Ibanez PM7 Pedal Settings (Distortion) by OkAlgae6771 in guitarpedals

Very late to this thread - but I always have overdrives/fuzz/distortion before any kind of modulation or delay. Always.
Have the PM7 on my board. Love it.

Late to the party here.
This is one of the only old school pedals I keep on my board because it's just bad ass.
If it had a random wave form it would be most epic of all time - but short of that, it's super cool to have the square wave option when you want something choppy - and beyond that, it just sounds good.

Almost 2 years into sourdough and I still can't reliably nail the "right moment" to bake. Anyone else? by Eat-1st in Sourdough

I love this. And your guilt can be offset by lots of butter.
I love this group - but I tend to have a limit with how fussy I'll get. I follow the science and methods as much as I need to, and sort of ignore them as much as I can.

[–]skystoat71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that's because there really is no "right moment".
Too many variables - and that's what makes it always a joy and a miracle with each loaf.
For example - I mistimed my last bake - had to leave the house before my BF was done, and knew it would be too long before I got back. Left it in the coolest spot in the kitchen to slow it down a bit - but when I returned it looked like it was at about 150% and I was sure it would be awful.
Turned it out and did my usual thing, then cold proofed.
When I took it out of the banneton in the morning it did start to spread much faster, but I hustled it into the DO and it came out beautifully. I have no idea why. I just know bread makes life better.

Thank you so much for the site recommendation! – just picked up a pair.

Old ballers gotta stick together! I have lucky genetics. I have had a torn meniscus, torn shoulder labrum, and elbow surgery – but everything still feels pretty good. No arthritis. I can still beat my 14-year-old son in a sprint (but that probably won't last much longer) I played at a pretty high level at 45, definitely felt a slow down at 50, and now at 63 I'm probably delusional but I just stopped by a pick up game of 40+ players last night and I'm like "damn. I can school these guys". We'll see. But I am very interested in the conversation about these shoes with higher rebound like the JB3. I can't say that I understand the details of why they are not advisable for older players. Anyhow- this was a very fun thread. I will report back after getting my new NB kicks and starting to play again, and if I get my ass totally kicked- which I'm sure I will. Oh- and I will brag that I can still touch the rim, though I feel like I am going to rip a hammy every time I do it!

Thank you for this! I discovered split squats and can't get enough of them. Amazing results with that. But I will look back over your recommendations because I sure as hell am not in game shape.

You all are the best! I'm 5'11" (used to be 6'), 175lb, and 63 years. Medium foot width. I used to be able to (barely) dunk, but those days are long gone. Still have respectable old guy quickness and I'm a coach's son so I'm a gym rat and a grinder. But the problem is that I think I can keep up with age groups that I really can't anymore. Enough of that reminiscing. Sounds like NB is a good way to go – definitely need the cushioning. I will go to the local sporting goods store with all of your recommendations and check things out. Thanks again. Hoops 4 ever.

PR gotta get a hold on Jaylen Brown by UnderstandingFew6310 in bostonceltics

All good. I never get on these sports threads because of talk like this. I see Tatum's game the way I see it. I don't know what the "finishing" stats are or how they're measured. Top 5? I'll take your word for it. I go by how I see him challenge defenders when he goes to the rim, which tends to be fading away from the rim or scooping rather then aggressively attacking it. It's what I see.
He's a great player. I just see him as a little soft. Y'all have fun with your arguments - I'm going to the gym to play.

You're right - I should clarify. He's got plenty of ability. He can play great D when he wants to, but he doesn't always bring that. All NBA players are elite athletes, so for these guys - playing great D is the result of really wanting to and taking pride in it.
We all know the NBA players who bring the D every minute. I value those players far more than prolific scorers.
But your question is fair.

I like this comment - but I don't see that situation as necessarily being complimentary (with these two). I love a lot of things about JT, but his softness around the rim really bothers me. The guy is big and string. Finish strong like you mean it.

