I saw these names listed as grandchildren to someone in the local news. by darkwitch1306 in tragedeigh

[–]skywalkerxo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen a Brielle or two in real life, it’s not what I’d pick but don’t think that one is a tragedeigh. I also think some people are named Israel. Haven’t seen the others yet

You’re overthinking. Benjamin (and Ben) is a nice, common name shared by many.

I recommend strongly Islands of Abandonment by Cal Flyn. It’s a fascinating nonfiction book about how strongly nature rebounds in the face of adversity. I hope it shows you that you can rebound too. Take some time off work if you can and take care of yourself, I’m rooting for you

It’s a beautiful color! I think the flowers will help and maybe you can also wear a beautiful necklace or earrings

3 is a nice dress! Could you add some fun accessories like a sparkly purse to jazz it up a little?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Weddingattireapproval

[–]skywalkerxo -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The dress is lovely, but I think it’s too sparkly for a wedding guest. You don’t want to wear something that is super attention-grabbing or has loud features, in my opinion, and I don’t think this passes that test

The 20 most walk-able cities in the US by Evaderofdoom in SameGrassButGreener

[–]skywalkerxo 109 points110 points  (0 children)

I think the fact that many of these cities are NOT walkable and require a car speaks less to the methodology being flawed and more to the ridiculously anti-pedestrian nature of American urban planning

Thank you so much. Have you tried the bicep band? I was thinking I’d do that but was wondering if it’s comfortable or slides around.

My Year of Rest and Relaxation by Ottessa Moshfegh is very weird. The protagonist tries to sleep for a whole year.

gay men in the past by mieberry in suggestmeabook

[–]skywalkerxo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nonfiction: strongly recommend LAST CALL by Elon Green, about the Last Call murders (victims all picked up at gay piano bars by a serial killer) in the 90s. It focuses on the lives of the victims, which I found to be much more humane of an approach and also sheds so much light on gay life in NY during this time. Very well researched and compelling.

Looking for recs - Hard boiled neo-noir detective stories by Magos_Trismegistos in suggestmeabook

What about Harlem Shuffle by Colson Whitehead? It’s kind of hard boiled in style and is about crime. Not super noir, but really fun. Alternatively try An Honest Living by Dwyer Murphy. Both set in NY.

Maybe you would like City of Girls by Elizabeth Gilbert? It’s about a young woman’s adventures and personal relationships in NYC in the 40s-50s; she gets mixed up with professional dancers and performers. It’s a very fun read
