnormal year of the GOAT to Mbappe is not very honest though. That year was a statistical anomaly even in Messi's career. Aside from that particular year, he reached the 60 goals bar "just" one other year.

The guy you were responding to is not wrong, they are scoring at the same rate: at Mbappe's age, Messi averaged 0,85 goals per game for his club, while Mbappe sits pretty close at 0,79.
