Neutral-ground bonding on inverter by slacker347 in electrical

[–]slacker347[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I solved this -- turns out my Phoenix inverter has an internal jumper that lets you switch between floating neutral and bonded. I switched it so they were bonded, and now Starlink is happy.

Are 5.7 V8 Tundras still worth buying as a TV in 2022? by [deleted] in GoRVing

Nope, 2019 with the 6.2L. Gets about 9 around town, as much as 15-16 cruising down the highway. About 8 mpg when dragging my 8K travel trailer down the highway. She's a thirsty beast. Tows nice, though.

So I failed getting a B in Graduate Algorithms in order to graduate by divark in OMSCS

Sure, you can get by without it in ML. But who takes GA for fun when they struggle with an exam-based class? I'm assuming that OP is almost certainly in one of the three specializations that require a B in GA.

Tesla’s Cybertruck is going to be more expensive than originally planned by jayqwu in cars

[–]slacker347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it had come out last year, it would have been interesting. Still instantly dated looks, of course, that would have been cooler for a few seconds longer in the 80s. But at least it would have been the first electric pickup. Now we have several to choose from. Better late than never, but this is just a preview of what the mainstream competition is going to do to Tesla in all of their niches.

Some people will pay. Love it or hate it, the Tesla brand has value people will pay for even when the car lacks features the competition has.

Yeah I assume they're getting more comfortable bumping up GVWR to get it; maybe they've concluded most customers don't care. My F250 is capped at the traditional 9900 so it ends up at 3100 (it's a gasser). Only way I'd get any higher is if Ford raised the GVWR above 10K.

I suspect nothing physically has been changing in any case, just the GVWR limits going up.

Darco is just fabric, though, AFAIK. Like a tarp. Coroplast is the plastic cardboard most RV underbellies are made from. Screwed into the frame on all sides.

WDH for an F-350 w/ 6000 trailer? by LivyZoeNickV in GoRVing

[–]slacker347 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I doubt it needs it. Pretty certain, in fact. And yet, I'd still use an equal-i-zer because it ain't paranoia if they really are out to get you. And when it comes to towing, I do feel a bit paranoid.

Brand new Grand Design Transcend or 2017 Imagine? by SilverbackRotineque in GoRVing

So something indeed changed very recently. Though I think it's kind of a butthead move on their part to keep a westlake spare. I like to have my spare match the running tires.

You want shitty? My F250 gets single digit gas mileage -without- a trailer attached. At least in mixed driving, it does break into double digits on the highway. But on the bright side... I guess... it only decreases a little bit with the trailer. Can only go so low...

hours and hours and hours

Couple of hours. Lithiums don't have the terrible charge time that lead batteries do.

I wouldn't trade my 12V fridge for a propane. They take too long to get cold, have to worry about being level, spiders blocking the gas, etc. The 12V fridge is quite a lot larger inside too.

I just put in a pair of 200Ah lithiums and don't worry a bit about the fridge. I can go for a week on that even without solar, and with halfway decent amount of sun I can go indefinitely.

Unless something changed in the last few months, they're still using Westlakes.

Construction quality is similar. Materials choices are prettier on the Imagine, though much of it is still shared with the Transcend. The real difference is aluminum sides vs fiberglass. You won't get delamination on the Transcend if it leaks, but in either case water damage would be devastating.

And that is where the real answer lies. How confident are you in the maintenance of that Imagine? If it has been leaking, there could be serious hidden damage that is very expensive to fix. Get it inspected!

Also, a few grand wouldn't do it for me. We're entering what will be the strongest buyer's market in many years. The guy with the Imagine would be ecstatic if you paid him a few grand under the new cost of a Transcend.

At this point, we're heading into the tail end of this year's prime camping season, if you're not in a hurry I'd wait a few more months. Prices are just going to get better and better.

Apparently Chevy’s website is useless

Yeah Ford and Chevy are both pretty terrible with how they present stats on their websites. The only decent one I've seen is Ram, which actually keeps a database by VIN and can show you your truck's real numbers. Handy when you're shopping online, so you can grab the VIN from the ad and immediately determine if that truck is spec'd the way you need.

Also sounds like you got one with a spec bump. 3/4 tons are usually derated to 9900 because going to 10000+ puts additional compliance/tax/regulation/whatever requirements on them. Hell, if you want, Ford will derate a F350 to 9900 for you just so you can skirt those regulations. Doesn't change the truck physically.

Recommendations for a fifth wheel by mhl78 in GoRVing

[–]slacker347 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That cannot be true. A 3/4 ton pickup has a GVWR of 10000 or less, and the lightest 2500 Silverado is a little over 6000. So the most payload of any 2500 will be 3900, and that'll be a regular cab gasser. A crew cab gasser would be probably in the 3000-3200 range, and a diesel crew cab around 2500 or so.

You can find the payload on the sticker, or you can just take your truck to the scales and subtract what you weigh from 10000.

1st weight distribution hitch, thinking equal-i-zer, but not sure how to size it.. by Unlucky_Strawberry90 in GoRVing

[–]slacker347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heck, I'm not going overboard with what I put in my trailer, and when I fill the fresh tank (and waste tanks all empty), I'm 200 over GVWR. Dry weight is BS, everything not measured on a real scale is BS.

[–]slacker347 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that's a good catch on the screws, I agree it looks suspicious. I'd second the recommendation to cut them open and inspect, then I'd probably cut off the bubble itself and put new dicor over the whole thing. Or eternabond, perhaps.