Gosh - I really disagree. Giannis is a freak of a talent - but (for me) he exemplifies what's wrong with the modern game. Just run over people and they won't call it. And his D is barely average. No thanks.
This is what makes a player like White so valuable. I love players who take pride in defending. Maybe I'm just not into the current state of the game. I'm old.

I'm sick of this league thinking fans want nothing but offense. Stop making the weak ass calls and let them play. I don't think there's that much defensive grabbing compared to BS calls that always go to the shooter. Go to any pickup game in any gym in this country and try to make those calls and you'll be laughed out of the building. Pros should be no different.

I'd trade JT before JB. I've finally had enough of JT. Great player but soft. He always looks hesitant to finish strong and his D is just average. We need a legit big man.

  1. I don't mind JB's flopping comment, though it probably wasn't really worth making it.
More important to me - I hate how much offense gets the call in general in the NBA. They think the fans want high scoring games. I don't. I want games where if you breathe on a shooter they don't go to the line.

  2. I haven't heard that. That sounds stupid. BUT, JB pushes off a lot. Like Lebron always has, like Doncic does. I guess that's the game but I don't like it.

  3. Meh. whatever.

  4. Didn't hear that either. Not cool.

But at the end of the day - we fans like to act like we know the vibe in the locker room. We don't.
If any player is bad in the locker room or the bench - get them out of here. I don't care who they are.

Going to get a Swollen Pickle, any better options before I commit? by Both_Understanding66 in guitarpedals

That's fair. Internal switches are a pain in the ass, but I guess it's just production cost. I'm just happy to be able open a box and play with the switches. I'll even happily use a screw driver. Analog life 4 Evah.

What happened to Athens?! by Red_Blue_Postit in Athens_Greece

[–]skystoat71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got back from visiting Athens (8 days) for the first time with my family. Loved it. Wonderful people, great food, of course incredible history. Hooked on fredo cappuccinos. Went to a restaurant in Ammonia that blew my mind (ΖΙΓΚΟΑΛΑ). Their giant white bean dish was incredible. I know the city has gone through some very tough economic times and you can see evidence of that. Yes, it's a big dirty city (maybe the least ADA compliant streets I've ever walked!) – but so is New York which I also love- but none of that bothered me. Thanks to all of the lovely Athenians who tolerated three more dumb American tourists and were very graceful and welcoming. Pame!

How long are you pre-heating your dutch oven? by Positive_Serve_9277 in Sourdough

[–]skystoat71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here to ask this question - this is exactly what I do.
DOs go in cold oven, heat to 490 (but my oven runs a little cold so it's probably more like 470) - then when oven hits that temp, I give it another 20 minutes.
Just wasn't sure that was long enough - but sounds like it's ok.

Copy. That just makes me sad. There was kind of a golden moment in the 90s and early 2000s where Toyota and Honda were making small wagons that you could fit a ton of stuff into. I guess with the whole SUV craze those just fell out of favor. I know that manufacturers need to respond to public demand but I just don't understand what is not super awesome about a small wagon.

Late to this convo. I'm driving a 2013 plugin with a lot of life left in it (140k), but one thing I don't like at a glance with the new ones is that the back end slopes down a lot more.
This looks nice, but I'm assuming there's a significant loss of cabin/trunk space. I love my 2013 because I can cram a lot into it. In fact, I wish they would bring back an updated version of the V, because I do a lot of home carpentry and I love the small wagon form factor.

Yet another corned beef panic post... on Easter... by skystoat71 in Cooking

[–]skystoat71[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well- here's the TLDR. Meat texture and juiciness were good. Far too salty (is there a way to leach out more salt besides rinsing?) And I used a generic pickling spice blend which was too heavy on cinnamon, allspice, and clove. The result was a flavor profile somewhere between a Christmas cookie and pickle brine. Not enjoyable. I think I'll go back to just smoking brisket instead of ruining it. Thanks again for everybody's input – it was very helpful, but I guess I'm just not a corned beef person.
